I’m really just doing this in fun, because it’s the ONLY place that I can talk about my extremely unplanned, vastly impromptu trip.

I leave in 2 ½ days for Orlando.

 Hi, I’m Jenn.

I decided about a day and a half ago that I am going to take my 2 kids (DD2 and DS4) to WDW and join up with a dear friend of mine for 6 days (May 29-June 4).

I know, I know… I’m crazy.

This is the absolute nuttiest thing I have ever done.

People take impromptu trips all the time. But chances are they don’t take these types of trips when you live over 800 miles away.

May is a notoriously crazy month for me, and this year has been no exception. Except my May began the end of April and has not let up in weeks.

I was given the invitation to join my friend and her family a few months ago, but I declined. We (DH, myself, and the kids) were in WDW for 6 days back in September, and I had to promise DH no more family trips until 2015. Well, 3 months later, I was invited to go to WDW with my BFF, E, and her mom in December 2011 (which I accepted). So yeah, we didn’t need to go again… or do we? :confused3:

Since May has not disappointed, last weekend was the icing on the cake. I had the honor to be asked to photograph a wedding for a friend of my SIL’s. Bless the bride’s heart – Murphy’s Law was in full effect the day of the ceremony. I put on my best smile and went to work, did my thing, and helped out where I could! Less than 20 hours after the wedding, I was in immediate care with DD. She not only developed pink eye… she developed DOUBLE pink eye with a side of sinus infection! :faint:

I officially hit my wall and experienced my first (and hopefully ONLY) mid-30 crisis.

I sat in my chair Sunday night and around 11p the light bulb came on. I still had an invitation to go to Florida with my friend. I texted her to see if there was still room (for 3). DH said I could go, but I had to take the kids.

REALLY?????

I found out that there was still room in the condo, but not in the van, so if we came along, we would have to drive separately.

Okay… I can handle that.

Even better to have our own car because A) I’m not crazy about Disney buses and B) the other family is spending two days at Sea World and I would rather go to WDW.

So here I sit, just a couple days away from our departure fashioning four new autograph books (one for each kid going: 5, 4, 2, and 2) and figuring out what I need to pick up at the dollar store.

Have I mentioned this is going to be an extreme budget trip???

We have NO ADRs, we are staying offsite, and I will be driving everywhere. I plan to pack at least one meal per day to 1) save money and 2) minimize our downtime – we lost a lot of touring time in September due to food and buses.

I have loosely planned our park days and made a list of the “really-would-like-to-do-this” stuff. So here goes…

Friday – leave Indiana and drive through the night. We will have 5 adult drivers between two vehicles and we will stop whenever/however often is necessary

Saturday – arrive in Florida, check-in to time share. Nap/pool/rest. Possibly visit with DH’s cousin and her roommate in Orlando. Pick up park tickets from K and Em. The girls are buying our tickets on Friday so I don’t have to deal with two kids at Guest Services (or TTC) and we can head straight in to RD ceremonies.

Sunday – Epcot
Park hours: 9a-9p
Crowd prediction: 6.5

Monday – Hollywood Studios
Park hours: 9a-7p + evening EMH. NO F! ()
Crowd prediction: 5.9
Notes: will attempt to see Phineas & Ferb but they may not be out – will also attempt JTA

Tuesday – Animal Kingdom
Park hours: 9a-6p
Crowd prediction: 6.7
Notes: will FINALLY go back to Rafiki’s Planet Watch – we’ve never made it back there in two trips :sad2:

Wednesday – Magic Kingdom
Park hours: 9a-10p
Crowd prediction: 4.9
Notes: will attempt Rapunzel play and greet if the lines aren’t too crazy

Thursday – Epcot
Park hours: 9a-10p + morning EMH
Crowd prediction: 2.3
Notes: I know this is the park to avoid due to morning EMH BUT I can’t imagine ending our trip with EP over MK…

Friday – Magic Kingdom
Park hours: 9a-9p
Crowd prediction: 4.4

The things I’d like to do:
Animal Kingdom – find DeVine (missed her last trip), find the Dragon waterfall, and explore Rafiki’s

Hollywood Studios – FINALLY ride TSM. That’s right… we’ve never done it. Hopefully find Phineas and Ferb

Epcot – find Mulan. Figure out how to ride Soarin’. DD2 isn’t quite 40” (at least not at last measurement… and we haven’t done that in a while). My friends won’t be with us on either of our EP days UNLESS I swap out our last two days and do MK two days in a row.

Magic Kingdom – find Tiana and Rapunzel. Ride SWSA (DS loves this ride) and IASW.

That’s about all I have for now.

I don’t even know the name of our hotel. I guess I’ll find out when I get the address to put into my GPS! :rotfl2:

LOL! I'm IN! :cool1:

You look great! I can see your weight loss! :thumbsup2

Now if you can just find those DANG FAIRIES! :tink:

I'm in!! How exciting to do a spur of the moment trip. We are getting APs this summer - and I am really hoping for some impromptu trips as well!

For Soarin' - how far is your daughter from the height requirement? Could she wear some lifts that day? ;)

I have NEVER done Rafiki's! I think it needs to go on our agenda. But should I skip it this summer and do it when it's cooler??

And WHAT is the Dragon waterfall??

Holy heck what a fun time you are gonna have! I hope that your trip is JUST what you need to get you out of May and into June with no issues arising.

I look forward to seeing how it turns out! Good luck!

I'm in, now I need to go back and read! :lmao:

It's funny, because I think my last PTR was the worlds LONGEST!

I would consider getting an AP for myself but our December trip is on a package, so that's out of the question!

My SIL just measured DD at 38" shoeless, but I don't know if she did it 100% correct. I doubt DD was standing up tall or had her head up right. I'll re-check tonight.

Standard tennis shoes add anywhere between 3/4-1" in height regardless... we'll just have to see! And she has 2 pairs of tennis shoes... I'll see which one is thicker! :rotfl2: (DISCLAIMER: one pair is a standard pair of Nike sneakers, the others are KMart Disney Princess sneakers - I'm not going to go buy new shoes...)

I have always wanted to do Rafiki's but I know you can't take a stroller back there (they're not allowed on the train) and we frankly have not had time. Heck, we wanted to do FOTLK in September and just didn't make it.

The Dragon waterfall is a sculptured waterfall in AK near the bridge that takes you to Camp Minnie-Mickey. If you don't know it's there, it's easy to miss. Look here.

Cool, huh? ::yes::

Thanks!

This year has been particularly hard between the job, and looking for a new job, and life in general. I can't tell you the last time I had a moment to have even 20 seconds to myself!

I am [currently] a paraprofessional/student aide for a brilliant blind young man (he's 5th out of 401 in his senior class). Well, since he's graduating and there are no other blind/low vision students that need my department's services, they can't guarantee me a job next fall, only reasonable assurance. I do have in at General Motors (I was referred by a current employee) and I've passed the initial round of testing and my name is in the bank of people they call for actual jobs. In addition to being a mom and student aide, I also take pictures for a local newspaper doing sports for all the county and city kids. It's a pretty cool gig. :) I also pick up odd photo shoots here and there AND judge photography for different counties for 4-H during the summer.

See why I need some "me" time?? :lmao:

I wouldn't trade my life for anything... I just need a vacation every now and then. :rolleyes1

Shoot, I was joking with DAunt-in-law that I wanted to go to Disney b/c it's the ONLY place in the world that I feel "truly" away from it all. Guess my wish came true!

:goodvibes So happy you are going! (jealous, too! ;))

In all seriousness - you need a break, you recognize that and you are going to have a wonderful time. I seriously can 'see' you driving like mad on Friday through the night to 'GET THERE!' :lmao:

Can't wait to see the autograph books! I need some tips on that - love the idea and they are worlds apart from 'everyone else's' at WDW. We've always bought the ones that Disney sells... think I could get them done by December?? :confused3

Can't wait to read some more! Your trip sounds wonderful - I want to know what Disney is like w/o ADR's and I want a full report on TSM!!! :thumbsup2 I just know you are going to love it. You are such a visual person!

Here are what the olds ones look like:

DD lost hers and DS would like a new cover, so...

Hers will be Aurora and his is going to be Peter Pan. I'm not sure what the other two will look like.

If you feel crafty, I'm willing to write out detailed instructions.

If you have ever covered a book, you can do this project! Heck... the first one I ever made was merely a 4x6 artist sketch book that I covered with scrapbook paper and stickers. All of the others, I have had mat board cut to be identical in size to the first and then covered those as well. :)

I am in! I can't believe you are going spur of the moment like this. How absolutely fun!!!! :thumbsup2

It's not going to happen.

According to Steve Soares and an insider character hunter, only TINK is available this week. :sad2:

Well, heck, maybe you should plan ANOTHER trip....... for July or so when they DO get settled into their new home! :rotfl:

Seriuosly, I totally "get" why you need to get away. If I didn't have Disney to look forward to and focus on from time to time, I'd go crazy.

Here's sending you LOADS of pixiedust for a spectacular trip and for getting some good news soon on your job. :wizard::wizard::wizard::wizard::wizard::wizard:

LOL! Ain't that the TRUTH! :rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

This probably just BLOWS your MIND!

Okay... what do I need?

Here's my "to buy" list:
  • 2 flats of water
  • ponchos
  • flavor packets
  • glow sticks
  • shampoo containers
  • pop up hamper

I just got a text that a friend of mine has a TON of clothes to pass on to DD (and a lot of shorts in there too). That means that I don't have to go buy any last minute!

I'm headed to Dollar Tree here in a few... what am I forgetting? :confused3

Good chapstick and sunscreen?? :confused3

I would love to have info on the autograph scrapbooks and their creation! Can I get them BEFORE you leave on Friday? :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

TOTALLY kidding - I can wait til ya get back! :thumbsup2 But you gave me a good start just by saying 'cover a book.' How fun this will be! :woohoo:

So here's the critical question........

Forget the kids......... which CAMERA are you bringing??????? :cool1:

(OK, you KNOW I'm just kidding about the kids part.....)

I will be taking my Nikon D300s, 16mm fisheye, 24-85mm, and my 80-200mm.

And my little tripod.

Heck, I figure if I'm driving, why leave it behind?? :confused3

In theory, though I haven't discussed this with the car (::yes:: the car), if I can convince it to squeeze the beastly stroller in there, well... I can lug all that crap in the stroller and not have to worry about a locker. :teeth:

Sounds like a great plan!
