There are NO economy cars at MCO for National/Alamo!

For the first time, I rented an economy car through Alamo for the drive from the Orlando airport to the Dolphin last week. I figured I'd survive in an economy car because I was going to be in it for 30 minutes or less. So - as I walked through the parking garage looking for the economy cars, I couldn't find them! I finally asked the woman at the car rental exit booth, and she said, "We don't have economy cars - just pick a compact." So all these years I've been paying an extra $2 or $3 per day for a compact when I could've been paying for an economy car and getting a compact any way!

I haven't seen any rental company except Enterprise that ever has any economy cars in a couple of years...usually the rates are identical, but if they aren't you can always get at least a compact when you reserve an economy. Not sure about Payless and off brand places like L&M, but Dollar, Hertz, Avis, National and Alamo never have economy cars as far as I know.

I don't think there are many coupons that you can use for that category though....

I've seen alot of times it is less expensive to get a compact or mid size using a coupon than an economy without a coupon

Ah...good point! But in my case last week - there were no coupons I could've used for a one-day rental other than an upgrade one, and I didn't care about getting a bigger car.

As long as we're talking about what cars National and Alamo have at MCO - do both have the mid-size SUV as well as the standard SUV? If they have only the larger one, I will reserve the mid-size SUV for our family trip at Thanksgiving and "upgrade" for free.

It is standard procedure when there are no cars in a certain class to give a car in next class.

They do infact have the Midsize SUV. Chevy Equinox or Saturn Vue (Terrible cars in my opinion, I've had them both before. NO legroom!)

Thanks! Guess I'll stick with the standard SUV reservation, because I have a husband and 3 kids with LONG legs!

For those of you that have rented the mid size suv through Alamo...

Did those have power locks/windows?:confused3

I noticed under the equipment it was not listed, but found that odd.
In the past rented a compact that did not have power windows/locks so we usually get the midsize to get that option.

The Equinox we had did. It had keyless entry, too. Plus sunroof and leather. :)
