The NY Post has a little more detail. Apparently she assaulted him, which included scratches and objects thrown at him. All this while threatening to kill him and stab him in front of her 3 small children.

Attempted murder? Maybe not - but if this had been a man beating and threatening a woman in front of 3 small kids, he wouldn't get any sympathy. Let's not assume that, just because the perp is a woman, that she is not capable of murder...

She was in the Navy for a few years too, so she's no shrinking violet. I'm certain she can hold her own in a fight.
