The Wilderness Lodge and Villas FAQ (Part 7) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

I asked Ranger Joe about the geyser today. Although I have not seen it go off, he said it is working. He also said that is computerized now and the eruption is calculated based on weather conditions. I do see steam coming out in the area of the geyser.

On a lighter side, Ranger Joe told me that when the geyser was new, it had a very powerful eruption and went very high. The problem was that water was gettting into rooms, hitting people walking by, etc. The computer now controls the level of the eruption.

Yeah! I hope you get to see it while you are there. Sounds like your trip has been going really well! Have a great time!

The geyser is awesome - I could watch it for hours....which reminds me...I need a stay at WL in a room where I can sit on the balcony and watch that geyser. ;)

Yeah, I actually have not had that pleasure yet. Kind of strange after all this time.

Quick question all,

We are staying in July. Woods view. I requested a 5th floor north side view room. Is this right request to try and get a MK view? Should I have said something else or is a courtyard better for this?

Thanks a lot,
Jim

Does first staying in 1997 count as original? I hope so.

Christine and Brian could not have said it better, Kim:hug:

Jim,

If you requested the North Wing (Woods View) and you're high enough up, you will have a fireworks/CR view. You won't actually have a MK view though. You can also request: "Facing toward MK/high floor."

I hope you get your request, but if you don't, when you check-in, even if your room isn't ready, they can show you on the map where your room is. If it isn't the floor or wing you'd like, just ask if anything else is available.

We are staying at WL for the very first time on our upcoming trip! :woohoo: We are arriving on Saturday, April 30th. My DH is a very big all-around sports fan and, evidently, there is some big UFC fight that night. :confused3 Is there any type of bar/lounge at WL that would be televising such an event? TIA! :thumbsup2

The lounge at WL has one tv. They are happy to change the channel if you are there first. The nachos are great BTW.

He might have better luck at the ESPN zone at the boardwalk.

Hello all. I'm staying at the WL for the first time at the beginning of September. I have never stayed on-site before and my husband-to-be stayed at the Poly once when he was a kid. We are only staying at the WL for two nights before moving to a Marriott off-site. (I have stayed at off-site Marriotts for my last three trips--I do frequent business travel and accumulate tons of Marriott points.)

Here are my two questions:
1) We definitely want to explore the resort and take full advantage of the fun you can have hanging out at the resort--swimming, exploring the grounds, etc. How much time should we allow for this? Take a full day off the parks to hang out at the WL? A half day? We have 8 days in the World, so we have plenty of time for the parks.
2) Do you know if anyone ever gets upgraded just because it's their honeymoon and not because they have already reserved an upgrade? I'm definitely not expecting this...just curious.

Howdy,

1. Since you have 8 days at the parks and only 2 nights at the WL, why not take one full-day as a resort day? Use that day to take the Lodge tour, rent a Sea Raycer or boat, eat at Artist's Point for dinner and if you have time, walk or rent bikes to go over to FTW and check-out the stables or even go horseback riding.

2. I'm not sure what you mean by "already reserved an upgrade." Never expect to get an upgrade - always book the room you can afford and/or the room you really want. Since you're only staying 2 nights and it's your honeymoon, you're more likely to get an upgrade, but again, don't expect one.

Here's a link for a site with more photos and information about what you can do at the Lodge:

Good luck and congratulations!

Thank you, Brian! I had no idea there is an ESPN Zone @ Boardwalk. I've always wanted to check out the Boardwalk, so maybe we'll go there. Again, thank you!

thanks for the info. . .should i call back to change the request to that then? high floor facing the MK?

or keep it as is?

If you've already made your request, I would just leave it as you have it, Jim.

I hope you have a great vacation.

The bus stops were back to the original location on Friday.

We were able to see the geyser erupt in Friday also.

On a whole, our stay at WLV was very enjoyable. The grounds at the WL are very nice. My kids enjoyed the pool. We were pleased with our meals at Whispering Canyon and Roaring Forks. It was so quiet at WLV. Once we were in our room, we never heard a sound.

My only complaint would be the distance from the self park lot to the WLV. I am not sure but some of the self park lost may have been used for valet due to the construction. There were 3 rows for self parking. I returned late one evening and had to park towards the back of the lot. Just for yucks, I counted how many steps it took me to get to my room. It was 806 steps. Based on a gait lenght of 24 inches (my feet were tired) that is over a 1/4 mile. My room was also the very last one in the building, 4563.

I would definately return to WL. If I am ever able to buy into DVC, WLV would be high on the list.
