We make our way to the rooms and the kids are super excited to see the bigger than life statues that we've only seen in pictures. The All Stars won't be so bad. (Little did I know).
We arrive at the rooms and our luggage has already been delivered. Are you kidding me? Since we have such a late start, everyone needs to change clothes and shoes and be ready in 10 minutes. GO!
When I was packing for the trip, I went thru all the kids summer clothes. The outfits that I didn't want, I stacked in a suitcase that I wasn't planning to use on this trip. These were the older, wornout clothes that I really need to throw away or donate or whatever. As we begin to unpack, I unzip a suitcase and find.....all the outfits that I didn't want to bring!! I allowed DH to finish up the packing and apparently forgot to tell him that one of the suitcases full of clothes wasn't coming with us. Great. We have enough clothes for 8 kids now!
We start unzippering suitcases looking for the extra tennis shoes. And looking. And looking. We have FORGOTTEN the extra SHOES for Mom and DD. So we have a suitcase full of wornout clothes and no extra sneakers.
We laugh at how badly this trip is going. Grab the camera - let's go. Camera? Find the good camera. 10 minutes later - no camera. It seems the good camera wanted to stay home and keep the shoes company. We have 2 disposable cameras and TWENTY rolls of film and no camera. At least we remembered the videocamera.
We arrive at Animal Kingdom - the bus from the All Stars got us there sooo fast. I had a friend arrange for some tickets for me to use until I could buy my AP. A quick stop at Guest Services to pick up the tickets and we are on our way. The kids want to stop for lunch but I want to get going! Besides, they've had a poptart and Gatorade. They should be full for days!
First stop - the Safari ride. The kids keep clamoring for food & I agreed that if they do the safari now, we'll get food soon. At 12:30, the wait was 15 minutes! Let's go! After the Safari, of course all the kids wanted food but I wanted to see the Gorillas. We walked thru the Pangani with the kids complaining the whole time about food, food, food. Alright already. They allowed me to see the gorillas for about 32 seconds then we were off to find Flame Tree BBQ. But wait - there's no line for Tough to be a Bug. The sign says 5 minutes! Let's go. Besides, we're still on our way to the restaurant. I must say that I really don't care for ITTBAB. It scares me but if there's no line, we're doing it! After being scared to death by bees and bugs, we are now on the way to eat.
We find the Flame Tree and I send DH on to Dinoland to get FP for Dinosaur. The previously STARVING 11 & 9 y.o. boys now suddenly demand to ride Primevil Whirl. Since we haven't eaten yet, I think it's a great idea & send them along with DH. I get 3 trays of food (2 vouchers & 3 kids meals) and DD and 5 y.o. find a secluded patio by the water and wait for the boys to return. As I sit in the sunshine on the patio, I soak in the sun and ambience. The boys return and we enjoy our lunch. As we are finishing, we see a boat floating toward us. On board is Chip & Dale and a band. We stood on our patio and danced to the music and waved at Chip & Dale and relished the moment.
We went to Dinoland - no lines for anything. The kids ride Primevil Whirl again and the 5 y.o. rides Triceratops Spin with DH. The kids tried to use their FP for Dinosaur but it was broken. I really wanted to see the parade today because we missed it last time at AK. However, we're coming back to AK tomorrow and the weather is so warm. Let's head back to the hotel & swim.
A quick swim & we're off to Epcot. No lines here for anything either. We waited 10 minutes for Test Track, rode Spaceship Earth and we're able to get a table for Illuminations at the Cantina at 8:30! DH has just enough time to get us burrito kids meals and the fireworks begin. 5 y.o. slept in the stroller right along the water and didn't wake up at all until the next MORNING!
Once the fireworks are over, we decided to just wait for the crowds to pass by. From where we were sitting, we could watch the people walking. When the parade of tourists was winding down, we made our way to the bus stop & headed back to ASM to sleep. What a long first day!
Watching my kids walk to the room, they look absolutely exhausted. I make a mental note that tomorrow, we are totally NOT going commando. I'll force myself to take it easy on everyone so I don't drive anyone to the point of exhaustion again.
Yeah, sure.
