I have a freind in VMK that has a lot of stuff. He has a message in his signature that says leaving VMK. I foudn him in one of his rooms and asked him why he was leaving. He said he decided to sell his character on ebay.

He is selling the user id, password and the winner will get all the rooms and items he has.

Of course a bunch of us told him it was wrong VMK doesn't allow it. His response was people still do it and VMK have not done anything yet. I still said but if it's wrong even if you dont' get caughte it's still wrong. Integrity is not in the VMK dictionary and I think it shoud be.

I doubt he is 18 from dealing with him, sometimes you can just tell. So he is either going to break ebays terms of service by being under age and selling or he is getting a parent to do it for him. Which is worse I can't say!

Sigh, I understand capitalism but I think that selling virtual items for real cash is just wrong but if someone will sell, there is someone that will buy. I can't help feeling that it sends such a wrong message. Someone doesn't have to work for their stuff they can just buy whatever they want. I sell on ebay often and I have the means to buy that stuff, I would never do it because it would take away the fun, the thrill of the hunt, the excitement over trading.

So I am going to watch ebay with disappontment that a friend went "to the dark side"

That is sad and someone bought 8 stitch sets on e-bay hello waste of money what if vmk closed the next day not saying it is and I hope not lol but its still not worth it to me.

Just to play devil's advocate for a minute, not supporting or condemning the ebay thing, what people spend their money on is their own business as far as I'm concerned. But, try telling someone spending their hard earned money on something they want, that they didn't have to work for it. Most entertainment these days (movies, music, video games) is "virtual", you realize that don't you?

For some people, trading rare items makes the game more interesting for them, while other still prefer the mini games, too each his own. But not everyone has the time after working all week to participate in every event. And since VMK itself seems to encourage the ever expanding gap between the "haves" and "have nots", you can't blame someone for spending their probably hard earned money on something that they enjoy. Everyone has something they like to "induldge in". While you don't have to like what your "friend" is doing, you shouldn't throw stones.

Unless you are the one paying yours "friend's" bills, it's no concern of yours what he does with his things.

well, that just wrong!!!! spending money on something that is fun, but not real!!!! like you said, what if vmk closed, and i just can't say anything else because everything i want to say would be really hurtful to a lot of people. sorry, but this just seems very wrong!!!

EDIT: reading back through the thread, i agree with Julesoola. you can choose which of my opinions you like best. as for me, yes i think it's probably not exactly what vmk planned, and it is a little strange, but it's up to each individual to decide what they'd like to do with their money.

When People sell vmk items on Ebay there is no way to track the item back to them. VMK cant ask Ebay for private user information so unless this person is dumbo enough to use the same Email address to sell his character that he used to sign up for VMK no one is going to know.
Is selling Virtual items wrong? Not if someone is willing to buy them!
Just like selling a grill cheese sandwich in the shape of Jesus for millions of dollars is probably against some peoples morals...someone did it, and someone bought it.
People will buy and Sell anything on Ebay. I once saw an auction for someones old sneakers they were held together by duct tape but guess what...someone bought them for about 100$
So your friend may be breaking VMK Values..but so is the person who bids on it.
neither will get in trouble and the world won't stop spinning.

Another thought to add..you should be glad people are paying so much money for this stuff. So long as Disney sees that there is money to be made with this game, they will keep it open. EBay is their best evidence of that, don't you think?

Just a reminder about eBay threads they tend to get heated at the first sign of trouble this thread will be closed.

Not to support it in any way, but just to point out something that people are not seeing...

Many have the argument that people are paying for "virtual" stuff...pixels...something not real. Which is true in one sense, but in reality they are paying for entertainment. Buying a ticket to a broadway show...to a movie...to even Disneyland. What physical thing do you take home with you other than the ticket stub? You are paying for entertainment...that is not a real, physical thing you can hold either.

But none of that profit is going to Disney, and Disney is known for having a huge problem with people making cheddar off their name and exsistence.

Be careful who you confide in. The creation of this thread is a prime example of that.

Yes, but until they start charging for vmk cards/items, they aren't likely to concern themselves with it. Meanwhile, they have a lot of proof that people are willing to spend the money on the game AND that it's bringing people into the park. Chances are they're counting on those park visits to generate revenue of some kind, even if people just stop to buy a $10 soda, lol.

All of you hate items from VMK being sold, dont talk about selling characters because that part is wrong. What about items.

If you dont like items being sold there dont report it! Some people actually like to buy them there. Instead of spending 2000 dollars on a trip to disney just to get the codes. Dont report it. Dont look at it. Just let people sell and buy them there and stop complaining about items sold on ebay..

You're right there. Any given VMK-purposed WDW trip I go on, I spend about 100 bucks everytime. Two days ago I braught 3 family members to Typhoon Lagoon, it was my first visit there as well.. nice recomendation VMK.. that park rocks!

If I made something for people for free, I don't think it would sit well with me to see people making profit off of it, especially when it's costing me money even though it's free.

Calm down dude, your tone is going to have the thread closed. To each their own means also letting peeps have their own opinions. I could care less about VMK/Ebay issues, but the principle of the thread is what I find more disturbing. It's a real eye opener when it comes to being careful with what you tell people.

I found this on the VMK home page. Click VMK Values at bottom of the page. Scroll to bottom of the page and click House Rules. I cut and paste this directly:

9. Don't buy or sell accounts or items. We reserve the right to cancel any player account that was bought or sold, or player accounts that have bought or sold items.

11. Failure to comply with the rules of VMK may result in your being banned from VMK temporarily or even permanently.

There it is in black and white people.

Hence my obnoxious use of the "quotes" when referring to her "friend". lol.
I always try to remember that where ever you go, the walls have ears :earboy2:

And if the walls don't rat you out, your trusted friends surely will.

Whether or not eBay is against vmk values is not what people are debating, we all know it is.

Actually there is a way to trace items back to an ebay seller, and get the ebay sellers information. Unless they have changed the way ebay works, you can look up a sellers profile and get there information such as contact number and email addy. It will ask for your information and theirs and ebay keeps track at who's looking at whose profile.

It would be VERY stupid of the person buying the account, because the seller still has all of the info. for the account. They can sell it to the person and then go into the character and trade it to another person. Why on Earth would somebody buy someone else's account??? :confused3

LOL, I do like me some fish grog now and then ;)

I'm sure I'll see you in your quest/ride rooms at some point, I'm something of a regular. heh heh.

The biggest problem with this idea, is that the person selling has the user id and password. What if he sells it, and then goes in and takes all the stuff? The person who bought it is left with nothing? This just sounds like a bad idea all around and a bad risk for the buyer.
