The Wilderness Lodge FAQ (Part 6) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

We are planning on going next May and staying at WL. Two questions:

1)Are there bunkbed rooms in the "Bear Face" section?

2) What kind of fishing is there besides the excursions? Can you fish off the dock? Is it cane pole fishing like at POR? My DH and kids went on a fishing excursion last time when we were staying at the POLY and ended up fishing by the dock at WL, they caught tons of fish there, so why pay for an excursion when the fish could by right there.
:confused3

Does anyone have pictures of the robes on the CL?

Are they nice?

Do they have a logo?

What are the ones like you can purchases in the shops, are they the same?

We received a pair on DCL that we got to keep, those were HEAVY terrycloth, but ironically no logo. They only have a tag in the neck that says WDW.

Well, after going over our plan for our adults only trip in September, we decided to switch our reservation (go figure).;) We have not stayed at WL but originally decided to book AKL. I know need to figure out room request. Are there king beds on CL that are not the 4 honeymoon rooms?

I posted this on the cruise board too... we're staying at WL 8/23 - 8/29, then getting on the Disney Magic.

Anyone joining us?

1. What time does the flag family typically go up and raise the flags? And how long does it take?

2. I would really like to do this on Sept 24 because we'll have character breakfasts booked on every other day we're there but we check in on Sept 22 so I fear other families will have grabbed up that date before I have a chance to ask. We will however, be in world (not staying at WL) starting on the 18th. Has anyone ever asked to be the flag family before you check-in in person at WL before? And if so, did they let you do it?

TIA!

We just got back, and were lucky enough to be the Flag Family on Thursday, May 21st. We arrived on Thursday, 5/14, and we left on Saturday, 5/23. I asked about it as soon as we arrived, and the only days available out of the 9 nights we were staying were the 21st and the 23rd. So they book really quickly, and the CM said you can't book it until you arrive.

A letter was delivered to our room the day before telling us to be at the Concierge desk for 8:15. All in all, it took about an hour. I don't think it takes that long normally, but we were thrilled to have Ranger Stan as our "host", and he was so nice, very accommodating and informative. We spent quite a while on the roof with him and then some more time with him after we came down to the 7th floor.

He said he only works Thursday through Saturday, so if you don't get him as your host it may not take as long.

We will be there the end of Sept so hope to make good use of the pools (2DD's will be 3 and almost 5), but was wondering how the playgroung is?

Is the flag family for Concierge guests only?

Do you think they get a preference?

We were a Flag Family Dec. '08 and (at least then) wasn't for concierge only and I do not believe they get preference (but I wouldn't know). It appeared to me very much a first come first serve basis (so to say). I had asked when I called to add a room request if we could sign up for Flag Family ahead of time and I was told it had to be done at check-in. We had Ranger Don (I think that was his name anyway). It was the coolest experience and I hope you get to do it! You can pretty much take as long as you want on the roof. You can see so much from up there you can see how close you really are to all the attractions... My son got to help string up the American Flag and raise it. Then we all did the pledge of allegiance. After we were done my kids were given certificates for having been a flag family and then we were taken to the concierge floor and offered breakfast there.

If you do get to do it - do not forget your camera!! Good Luck!! :goodvibes

They will be a good age for the playground. It is a somewhat small playground but sufficient. My then 4 year old enjoyed it. It is on the white sand by the lake kind of toward the rental area by the docks. It was nice to kick back in a nice beach chair and enjoy the calming views of the lake while being right by the play area for my kiddos. It truly is an awesome resort-something for everyone!

The IPO office did very well with our ADRs.:cool1:

Got everything we asked for within 10 minutes EXCEPT our own hotel. We wanted WCC at 7:00, got 7:50!

How does that happen? Can't the CL in WL pull their own strings?!:rotfl:

I'm a little confused about the views from the Wilderness Lodge Honeymoon Rooms. Do any of the rooms have a water or pool view? Any suggestions on what we should request?
Many thanks for advice and info! :goodvibes

There are only 4 honeymoon suites at the WL. They both face a woods view; no water view available. On one side you will face the MK/woods and the other is a view of the WL Villas/woods. They are located in the lobby area on the 7th floor (club level). We had the Villa view and it wasnt bad, we were a few feet away from the club lounge. We were also right next to the kiddie TV ( very loud!!!). I would suggest that you requst a MK view. It is further away from the lounge, but much quieter, and maybe you can get a glimpse of the fireworks.

We loved the honeymmon suite and cant wait to go back. The tub is to die for!

Thanks so much for the information! :goodvibes I made a note of it, and will kindly request from the IPO. I realize at Disney these things are request, only.
I just changed our ressie from standard CL to the Honeymoon room, today. :yay:

No problem! We love the CL there and have stayed in both std. and honeymoon suite rooms. I prefer the honeymoon suite rooms over the std. any day!! The jacuzzi tub is simply awesome! It was so nice after a long hard day at the parks ;), to grab a glass or 2 of wine from the lounge and soak in the tub for an hour. I wish I could have booked the honeymoon suite for my trip in July, but I am taking my mom with me. I am going to try to book my hubby and I one again this fall for our 4 year anniversary trip in Sept.. Come on AP codes!!!

IPO is the Itinerary Planning Office. They are the people that do all the advance bookings for Club Level guests - arranging things like dining reservations, special tour bookings etc.

It maybe silly, but I am having a hard time getting excited about the WL in July. We have always stayed there in the Fall and Winter; and in the summer at one of the more 'tropical' resorts. Please, tell me how wonderful the WL is in the summer. We are staying on the CL and I really want to get excited about staying here again. The WL seems like such a warm and toasty resort that it is hard to imagine it in the summer. I know I am crazy, that why I am asking you guys to help me out!!
