The woman who accused the Duke lacrosse players of rape has been charged with...

That whole episode was a shame. The prosecution (and good old Reverend Al) just jumped to conclusions instead of actually investigating the accusations.

Sounds like karma came back to bite her...good.

Yes it was a shame. I remember the media blitz while it unfolded. There wasn't the same media fervor when the case unraveled.

A bad egg, indeed.

As you probably know, it was worse than that. The prosecutor covered up evidence that the charges were false. He was guilty of a whole lot more than jumping to conclusions...

Yes. Wasn't the prosecutor stripped of his license?

Actually I forgot about that but I do remember it now that you mention it.

The whole thing was completely disgusting. I followed this story very intently because I was horrified at how people jumped on the "spoiled racist athletes" instead of waiting for some actual facts. Nifong was disbarred. To this day, it disgusts me. Filing false rape accusations is sickening.

I don't know that I'd call this karma necessarily. I prefer it when karma works mysteriously.

This is in my back yard so that was on TV all last week...but what I couldn't understand was "why wasn't she charged for filling false accusations"? She was free to live her life and write a book. I just think about those three boys and their families what they had to go through.

She's a real piece of work. Hopefully one day she gets everything she deserves.

:sad2:

Why is she charged with "attempted murder?"

She didn't go after him with a knife, she just threatened, and she set his clothes on fire in a bathtub. She must have been trying to keep the rest of the place from going up in flames. She should be charged with assault and arson, but I can't help but think the escalated charge is related to her past. Two wrongs don't make a right.

I think it has something to do with threatening to stab the boyfriend when she was being hauled off by the cops. In general, it is not considered to be a Good Idea (tm) to threaten violence when in the presence of law enforcement. My guess is that one will be dropped, FWIW, but she still needs to be put away for some time.

Anyone want to take odds that part of the defence will be that she was traumatized by the national attention in the Duke Lacross broohaha, and thus was not responsible for her actions?

^^ Of course... the poor thing went through sooo much, ya know.

If there's nothing to support the charge, it will be dropped. I'm sure that's what will happen. In the meantime, I hope she's rotting in a jail cell somewhere, scared to death that the charge will stick and she will actually have to defend herself against it.

The NY Post has a little more detail. Apparently she assaulted him, which included scratches and objects thrown at him. All this while threatening to kill him and stab him in front of her 3 small children.

Attempted murder? Maybe not - but if this had been a man beating and threatening a woman in front of 3 small kids, he wouldn't get any sympathy. Let's not assume that, just because the perp is a woman, that she is not capable of murder...

It takes a special kind of psychopath to start anyone's possessions on fire.

If any arson was attempted while someone was in the home at the time it can be attempted murder. Starting it in a tub doesn't really matter. You can't start something as uncontrollable as a fire and claim it was done in a controlled manner.

Had the fire killed someone she would probably be charge with murder to one extent or another depending on jurisdiction.

I imagine though that the attempted murder charge was added so it can be used in a plea deal later.
