The Wilderness Lodge and Villas FAQ (Part 7) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY!

Sorry to butt in, but I have a newbie question; we're planning a split stay for the "girls" (DD, DM and myself) 12/11. We have to do part of it at AKL because DM is dying to take DD on the sunrise safari; but we want to split the stay w/ something more convenient to MK and Epcot for MVMCP, etc. We had planned on the Poly, but between the price difference (I'm somewhat careful money wise by nature) and how gorgeous WL looks (I've seen it during the regular year, and love it- but the pics of Christmas look amazing) and being inside if there's inclement weather (easier for DM with some mobility issues and DD who has high functioning autism) I'm wondering if we'd be just as happy at WL- or who knows, maybe even more so? We love the decor, but heard some mixed reviews about roaring forks- is it a pain to get mugs filled? We wouldn't be eating there much, maybe a quick snack and my Diet Coke- cuz, I wouldn't put my family through a day with mama not having that. Is the boat reasonable time wise? As far as I can see, the Poly would be better transport wise and I love the dole whip availability (and Kona cafe, to be honest) but we had a terrible stay there in the 80's wth black mold on the walls and them refusing to move us, so I'm still a little worried that if there was any kind of problem, I'd be really bummed out- and out a fair bit of cash. Plus, you have to go outside for everything, and if it's cold, it would be nice to keep DD cozy after a park day. I asked this on the main resort board at one point, but of course there's a lot of Poly lovers- so I figured it would be worth asking here- will I be happy at WL or will I desperately wish I had monorail access?
(ps, sorry about the rambling)

We're coming on the 21st, so we'll be there your last couple of days :woohoo:

Plan on doing Roaring forks for lunch on the 21st, Disney Quest in the afternoon, and WCC for dinner!

Added your number to my trip info and will try to swing by on the 11th! If anyone is having breakfast at WCC that day, we may run into you :goodvibes

:goodvibes Well, my DH has made good on his promise to do the resort and it is for 12 DAYS:cheer2: He doesn't like Disney, so we will not do the parks most days. I hope that the resort is all I have read about. 28 days and counting!

We saw the white bird, it was very big. I did not have a problem with the aligator being there, probably keeps the pond clear of other nasty critters.

My DH called the rooms controller @WL about 1/2 an hour ago... (side note: I REALLY wanted to make that call because the reservation already has "ground floor" on it as far as requests. I just wanted to make contact to stress that DD1 hyperventilates in elevators) anyways, he said "I'll be the one to call because after all :cool2: I AM a resort manager myself.... yada yada..." Anyways, I was listening popcorn:: and the lady was really nice, but all DH said was we'd love to have a ground floor room "because for some reason, our daughter is very afraid of elevators." :confused3No mention of the hyperventilating! :scared1: Know what's even better? He never said a single thing about his being a resort manager. :rolleyes1

Long story short... WL rooms controller Lois is SO nice :) and she is there now, if anyone needs to call to confirm requests. :thumbsup2

August WL DISers... See you soon!! :grouphug:

I sure did get it. I also gave you my cell number as well. Look forward to meeting you and your husband in a few days. ;)

I look forward to meeting you on the 7th as well. My wife, daughter, and her friend will be meeting. Have a safe trip down, and see ya soon. :goodvibes

One gator is fine, the hundreds in that video are NOT!:scared1:

Last time we stayed at WL there was scaffolding on the roof. This is from last week, must be us...always scaffolding...

At least they got rid of the mess in the loading/unloading entrance area by our second day I think. Not sure what that was all about.

We just left WL on the 28th and there was still scaffolding and still work being done around the main entrance. I was so disappointed, but my husband reminded me that it wouldn't ruin our vacation. I don't know......lol. It was fine. We just didn't go in and out the main entrance very often to avoid it.

There was actually MORE work being done near the entrance when we arrived Thurs the 22nd. It was enclosed and took over at least a lane. That was gone the next day I believe. Other work remained though. There is always something going on at the resorts. I don't let it bother me. Would love a shot of WL one day without the scaffolding though!:upsidedow

We're so excited to stay at WL for our first time in just 2 weeks! I just placed my garden grocer order, which includes Uncrutsables. Can someone tell me how big the freezer compartment is in the in room fridge? Thanks!

I don't mean to rub it in (yes I do), Tomorrow at 7:45 we are on that plane heading to WDW.

As the eternal procrastinator, there is so much I have to get done today; but I'll "git-ur-done." :lmao:
I'm also a bit disapointed, my anti-Lebron James shirt didn't make it in time, dang gone back order.

There is no freezer compartment. But our drinks got so cold one day we turned it down some!

Just wanted to wish...

Hello Fellow WL lovers!!!

:cool1:

I'm bringing my Mom to the WL in a little over a month and so excited. We stayed here last year but pretty much went commando with the parks and trying to get to all of our ADR's.

This time we only got 4 day park passes and did the QSDP so that we could have more time to enjoy the WL.

I'm going to ask at check in about being flag family. We are celebrating Mom's 75th birthday while there and she used to be in the Marines back in the 1950's, so I think (if we get picked for it) that she would appreciate it.

A few questions. Is it a lot of climbing stairs to the roof? She's older but still completely "with it" but does have a vision problem in her right eye. But is fine with someone walking with her. What time in the morning does the flag family event take place?

And a few questions about the WL tour. How long does it last? Is it fun? What days of the week do they do this? And lastly, what time does it start?

Thanks ahead of time. Really appreciate it. Can't wait for this trip! I'm counting down and keep reading these boards, knowing it's just a few weeks away!

Thank you, our plane leaves at 7:50am; it can't come soon enough. I'll see you and the others on the 7th. :thumbsup2

How long will work continue? Is scaffolding still present? Arriving end of Aug.

It was there this past Monday, the 26th, when we checked out. I have no idea how long they are working. May be doing something else by then! It really won't affect your trip at all though. :)
