There is a responsibility when posting a thread...

Lately I have seen several threads identifying the same issue not mentioned more than three to five days previously. When someone goes to post a thread, he or she should make sure to check to see if a similar thread has been made. If there is a thread and the date is not very far off, the person thinking of posting a new thread should strongly be reconsidered and that person might want to contribute to what has already been started.

In other words:

1. Search for similar threads before posting a new thread

A. In the case there is a smiliar thread:

1. Don't post the thread
2. Post on that already existing thread

B. In the case there isn't a similar thread:

1. Post your own thread.

I don't want to post again, something I posted the day before in different spots.

Just know that when posting a thread there comes a responsibilty...it isn't a "jest" like as posting can get. Please, be considerate. :goodvibes

This drives in the other direction too...I don't think it is fair for members to "yell" at those who bring up an old thread. Of course, people don't want an old thread being bumped up if the reply is pointless and meaningless...but if the bumping post is useful and contributes well to the conversation, that should be accepted.

This is just in my opinion.

I would like to contribute a small list of threads of the same topic are being made:

Pets
Which DIS-er do you want to meet?
What's your favorite movie?
What's your favorite ride?
What's your favorite Disney song?
What's your favorite song?

Etc...
we have five million threads on your favorite song.

I agree. Just today, I noticed a new thread about the PSATs. No offense to the poster who started that, but I had one just a few days ago.

That's a list of the most common ones. I haven't seen too many about Pets, but "What Diser do you want to meet?" seems to pop up every week! I don't mind the last ones too much, because they are Disney related, and I know that we have been clamoring for more Disney threads, but they do come up more often than is necessary.

The reason I put the pets one is because if you look through all of the ones we do have, it doesn't change. It's not a real conversation, just people stating the kind of animal they have, the breed and then it's name. A new poster can search and add to that, there are plenty of those threads. You never see them bunched together, but there are plenty, trust me.

Am I the only one who is annoyed by threads bumped up from months ago?

I also don't like the million duplicate threads.

We need some serious conversation threads.

Oh. It would be nice to share funny stories about the pets, but if they are just lists, that doesn't sound like much fun.

I don't like the bumped up from months ago thread either. The conversation dies for a reason-there is nothing new to say that will add to it. Posts asking for more opinions used as a way to bump are kind of annoying too.
I enjoy threads that discuss issues and topics, like this one, as well as many others. The random list threads can get kind of annoying too.

I think if it is meaningful and necessary, threads should be bumped instead of making duplicate threads. Otherwise, by not allowing a bumped thread, these duplicate threads WILL be inevitable.

key words.

And it is never meaningful or necessary.

Its always one of two things

"me too"

or

"I heard about this a month ago"
(when the thread was originally posted a month ago)

I get severely annoyed by bumped threads.
Because 95% of the time it IS a 'me too' and plus it pushes the good threads down the page.
I want to have a real conversation with someone.
Something other than 'I'm going to Disney' because all I can reply to that is 'congrats, you're lucky.'

Well that was a little rude.

You were directing that entire thing at me. when you said "and I don't care if I'm annoying you" you're being rude. when you say "who cares" and follow it by "well you do" you're being rude. when you say "You can yell at me" when I've not yelled, you're being rude.

You can express yourself without being rude to those around you.

:sad2: i was not directing it towards you. sorry if you thought i was but i wasnt. :confused3 i was directing it to everyone who doesnt like threads being bumped up! :confused3 i was just expressing my opinion and i didnt mean to hurt your feelings but they are just threads and so what if they are bumped up! :confused3 i like em. i am NOT (telling you in advance) NOT telling you what to do, but if you arent interested in the thread, dont read it. :confused3 others may be. or else there isnt a point to them being bumped up if no one was interested in it. :confused3

Then why did you quote me in your responce?

And, sweetie, it takes a whole lot more than that to hurt my feelings.

i quoted u bcuz i was answering ur question.................and how i felt about the topic................but just bcuz someone quotes you, doesnt mean that they direct something towards u................ :confused3

Oh I completely agree. Thus the reason I make sure I add those words in whenever I post a statement like that.

I don't like "ancient" threads bumped if the post is so completely useless to the conversation. If you are going to post something, post like a forum was intended...not like a chat room.

Forums are where you express your opinions, your ideas and present them in a descent manner (a "descent" manner...meaning no flames...which means not directing negitive words and opinions harshly at any one poster).

Redundant threads are not necessary. If you were thinking about posting a thread on a similar topic, you must have something to say...then you may bump an old thread up to say what you would have said in that new thread. Obviously you wouldn't start a thread...titled, say, "What is your favorite Disney Song?" and then go on to make a first post saying, "me too". That makes no sense and does nothing to edge on conversation.

Conversations are what make things fun and interesting. Heck, you can boost your post count by posting fruitless things and that does nothing but junk a forum up. Sorry if I sound harsh, but I think I have been too nice about this for too long haha.

A forum, a board, is to talk...yes, talk about issues and leisure topics. Not determine whether this person agrees without backing it up. "Me Too" does nothing but boost a post count. If you say "me too" back it up...elaborate on it. And for heaven's sack don't bump a thread solely to say "me too". That is useless and down right annoying lol.

I saw, on the same page, two threads titled nearly identical about the same thing. The same exact thing. I will not say which thread to protect who ever started it..as my point isn't to pick on that person, but to get an idea across. I don't want to have to think, "Oh which thread should I post on, this one or this one? Which threads deserves this post?" One of the threads isn't necessary as I can find the exact same answers on the previously started one.

Bumping old threads, as I have said, should be only done when appropriate. Not when you want to boost your post count. I find that people consider popularity on this board as determined by a post count. Some people may run out of threads to post on that are present on the list of current threads (or the ones bolded on the main page) so they search for old, ancient, whatever word you want to give, threads to then post more so they can add another number to their count. That annoys the heck out of me. heh.

My point of this thread was to point out my thoughts about bumping an old thread up and being completely redundant when starting a new thread.
