The Yachtsman Steakhouse … Disney’s TRULY Best Kept Secret Secret

I just found your report! You guys crack me up. I can't wait to get caught up and read all the details of your Yachtsman experience! :woohoo:

Mister Disney - I bet if you E-mailed the Chefs and asked for the recipe they would send it to you because you're the "Golden Boys " of the Yachtsmen Steakhouse. That dish and the Lobster, Shrimp & Jumbo Crab with Lemon Crème Fraîche & Avocado Cream have been on the Disney Recipe Exchange request list for quite a while and it would be awesome if you could get this and post it for us. ;) :worship:  Pretty Please

That recipe will not be released by the chef's of the restaurant, I asked.

Not to us mere mortals, of course. But we're talking about Kevin and Mr. Disney here! I'll make a wager that the Chefs will not say "No" to them.
OK, Mr. Disney - the gauntlet is thrown!

Hi Kevin - I hope your having an AWESOME week!!!!!

Brenda aka Cinderella

Hi Cinderella!

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I've been slammed at work with the feds breathing down my neck ... and goodness knows, we wouldn't want them going nuclear on me!

I hope Chef Al is treating you in a manner in which you are accustomed. :bride:

Stock Up? I'm an Eagle Scout. I make sure we have a flask and a knapsack at all times! Ya Just Never Know! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I tell you - nobody does reviews like you guys!! :goodvibes

(coming from a mom of 2 Eagle Scouts, and a dh scoutmaster 7years - so yeah, we are prepared, knapsacks and flasks at all times!!) :thumbsup2

Keep them coming!!

(somewhere I saw the bump of your latest poll - I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the Grand Tea - we're heading there in Oct!! :thumbsup2 I'm thinking we should add Brandy for the flasks... :rotfl2: ok ok, j/k!! :rolleyes1 - :rotfl2: but I am reading a few novels set in the 1800's and thats how the aristcrocy males took their high tea!! :rotfl2: )

"Filet" of Ribeye

Himalayan Pink Salt Block

Chef Gregg explained everything that went into this, which will only be partly captured here, trust me LOTS of preplanning went into these marvelous slices of beef!

Besides preparing it once in advance to try out the plan (I wonder who got to be part of that taste testing!)

Chef explained that they took a whole Ribeye, carved off just the outside of it, where a LOT of tasty meat is and then rolled that part and then roasted it. Once it was cooked they placed it on the Salt Block, which had been previously warmed in the ovens.

As the Ribeye sat on the salt block, the salt and juices from the beef co-mingled and the salt flavored the beef.

It doesn't take a Block head in my book to know a good thing when I see it.

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

The men of Broadview Manor, prefer ribeyes to any other cut of meat and Kevin worked out in advance for the Chefs to prepare a ribeye for us. Never expecting such a presentation....I can only say blown away.

The Yachtsman Steakhouse is the only restaurant on Disney Property (outside of V&A) that still carves their own meats in house. When you arrive at the Steakhouse, you will notice a glass meat cooler where the Chefs prepare the meat for use.

Just like the salt block Food Network's IRON CHEF!!

OK ... so wait a minute ... we forgot to mention that it's at this point that HALF the staff came over to see how these course went over (the braised short ribs and rib eye). :dance3: This was the wonderful smell coming from the kitchen all day. These were two of the many jewels presented in the crown this evening.

MAGNIFICANT! BRAVO! WELL DONE .... well not well done, PERFECTLY DONE!

POOR YUN was working double time at this point! Watch out for stains ... the kitchen is running out of SPOONS!

I like the diagram! Nice work!!! Can we go to the Yachtman Now - today is a hectic day at the office and I think we need a good meal!

The diagram - an Alton Brown moment too!! :thumbsup2

and OMG - I'm just drooling over the Yachtsman's special menu!!

I'll pass on the port but I'm drooling over those 3 tasty morsels!

I'll take your port!! ;)

Bob - That was not fair! I am NOT supposed to cry reading the dang RESTAURANT board! :sad2: What a sweet tribute.
While we aren't fancy diners (just edible, thanks) I totally agree that dining "well" is more about sharing the experience with people you love and enjoying yourself.

And for Kevin to love you more than DESSERT? That is a whomping honor coming from him!

*sniff
and thanks for including the Pirate's picture!! pirate: I was wondering about that!!

Now, I love the quote - its why dh and I wait all year to eat out, and then do it all at disney - its such a savoring experience!!

We went to Yachtsman (and you missed the augratin potatoes I noticed ) I have been trying to make au gratin taters, but OMG - THEY make au gratin potatoes to put to shame ALL other au gratin potatoes - and I asked for the recipe - they just smiled and said, its just a plain au gratin... IS NOT!!

Now I want to go back, now I want to swap our Cali Grill ressies with another trip to Yachtsman!!

:thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing so much!! I appreciate it!

Shall I take that other DISer as me Mister Disney?:confused3

WELL ... Mister Disney's certainly giving me the Royal Treatment.

And although we're of different demographics and have lots of family secrets, the Princess Treatment is totally reserved for Our Lady of the Manor!

Errr Happy.. would you care to elaborate? Was it a scream like in O.M.G I've never seen anything that ginourmous before  or a scream like "my eyes, my poor bleeding eyes! :3dglasses

Due to the fact that I am of "small stature", EVERYTHING looks ginourmous. :thumbsup2

I screamed in horror :scared1: :scared1: because I believe in being modest, unlike "some" in our household...

You will NEVER see a picture of me exiting a bathroom with anything less than my traditional Red Shirt and Blue pants!

Great review guys.

Nice to hear what Mark is doing these days, we met him at the Cape May Cafe a few years ago and talked to him.

He's from our neck of the woods, in other words he's Dutch. So if you ever want to suck up to him some more by "speaking" his native language let me know!

How about a few pointers on Dutch?
