The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

My favorite eye cream is Eye Hope by Philosophy....It's magic in a bottle!:cool1:

I have a quesdtion for Welby. Nola has been telling her that she wants to pee. She will say Pee and has then squated and peed. Welby bought her one of those little seats to put on the toilet and she will sit on it. Her little Pee successes have stopped. She has said pee ans held herself but she had already gone. Makes sense because she hasn't linked teh sensation to the act. She hates having a diaper on, she fights it now.

Nola is 16 months old. Welby does not want to mess the poor thing up so she wonders if this is too soon to try to train her. I cannot remember what I did and honestly it was probably all wrong and is why I have neurotic kids so I am no help.

Welby asked if any of you have any feedback for her. Should she encourage her, there is no scolding at all. If she puts her on her little seat hpow long should she have her stay there. Should she give her a little toy? A book? Should she wait until she is older adn put diapers back on her?

Which just reminded me that I was supposed to get together with Lori/zipuzee to bring her products! Oh shoot! :guilty:

No worries! I've still using a topical antibiotic to clear up my rosacea attack. I have another week with it so that would fall with the next possible NOLA gathering.

I remember Alex peed in the toilet much earlier than the other end. I think it maybe a little older, but I never used the potty chair or seat. I remember my cousins having a hard time transiting to the toilet. I say let Nola try. Just don't stress, remember using the faucet that helps get things moving too.

The ride home wasn't too bad much better than this morning. We are supposed to get more later.

I thought of a couple other things...my sister puts baby oil on in the shower.

I've been doing that for thirty years and never have had a problem with dry skin. After showering apply baby oil all over and pat yourself dry...amazing!:thumbsup2

Thinking of you all. Got home late and just getting settled. Add me to the list with Lauren, I have two fussy over tired little ones.

Talk in the am...I am exhausted.

I'm happy to report that since starting this healthy eating, Alan has lost 8 pounds. I haven't lost any, but didn't really expect to, since I haven't started exercising, yet. I need to organize my days so that I can fit in a half an hour of walking each day. That's on my to do list for next week. Right now, I'm focusing on the healthy cooking aspect. Alan has been able to do a half hour work out each night while I'm getting the kids to bed, and it's really helping him. I'm so proud of him!!!

That is some crazy stuff! I am getting frustrated with it all. I've been eating better and doing more walking and stuff, and NOTHING is happening. :confused3 I haven't walked much this week, being sick and COLD and all, so maybe next week? :confused3

Mine is wicked dry too! I actually slathered vaseline all over my hands and slept with gloves on last night. It did seem to help a little. I have been using the thick cetaphil cream on my legs and arms, so they are OK, but my face is SO dry, it is ridiculous. One of my coworkers told me that she has been putting vaseline jelly on her face at night because of her dry skin! I think that would make me break out.

I should clarify on the sink thing before you all think I am going to float away  it is not the pipes that are leaking. I think that the grout in the back of the sink wore off and so when water splashes behind the sink some of it drains through the crack down on to the underpart of the sink area. We are talking a couple of drops here, not a flood. Hence the "ignore" thing.

In Denver my skin would get so dry it would crack and bleed, particularly my knuckles. I would use Neosporin as lotion. Vaseline makes an "intensive care" lotion line that is very thick and works pretty well.

Any leaking water makes me cringe. Water looks so innocent but it can be an insidious beast, even in small quantities.

Bethany your scale made me laugh!
Tomorrow with the wind chill we are going to be -20 degrees!

That must be sent from the Evil Emperor Zurg.

Sheryl -- Becky and I were saying the other day how we could never go on a diet in January. The cold weather makes us crave all the foods you can't have when dieting.

Count me in the non-skiing crowd. A lot of our neighbors ski, but the sport has never held much appeal to me. It is expensive, it's cold, it's potentially dangerous (one of my neighbors just tore her ACL skiing), and it requires more equipment than would ever fit in my little car. I figure with the skating, I spend enough time in the cold without adding skiing. That said, I may put Liam in a vacation ski program through the rec center. That way, he could go with a friend if he wanted, but I wouldn't have to ski.

I've been trying to diet this month. Can you believe we get through TWO holidays with lots of food, only to arrive at KING CAKE SEASON?!? Where is a white flag? I give up! :rolleyes1

I just laughed out loud at the image of ski equipment in a little car. I have a little car and got a mental image of me driving around New Orleans with snow ski equipment sticking out of my car.

Yes, since we're going ice skating on Lake Pontchartrain this weekend. :rotfl:

Dinner tonight is seared bay scallops with rice noodles and Asian vegetables. I'll make the kids a piece of steak because scallops are not on the approved foods list.

Laura, I don't know how y'all keep from cooking totally fattening foods all through the winter! I mean I'm craving all BAD things! Bad won out tonight, all though I did make somewhat of effort to lighten it up. I'll post that in a bit.

BBL...I have a fussy baby (the first time ever...he only napped for a hjalf hour and whiny) and helping andrew with school work...

But I had to say...

I LOVE MY MARY KAY SKIN CARE. I also heard it is good to apply lotions as soon as possible after the shower when the skin is still damp.

Sorry that T is feeling whiny. I hope he's not getting sick!

:goodvibes Im glad your happy with your products!

iI think that her realizing that she has to go ( or is going) is quite an achievement already! I would encourage her, but she's going to have to make sure she doesn't start to push it. Nancy, Didn't you have Kady at that age? How did you handle her? Alexis did not get interested that early, but as soon as she showed interest I bought any & everything that might work. She was scared to death of the "big" toilet but loved her little one with the flushing sound.

Whew! If our get-together isn't soon enough just let me know & we'll work it out!:goodvibes

I have used the baby oil on my legs in the shower & that does work great! But heavy oils or creams on the face will cause the pores to clog up & eventually cause breakouts.

Bethany, I thought I had quoted your king cake comment. DH & I had a good laugh over that! :lmao: I guess we forgot to tell you about our eating & weight issues down here! Crawfish season, Shrimp season, oyster season, Thanksgiving, Christmas and of course Mardi Gras Season which means king cake plus eating everything you can before Lent Season starts!! /:hug:

Ann, I'm sorry your kiddos are fussy

Laura, See healthy didn't win!

Coq au vin blanc ( or chicken stew in white wine!!) just doesn't sound as good does it?! and roasted asparagus.

I did use skinless chicken thighs, cut out some of the bacon fat but not all of it. I also served it over whole wheat egg noodles. It was yummy. It was hard not to have the french bread (I bought for Alexis) to sop up the gravy! I chose a glass of chardonnay over bread!

I am getting frustrated with it all. I've been eating better and doing more walking and stuff, and NOTHING is happening.

Don't get frustrated. A lot of times when people lose weight quickly, it is water weight. Fat takes longer to get rid of, and building muscle sometimes offsets that weight loss. Don't worry so much about the weight number as how you look and feel.

I can imagine it would look pretty funny driving around NOLA with a small car loaded with ski equipment.

I have a question for Welby.

Based on my experience, I would drop it for now. Liam expressed an interest in potty training early, but he was not ready, and it was frustrating for both of us. I stopped encouraging, and he stopped asking, and when he was ready, training was very easy. Caili was even easier, but I waited and I think she was closer to three.

I am exhausted.

I hope you get some rest tonight.

Here is a picture of my dinner tonight:

Caili wanted me to post her dinner as well, but the picture didn't come out well. Her Auntie Becky bought her some cool Japanese bowls in Disney, so Caili had steak with teriyaki sauce, rice noodles and Asian vegetables in her bowls. We also all used chopsticks.

Oh gosh, that is just beautiful!

Could be that you are not eating enough. When you burn more then you take in your body start to hold on to what it is getting to protect itself. :thumbsup2

:love:Happy Anniversary Wendie!!!!!!!

Well, it is snowing here again. I am sitting here with a cup of coffee waiting for the washer machine repairman. Kids slept well and so did I but why do I still feel so darn exhautsted.

Not sure what I will make for dinner yet. Not motivated at all.

Good morning. No new snow for us, but FREEZING temperatures! Brrr, it's cold!!!!

Dinner is up in the air until Alan decides whether or not we're going out on a date tonight. If we are, we'll stop for dinner somewhere. If not, I'll have to think about dinner.

Regardless, I think the kids are having mac and cheese.

Got to get the kids up in a couple of minutes for play practice. My bowling starts up again today, too. On my way home, I'll stop by the library to pick up the cookbooks that are on hold for me. A couple of them sounded really good. Hopefully that will help things.

Make it a great day, everyone.

That has never occurred to me. And I was at the library yesterday. I got a book about WDW and when I was leaving, there was a car accident in the parking lot. But never thought about cookbooks. :rotfl:

And I guess I did lose a smidgen, but it sure don't feel like it because my clothes are still quite tight. Can't afford new ones right now so I need it to hurry up! :rolleyes1

Sheryl -- Your chicken looked good!

Good morning. I am off to zumba in a few minutes, but thought I would pop in here quickly. I am planning fish tacos tonight. A new fish market opened in town...can you tell? Have a good day! BBL

Good morning everyone! I am hoping to catch up this weekend because I don't plan on doing too much running around (way too cold). Anyway, I wanted to tell Janice she got me thinking about the Eating Well site. I went on yesterday and found last night's dinner - Baked fish and chips. Cod with a cornflake breading and baked. Kenny said it was wonderful and I could make that once a month if I wanted.

Tonight I have no idea, but Sheryl's coq au vin looks really good.

Good morning everyone! We have some giant snowflakes falling and it's really pretty. We'll see if I still think it's pretty when I go restock the firewood.

Bethany- I know people say not to weigh yourself everyday, but for me it's working (only since monday, but small victories at a time.) Anyway, the wiifit told me I went down .4 pounds since yesterday. Certainly not enough for me to notice, but it helps me realize I'm on the right track. I also love to get cookbooks from the library, especially since I read them like books. We also have a great library system, every town on Cape Cod has it's own library (I have no idea why we need that many) and you can borrow books from any of them. You look through the online catalog and they get sent to your library. I guess that doesn't really pertain to you does it, but I'm sure other libraries in the country do similar things.

Laura- Are the prices at fish markets the same as the grocery store? I usually just get something when I'm grocery shopping. My daughter is really excited about going to the store in Japan to pick out her chopsticks. We were finally brave enough to try thai food and she loves to eat it with the chopsticks. I could spend all day in that store. Hope Caili is enjoying her bowls.

Sheryl- Your chicken looks really good, except for that giant chunk of nasty celery. Looks like a perfect chilly day dinner.

Nancy- My kiddo was a little unique, when it came to potty training. She informed us she would wear underwear when she turned 3. Sure enough, the day after her third birthday she was in undies with no trouble. They all get potty trained eventually, I don't think she should worry.

Steak with sauteed onions for dinner, don't know the sides yet.
