The Wilderness Lodge FAQ (Part 6) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

Looking at staying WL in Feb/late January. Flexible on dates. With a 2 year old and 5 mth old. I looked at the price difference between WL and POR and it seems to only be a few hundred more. I think if we are going to stay all week then a bigger bed-price is worth it? Going deluxe but still as budget friendly as we can. Hoping for a code, like everyone!
any recommendations?
praying my 2 yr old will sleep with all of us in one room.

so glad I found this thread!

my husband and I are leaving in one week for our trip to WL for his birthday. I want to order a cake and have it delivered to our room... would Whispering Canyon do this? My plan was to somehow sneak away from him on our first day there (Monday) and see if I could order a cake for his bday (Thursday) is this possible, or do they need more notice than that? Or are there recommendations for getting a cake from somewhere else? Its just the two of us, so we don't need anything big or elaborate.

Hi there,

When you get to the Lodge, there will be a room service booklet. On the inside of the front cover it says:
" MAGICAL DINING" - Touch 71043 on your room phone to place an order. Our cast are available to take your order daily from 6-11:30am or 4pm until midnight.
This entails anything from breakfast in bed to ordering something special. In fact you can call ahead for any meal and given them a time when you want it delivered and they will come when you say.

They even have two Toasting Packages. One is with Magicale, Brachetto Piedmonte (off dry rose with flavors of bing cherries, raspberries and strawberries, great with chocolate) or the Fairy Tale by Iron Horse (crisp, lemon, apples, pears - this was crafted by Disney's own sommeliers). This package comes with two commemorative etched champagne flutes you keep. We got them, they look really nice.

But, I would give them a call, I would do it at least 24 hours in advance and they can tell you what you can arrange.

Now, you can also go down to the lobby and check with the Concierge Desk (not Club Level), they will also help you!! If you can't call from your room.

The cakes are made by the bakers at the Lodge. They have a pastry chef.

Now, if you want to call from home try this # 407-248-1043. I think that will work.

Good luck!!! Have a wonderful trip.

Hi there. We are staying at the WL for the first time in December and we are very excited! :yay: I noticed a picture at the bus stop there is a bus that goes to Ticket & Transportation Center. Is this a faster way to get to Epcot if there isn't a bus at the Lodge for Epcot? Seems the TTC is so close it could be an efficient way to hop on the monorail. Has anyone used this option to get to Epcot? TIA!

You must have seen an old picture. There is no longer a bus from WL to TTC. The fastest way to get to EPOCT is the bus. As a hub to get to other resorts you would use MK. So you can take the bus or boat from WL to MK then transfer at MK to the other resorts. Also, there is a boat from WL to CR and FW.

I hijacked this from another thread... can anyone comment about WL CL we leave in 2 weeks for our first trip!!

Just at Poly CL this week. We had 2 bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shower gel, mouth wash, toothbrush w/ toothpaste in box and solar relief gel.

I am so excited. I've got two weeks now before we leave from New York to Orlando. From the airport we are taking Tiffany Limo direct to the WL. I don't want to miss one minute of my magical vacation. (I heard very good things about Tiffany.) I really hope I am not forgetting to do something. I want to do some shopping before we leave for last minute items but I"m hoping not very much.

This is what I assume I can get easily from the WL: the usual hotel toiletries like shampoo and soap. I'm not checking bags so I will have to buy sunblock there. Is that readily available? I'm guessing it would have to be.

I"m also checking the Florida weather (why I'm doing this I can't say. Its hot, right? :rotfl: It is just something I do before I leave on a trip.) How predictable are those "chance of thunderstorms?" Are they usually morning or afternoon episodes? I've got my rain ponchos just in case.

If I don't a get room with a view of the MK fireworks, is it possible to view the fireworks from a public area at the WL?

Is walking to Fort Wilderness out the question? I like walking around to see new sights but this trek looks likes quite a hike, and in really hot weather too.:scared1:

I can check in online starting on wednesday. Should I do this? Is there any benefit to checkin online myself?

Thanks for all the advice.

You can buy sunscreen all over WDW, but it is expensive...if you get a grocery stop with Tiffany, take advantage of it...you can pick up sunscreen, snacks, water, etc for a fraction od the cost of WDW, and it will only take a few extra min. I know that many of the towncar/limo services include a complimentary grocery stop.

As for the rain...you've got your ponchos, you're set.

Fireworks...I haven't tried it yet, just heard about it while planning this trip, but apparently there is a balcony somewhere over the valet parking or WCC area that you can see fireworks from...hopefully someone else who has seen the fireworks from there can tell you (and me) more about it.

Yes, there is a path that goes over to FW...it is king of lengthy, but a nice walk...not sure if I'd do it in Aug. It is shaded though. YOu can also take the boat over there and walk around.

I haven't been to WDW since online checkin started, so can't really help you there.

Have a great time, and come back and tell us all about it afterwards!

Piglets Mommy gave great info. I can add a little:

Yes, it is HOT here right now, very. We have had feels like temps over 100 degrees.

We seem to have thunderstorms almost every day. But, sometimes it seems to skip a day or two. Orlando seems to get these storms around 3pm - 5pm. A great time to go back to the resort and freshen up!!

The rain can be hit or miss so just pay attention to the sky.

The Wilderness Lodge will also clear the pool area if there is lightening detected.

Fireworks - There is a little section either on the 5th or 6th floors that is on the North side of the lodge, it's inside just before you get to the second set of elevators. We usually watch them from there. You can also open the shutters to see better.

Online Check In - I have not used it yet, but I just had a friend who used it and when she got to the Lodge, she had been upgraded to Club Level!! So, it is possible to get upgrades that way.

It is also very convenient as she says. Check in was very quick. And, if it is as busy as I think it will be - we have seen the check in line wind through the lobby.

Good luck and have fun!!

Thank You Lodge Lady.

I've found this thread so helpful for our upcoming trip. I plan to keep a journal and write a trip report just for ya'll when I get back.

I'm sooo excited!!!!!!

I am so excited  we just booked our trip for Sept 2010 for first time staying at WL. We are not telling the kids that we are staying there but that we are staying at POP again. We will arrive Friday evening so we will tell them that we are taking ME to WL since we have ADR at Whispering Canyon then when we arrive, we will surprise them that we are staying at WL for 8 nights. :cool1::cool1:

Doesn't the MK bus revert to the TTC route after the MK closes?

I did online check in last night, seems like a great way to save time! We are staying Woods view, and it is just hubby and I - looks like we'll get two queens or a king... is it too late to request a king bed? we check in next Monday!!

We would usually take the boat to the Contemporary, then get on the monorail to the TTC...just so we could ride the monorail. :)

Curious...about how long did that take?

Thank you all for replying and offering your tips! I don't know how to quote multiple posts, so this is to everyone that replied...LOL...:thumbsup2

It's easy. At the bottom of each person's post you will see the Quote button and right next to that you see the " button (to the right of the quote button). Just click that button for each person you want to quote.:thumbsup2
