There goes the trip (maybe, probably, hopefully not)

Sigh. We're supposed to leave for WDW in 1 1/2 weeks. With the current gas craziness, that is now in some doubt. I can handle $4 a gallon for the trip (that's what we budgeted for), but $5 or more isn't going to happen. Neither is it going to work if stations are limiting to 10 gallons per fill up or running out completely, as is going on here how. I don't want to risk getting stuck somewhere, unable to find gas. We have a gasser MH, so if this isn't resolved in a few days, I'll be pulling the plug on this trip and just hoping that things calm down before the marathon in January. The only real bummer (aside from not going) is that we already paid and registered for the Expedition Everest Challenge and that money is nonrefundable. Crud.

Where are you coming from? The latest creziness should be over by the time you leave - I hope!

I don't think there has been any serious damage that would cause a long term disruption in service, so any increase should actually be nominal and for a brief period. Despite all the internet threats, we have seen no increase in gas prices here in the lehigh valley. I saw something about a station in Tallahassee charging 5.49, but that was a single case and is being investigated.

Let me know if you can't come. If the EE Challenge is transferable I may be able to help you. I know a couple who waited too long to get in.

NTsammy: We're coming from NC. We've got stations here charging $5.00, although most are in the mid -$4 range. I hear SC and GA are just as bad, if not worse. There are also a bunch of chains rationing people to 10 gallons. Grrrr.

stacktester: The race registration isn't transferable, unfortunately. They could run under my name and chip number, but I would still have to go to packet pickup and claim the race packet to give them the bib number and chip -- they make you provide photo ID to get the materials. But thanks for the thought. If there were a way it could work, I'd definitely think about it.

With luck this will all blow over by then. Even if we can't go, I realize there are a lot of people who have far bigger concerns right now, so on the grand scheme of things, this isn't a big deal, just dissapointing.

I hope the gas situations improves also! We are leaving Thursday 5am...when pulling we only getting 9 miles a gallon...ugh, that's an expensive trip!

Gas this morning here in SC was still under $4 between $4.19 and 3.60 depending on what part of town. Diesel was just over $4.

ok, just came back from the Fort yesterday- there was NO gas issue until we got to SC. Sure the price went up about 50 cents or so along I 95 from Florida to NC since we left.
We paid $3.55 going down and $3.99 coming home. We bought gas at Disney for $3.55 on Thursday.
There was no limit or crazy mad dash for gas or big increases. Don't worry, just plan on going and enjoy!

Gas has gone up in North Alabama and Southern TN about 50 cents a gallon. Hopefully it is temporary.

Well here is a link on MSNBC that I can see the oil companies using to their benefit for gas price increases in the not so short term. We are in Canada and do not even import gas from the US but they raised our prices because of the storm and the possability of damage to refineries (that we don't even get fuel from). Our prices went from $1.20-$1.23/litre to $1.35-$1.49/litre on Friday night and it is still going up.

HOUSTON - Hurricane Ike appears to have destroyed a number of production platforms and damaged some of the pipelines in the Gulf of Mexico, federal officials said Sunday.

Fly-overs revealed that at least 10 production platforms were destroyed by the storm, said Lars Herbst, regional director for the U.S. Minerals Management Service.

Holy cow only $3.99 a gallon for gas! We live in Pa. and gas has hovered at about $4.40 to $4.80 for the past year. I am finishing up my El.Ed. Degree and finding a teaching job in Pa. is almost next to impossible. My hubby keeps wanting to move south. Maybe we should with those gas prices!

Last week I paid $3.45 a gallon- now it's up to $3.99

Last week we paid $3.48 in NC and now that station is up to 3.78 this morning. We had stations running out of gas on Friday when the panic :confused3 hit, but by Sunday everybody had gas again.

There is one chain of stations that is still limiting to 10 gallons but ther rest seem to be just raising the prices.

I am in the Piedmont Area of NC.

We also are heading down in less than 2 weeks, so we also hope it has gotten better by then.

We didn't panic, but we did run out and fill up the truck (gas hog) before the prices went up at all of the stations. It's sitting full in the driveway now and we probably wont drive it until we pick up the camper on Wednesday and leave on Thursday! I was hoping gas would be cheaper for this trip, but looks like its going to be the same as it was this summer! :confused3
