The "Why I didn't speak to my sister for a week" trip report *** Now Complete :)

Lmao, I had written the English thing in my post and then erased it , I was not sure if it was poltically correct :rotfl:

I was going to say she writes much better then most of my co-workers!

I wanted to pop in and tell you that yours is one of the best trip reports I've read in a long time! :thumbsup2

Have a wonderful time at the Poly! We were fortunate enough to stay there on our first trip, and it was a delightful experience. I'll send you off with an early "ALOHA!!" (I live in Hawaii). :goodvibes

I haven't read all the comments, so forgive me if you have already explained this - but how do you speak such excellent English? I know that you must have taken English growing up (since Europeans are much better than we Americans about learning languages), and I know you watch American TV . . . but still! You display an impressive mastery of the language, even its more subtle nuances.

I, on the other hand, spent many years in my younger days learning French, and have shamefully forgotten SO much of what I once knew. :guilty:

Bon voyage, and . . . ALOHA!!

Thanks you guys for the support :) :grouphug:

I still have a couple days so I think I may be able to finish this TR before we leave :yay:

The thing that makes me so sad - more than angry - about this trip, is that we never saw it coming. Now with Granny, I knew there was a good chance she wouldn't like Disney. But my sister ??? I mean, she actually knows all the characters. Grumpy and I can barely tell Ariel from Jasmine (they're both the "bra princesses" to us).
After Grumpy & I talked about it for some time we realized that they've lived with no hours and no commitments whatsoever for the past five years. And here we were asking them to wake up at a certain hour every day and follow a schedule. We should have known it wasn't going to work.
One thing it did for sure was explain the mess Jess is in right now. Any little bump in the road - such as the blister - is a major deal for her. Things have to go perfectly smoothly or she just gives up.

But ya know I still luv my sis :) That doesn't mean I don't want to kill her every once in a while - like when she calls me in the middle of the night to discuss CSI when I'm working at 7am. I guess we just get along a lot better when we're far away and there are no expectations.:rolleyes1

I think Jessi would feel so much better about her self if she got a job. Even though she says she's happy not working I'll bet she's not. It just seems like she's stuck and probably doesn't know how to get unstuck!

You are a terrific sister and shouldn't feel at all like the disappointing vacation was your fault.

Hope you and Grumpy have a FAB :jumping1: time at the Poly. Have safe trip. Can't wait to read your next trip report.

PS -- Oh and can you write it before I go to the Poly so I'll know what to expect.:rolleyes1

Just got home from work and checked for an update...:thumbsup2
9:48pm here on the east coast of America.

Look for one of my girlfriend's friends from work while you're there! They're heading out tomorrow morning, and will be staying at the Polynesian!
His name is Bruce, and he's hard to miss. Heavy-set with a big bushy beard and pepper-and-salt bushy hair. And one of the friendliest guys you'll ever meet, the kind of guy we'd expect to strike up a conversation with two nice French women anyway. If you see him, absolutely walk up and say hello! Just tell him you know Jen, one of his favorite co-workers (they work for the State of New York), and her professor boyfriend Chris (that's me). He'd get a giant kick out of it.
If you see him and can remember, tell him you agree, brown is the new green. :goodvibes
He'll be there with his wife Marcia (short with brown hair) and their two kids (one boy, one girl), who stick out in a crowd for the bright blonde color of their hair.
Oh yeah, and they're first-timers!!!!

While you were down in Ft. Laud. did you happen to go to Sawgrass Mills Outlet Mall? I sure wished I had known you were coming down this far we could have gotten together. I live just south of Ft. Laud. and LOVE to shop at Sawgrass...:)
Hope you both have the best trip ever this time and can't wait to hear all about it.

I am LOVING this report - and I will say this. if I was you... I'd now be an only child!!! I think I'd have thrown her off a Disney Mountain on Day 2... but then again, I'm not known for my patience and understanding... :cutie:

The simple fact that you and Grumpy paid for this entire trip, so they could experience Disney, is so generous. The fact that Jessi and Alex bucked you every step of the way is flat out ungrateful. If they had said one or two times, "hey, would you mind if we didn't do that?" it would have been one thing. But how many ADRs did you miss because they were too tired? In my opinion, you and Grumpy suffered the most because you knew what you were missing.

I totally agree!!:thumbsup2

Well, had you not planned, this would be one very boring TR. I can see it now...

Day 1 -
Jess and Alex finally wake around 2 pm. Grumpy and I have been waiting for the knock on the door since 6 am. We order pizza and have it delivered to the room. Time for a nap. They wake up around 8 pm and we order pizza for the room. Time to call it a day.

Day 2 - 14 (See day 1)

Day 15 -
We are riding in the taxi to the airport for our flight home. Jess says she just does not get what is so special about Disney.

Sad ... makes me :lmao: ...but I think so true!

Marina,I also want to encourage you while you are in WDW that if you THINK someone is a DISer please say "hello" or "do you DIS?"...I do it all the time to people wearing lime green...I promise I never have been bitten! :thumbsup2

P.S.S. Just have to add that my parents live in Bear, DE. Add us to the list of Delawarians ;)
I am a lurker on this trip report and am loving it.

I have to add that I grew up in Delaware too, Newark to be exact. My middle school is now a building on the University of Delaware campus.

I just spent the last two hours reading this TR, and I can't wait to see how it ends! My DBF and I travel commando style, and to have to put up with two lazies would drive us crazies!

Hope you and Grumpy have a fantastic trip! Wishing you lots of Pixie Dust.

Hey Marina
I tried to PM you back but it bounced, I'm sure I didn't do it right. oh well nothing important anyway.
Just wanted to say have a wonderful trip and can't wait to hear about your stay at the Poly.

I just wanted to say Have a great trip at the Poly, and thanks so much for the awsome trip report, which I check multiple times a day to see if it has been updated :lmao:
Who's the real winner here!

I was hoping our trips would overlap so we might get a chance to meet you, your a hoot!

Have a great time shopping and at the parks... Hey you do Walmart but what about Target??

I am a Target girl and I keep seeing all this homeage to Wally World!

Thanks Jenna ! I love that so many people read my TR !!!
Got to admit.. I'm a Walmart girl. Kmart too. But I need to buy some cheap clothes (I work in gas station right now, anything that costs less than $20 and can be thrown in the machine 3 times a week will do.) and Walmart has nice clothes in plus sizes. I've been to Target a few times though and it's a good store - then again I love pretty much any American store.I'm the only person in the whole world who can't tell the difference between a screwdriver and a hammer yet can have a ball at Home Depot for five hours.

I wanted to pop in and tell you that yours is one of the best trip reports I've read in a long time! :thumbsup2

Aloha !!! (Picturing Stitch in a luau costume as I say this).
Wow, you live in Hawaii ? I really want to try & go there someday. Must be so beautiful !! Have you lived there all you life ?

My English, well, Grumpy's an English teacher. We've been going to England several times a year since I was an infant. Then growing up I listened to a lot of American/British bands, and, well, gotta understand what they're sayin ya know ? This way you don't think that "Now I lay me down to sleep " is a gothic poem (thank you Metallica). :rotfl:
But I've learned a lot in the past 6-7 years when staying by myself or with friends in the US. I wish I could speak some Spanish but it just won't get it my head. :confused3

I think Jessi would feel so much better about her self if she got a job. Even though she says she's happy not working I'll bet she's not. It just seems like she's stuck and probably doesn't know how to get unstuck!

I could NOT agree more ! But she won't admit that. Even though my jobs kinda sucked lately, I was jobless for several years and I can not even begin to tell you how depressed I was during that time.
Jessi won't work though. There's a supermarket of the same brand that I work at right now a few miles away from where she lives, and I told her if she wants a job there I can get her one (I was very close to my former boss - he would have made it happen). She said she'd "think about it". But never brought it up again. It's not the first time we've tried to help her get jobs, but at some point it gets so frustrating that we had to stop and avoid the subject completly, or we'd never get to talk to her.

He sounds like a lot of fun !!! I'll definitely be looking for him. Just hope it's the right guy and that he doesn't think I'm stalking him or something (unless he's into that :) )

Oh my goodness, Sawgrass is like my own little Heaven. And kind of the reason why we go to Ft Lauderdale. It's an hour and a half by bus from where we usually stay, but we always go at least twice (and often more than that). How lucky you are to be living so close!!

I hope you and Grumpy have a great trip! You both deserve it!:goodvibes

Hope you have a fabulous trip and are granted a prize from year of a million dreams to make up for the last trip! Though your last trip has made for a heck of an entertaining TR!

Great report! Two things:

1. Note to self do not bring annoying lazy sister to WDW! My sister works at least but she and her DH sit and watch TV all the time while he drinks beer. We didn't speak for two months because I was sooo irresponsible as to even suggest we split a cabin in Colorado so our other sister (who is as in love with the TV as the other two slouches) could see the flowering mountians! She is annoyed that I want to spend money making memories with my children..

2. Did you spend a chunk of time (other than WDW) in the US? Your mastry of American English is remarkable! Really, you have the nuances down, and my father in law who came here 50 years ago from the Phillippines and was an English teacher in western Kansas for 26 years inserts some "interesting" phrasing into his sentences (for instance, everything in a car is a "mechanism" and instead of saying my DH is a "good boy" or now "good man", he tells him he is a "good son"). I honestly thought you meant Paris Texas when I saw your location at first! I understand that English is taught as a second language in many countries, but you really seem to have picked up the little things.

Looking foward to more and happy that you have helped me decide never to ask my sister to go anywhere with me!

lol! I thought you meant Paris Texas too at first, then I got confused about the long plane flight and re read things! Yes Marina, your English is better than mine and I only know English! :goodvibes

The more I read of this the happier I am that I don't have a sister. I do have a brother - and while I have never felt the need to take him on vacation with me I have been trying to talk him into going on vacation with my oldest son next year......is that mean??? My brother is single, never married - he is always taking my boys places - movies, wrestling matches, Chicago for the weekend, concerts..... I thought since we were DVC members we could offfer up some lodging if he would like to go to Disney - and we even offered up our oldest (he just turned 19) as a traveling companion. He is interested but unsure (he has all the same health problems I do) I wish they would decide so we could book their rooms.....

I do not know how you did it!! I would have just left her donkey and went off on my own. Hope you have fun this trip! Also, we watch wishes from this spot also, great spot and you are right nobody can stand in front of you and if you want to wait for the masses of people leaving after you are out of the way. Have a great trip!!:cool1:
