Wow,

Hotels in the Wisconsins Dells are expensive. DD and her friends are paying $190 a nite for a 2 br unit at an AmeriHost (budget chain) hotel on the outskirts of the town of Wisconsin Dells.

Not only is lodging high, attraction tickets and food at the attractions cost more than similar food at theme parks in Orlando.

Any Wisconsites with some budget tips for us?

The Dells are so pretty. No budget tips, I haven't been there in years and years.

We have lived up here for 3 years and went to the Dells for the first time last Janurary. It is much cheaper if you go during the week when school is in session, which we, and most people, can not do. I get the feeling that they get most of their business from Chicago and they think everyone from Chicago is loaded. Sorry, I don't have any tips for you, but tell them to have fun! We would like to go back in the summer to do outside things.

Like a previous poster said, go midweek. Or go off season. :) We went to the Great Wolf Lodge in the winter a few years back and got amazing rates. They have lots of indoor water park hotels now. :)

Hi everyone,

Yes, the Dells is a beautiful area. Unfortunately, DD and friends are college students with summer jobs and are limited to traveling on summer weekends (sigh).

herc-I was pricing the Dells recently. We can't afford to go to WDW, but I thought maybe we could go to the Dells for a week. I could not belive the prices! I think we will look into going during the winter and using the indoor pools!

Sorry have no budget tips! I hope your daughter has a great time! :)

Thanks Jenn-Lynn.

You might check www.vbro.com about renting a condo in the area.

This would not work for dd's weekend, but it might for you. I saw a couple places that were affordable.

Does their hotel have a water park? If not there are some awesome water parks within the hotels that provide free admission if staying there. We have stayed at Kalahari for $99.00 a night and it was a really great water park. They have indoor and outdoor parks so you don't even need to go offsite and pay for any of the other water parks. We also stayed at Treasure Island which was in the Entertainment Book (not sure if it can be used during summer) and they also had great water rides.

I am just thinking if they can include the price of the attractions in with the price of the hotel they might be able to save some $ that way. I know many of the waterparks run $25.00 or more per day per person so having it included in the hotel price could be a great savings.

If you do some searching on WI Dells in a search engine they have sites that will tell you about a book you can buy just for the Dells that is full of buy one get one free offers that include everything from mini golfing to food. I believe there are gas stations that you can purchase them at.. There is a restaurant there called "Mary's" which has really good hamburgers that was not too terribly priced.

Also, Baraboo is not very far away and you can go there for restaurants that are more reasonably priced.
