The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I'm pretty sure we're still warmer than Michigan. Just sayin'.

I was JUST thinking about something like this this morning while stuck in traffic! I remember just about every church in town had a cookbook that was a compilation of the members' favorite recipes. I was thinking we ought to do this! It crossed my mind that they are saved on these threads, but if they ever clean out the archives, we're in trouble!

I thought about it the other day when I was cleaning out papers and packing. I'd printed out Glynis' pot roast and Kat's Velvet shrimp. If I hadn't printed them I doubt I could find them today with the search like it is.

I'm also one that tears out pages from magazines as I go through. So I have a huge stack of Woman's Day monthly menus and recipes and DIY stuff I've "clipped" over the years that need to be organized and sorted also.

Plus I'd love to pass some on to family and friends that aren't on DIS. (Although right now they think I am a cooking genius, maybe I'd better rethink that!)

Tonight WFD was Ranch pork cutlets, stuffing, and mixed vegetables.

OK, so it's her version of meatloaf!

No, more like hamburgers in gravy rather then on a bun. She makes a regular, meat, bread crumbs, tomato, etc meatloaf which is good. Not sure where she got this from, she has made it since we were little.

I have a hair appt this morning, then Ross has an orthodontist appt (have to check a wire). They boys are taking me out for supper tonight so dinner is Mexican.

Dinner last night was really good. I found pork chops on sale!!! I sprinkled them with salt, lemon pepper, and minced onion, then covered them in a sauce made of 1/4 cup ketchup and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Then I baked them for about 40 minutes at 350 degrees. So good!!!

No idea what's for dinner, yet. I had sick kids yesterday afternoon, so I'm waiting to see who is going to be up to eating today, and who else will fall to the tummy bug that got the kids!

Taking DM out and about today. DH just called and thinks he will have a long day. I was planning on trying the chicken cordon blue recipe. My wonderful guy surprised me with a beautiful Pandora bracelet.

Nancy- When my husband was in the hospital, he boss kept asking him if they had salsbury steak. He was so excited when the did have it, he took a picture to send to his boss. (We were there a long time, the little things got to be exciting!) Anyway, he liked it so much he wanted it for his birthday dinner.

Glynis- Hope everyone is feeling well today.

Add me to the list of people with magazine clippings of recipes "I'm going to try someday." Well I organized them in a hanging file box, and now I'm actually trying them.

We're warming up here too! Well, we will be, it's 18 out now. I'm really looking foward to the 40's though. Of course they said an ocean storm on Sunday, I'm going to ignore that for now.

Has anyone ever been to T-Rex in downtown disney? My kiddo loves dinosaurs and we would really like to take here there and make it my husband's birthday dinner.

We've been. We had friends that went to work there that relocated from Katrina. Not our usual kind of restaurant, but your kiddo should love it! My favorite there is the tuna appetizer and Rick and I usually share the appetizer sampler with the ribs for lunch- it's pretty big.

Last time we were there it was very, very loud though- especially when they do the meteor shower.

We have DH & DS loved it. Food was good and huge portions. We shared an appetizer and I had french onion soup for my entree. DH got his usual burger (huge)! I thought food and service was much better than Rainforest.

Ellen, I never said welcome back from your ski trip. That sounded like a lot of fun. I can't ski. I took lessons, but it was useless. I was OK coming down the hill, it was stopping at the bottom that was the problem!

We did not go to BJ's last night, so I made the croque monsiuers and salad and pears. It was tasty, but I think I like plain old grilled cheese better. The sauce made the top layer of bread a little soggy. Of course, I forgot to upload the photo to flickr, so I will have to show you all later what it looked like.

Not sure wfd yet.

Ellen -- I hope you had a good date night. I'm glad you liked the video.

Marilyn -- I'm glad dinner wasn't meatcakes. I wouldn't like that either. I forgot to tell you that Caili's class has the Ravens (each class picks a team out of a hat the first week of school, and if that team wins the Superbowl, the class gets a party) so she is now rooting for your team.

Robin -- I'm looking forward to tomorrow as well. The paper said maybe 47. And I'm closing my eyes and pretending I didn't read anything about a storm.

Glynis -- I hope everyone is feeling better today.

Dinner was good last night. It was sort of inspired by Robin's egg dish, but I did everything in a skillet and I couldn't resist adding cheese and crumbled bacon to the mushrooms, spinach and eggs. I'm not sure what I am making tonight. The kids chastised me this morning because we are out of all their favorite breakfast foods, so I have to go to the store. Have a good day!
