There is no way I am going to carry....

For our honeymoon trip, I bought DH and I heavy ponchos at Disk's sporting goods store (around $8 each). We didn't use them once and I stopped carrying them around after the second or third day. Last trip I brought a few of the clear ones from Wal-Mart. We used them the night we saw Fantasmic. It rained lightly for a little while, and we (and our seats) were dry for the rest of the show. I will buy the clear Wal-Mart ones for future trips as they are cheap and I won't mind throwing them away. ::MinnieMo

I had read a thread a while back that said Disney World had switched to clear ponchos because it makes it easier for people to keep track of the people in their party.

My brothers work at a concert venue and snagged two of the cheap ones the parkers don when the skies open up. We pack them and hope it doesn't rain.

Ducking into a store or restaurant is fine for a short shower but when we were there in June, 2002 there was torrential rains. It rained every day we were there and most days it rained so hard visability was low due to the downpours. Without ponchos we would have wasted our whole trip. We put ponchos on and just kept on going. A few times the rains were so hard we did have to hold up and take cover. Never know what your gonna run into weather wise.

Just wanted to share our experience with ponchos last week.

Last Tuesday (March 16) was the first day we were spending at MK with DS7 and DD4. It rained. And rained. And rained some more. We were there for the opening, with our flimsy orange Coleman ponchos at the ready, and headed straight to Dumbo, just as we'd planned. Just closed due to lightning. I don't care to get struck by lightning, so OK by me. Meanwhile, it's pouring, so we head to the next (indoor) ride on our list. Nobody's in line--we end up riding it three times in a row with no wait longer than a minute. Go to our next ride on the list--and ride twice with 2-minute waits. All the time we're thinking, "this is great, but where *is* everybody?"

Once the lightning passes (but not the rain) and Dumbo reopens, we manage to ride once with a short wait before the line gets unmanageable. Meanwhile we've picked up Fastpasses for Philharmagic, so no wait there, either.

All this to say that I'm *so* glad we didn't duck into a store. Our ponchos (and our willingness to get a little wet) allowed us to do so much more, with so much less waiting, than we could have if we'd tried to wait it out with the crowds.

Just my experience--hope it helps--

Mary

Wow, Tarabl, I appreciate your honest account of your June '02 experience., but sure am dreading such weather. I will really have to get my DS17 prepared. I told him (when I showed the poncho to him that "it rains in June" and his reply, "I'm not going if it rains") I really have to sit him down and give him the poop scoop and prepare him.
Sngmama, I don't think I will be able to get a poncho big enuf for my husband. He would not mind at all (wearing ponchos), but getting one to fit over his big head , let alone his stomach. Okay, no more bad talk about DH..............
Thanks again for the brutal truth of weather. yuck.
When is the PERFECT month to visit Florida anyway? I would love to save mula and visit in 2006 .:earsgirl:  :chat:

Look in the camping/fishing section of the store.
YEP!! And if your WalMart doesn't have them, your local sporting goods store will....Sports Authority carries them in the camping section for 99 cents!!

We are about to embark on our fifth trip to our favorite place on the planet. Our first trip, the one that caused the addiction, was the week of July fourth and we had a little shower every day. The pocho's were a life saver and we didn't let the rain stop us at all. Actually the rains usually cooled us down a great bit and was usually followed by a cloudy day the rest of the day. Rain dispersed the crowds greatly and we took full advantage. The next three trips were the last week of may into the first week of June and we have hardly even seen rain at those times..

I wish I was a man and did not have to carry anything.

What you need is a wife to carry all of your stuff. I got me one and I'm amazed at all of the stuff she packs around and has on hand when I find out I need something. She's almost as good as mom, and she doesn't use her saliva on a napkin to wipe off the dried on food or the dirt you get from crawling around in the bushes.

Just be warned that her clothes probably don't have pockets, so if you go out and she doesn't have her bag, she probably won't have any money. :cool2:

wearing a flame-retarded poncho.

What with everyone's great tips and stories of much needed ponchos..........I gave in and found !!! thin ponchos at the Dollar store (package of 2 for $1). I have a total of 12 now and will feel free to toss when the day is over.
Question..................Anyone have an idea if it rains in April.???
Co-worker (downstairs) - his mom and younger sister are going next week.
I was showing him my planning binder (with seperators and all!) and he cracked up !!! when I showed him that I have the listing of the local radio stations !!!!

Thanks!!!!

We have the Dollar Stores ones. So far, I have bought 10 and plan on getting a few more. I dont want to have to mess with folding them back up and putting them back in the pack. I will just throw them away, and hopefully have A few left for the next trip. Our first year we bought the big ones from the parks. When we took them back the next year, we could not get them small enough to fit in my small backpack. Now they are just memories in the closet!

This was very informative - I will be getting some ponchos too!!

Just a little FYI - while DH and I were on our honeymoon in September 1998 it POURED all day every day. We have a picture of us in MK standing under the Tomorrowland Transit Authority near space mountain and it looks like a clear sheet folded over the track - but it is RAIN!!

Thanks
Lisa

On our June trip in 2002 we went with my DW's parents, had a blast. We are all going again in July with our boys for the first time. (grandparents are the best sitters), However when we went it didn't just rain in the afternoon like normal. It was monsoon season. At first I refused to by the "yellow ponchos", you get wet on rides all the time anyhow. Finally after days of getting drenched I broke down. Was glad I did.
Normally it doesn't rain enough to warrent one (a poncho). It only rains for like a half hour a day. If we are in a park we will get on a ride or go in a shop. You can always see the clouds rollin' in.
The funniest thing I think I have seen at WDW was at epcot that same year. Several characters were on a small bus like vehicle with a platform top all exposing them to the elements. The were slowly going around the countries waving at the guest. When all of a sudden a down pour hit. The vehicle did an about face and quickly proceded to exit. The funny thing was the speed at which the characters waved seemed to correlate with the speed of the vehicle. I thought thier arms were going to fly off.

The cheap 87 cent panchos worked great for us. We go in June so needing a heavier pancho to keep warm isn't an issue. We carry one for each of us and throw them away at the end of the day if they get wet.
