The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Hi, I just have time for a quick post. Sorry for just skimming in. Honestly, I'm exhausted. Emotionally and mentally mostly, with no end in the immediate sight. Sorry for dumping on all of you.

Invert onto serving platter and prick top with a fork. Spoon and brush glaze evenly over top and sides allowing cake to absorb all of the glaze

It's much better if you pour the glaze while the cake is still in the pan. :cloud9:

I have a lot to do this weekend and we are in for some bad weather! :headache: I have a lot I have to do at home but there were some things I have to go out to do and now I have to try and cram them in tomorrow night.

And I have to try and be home by 8:00 because my dear old dad, who I have not talked to in over 10 years is calling to wish me a happy birthday. :upsidedow

I am going to look at the weather as a good thing cause then it will force me to get everything done that I need to. :thumbsup2

As for dad, oy vey! :rotfl:

MARILYN!!!

Happy Birthday Merle!!! XO

Just popping on to say hi. My brother is still out of it, heavily sedated and now has neumonia (sp). I talked to Kat and Nancy today and Maria yesterday...thank you all so much. Each and every one of you WFDers mean so much to me...thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My Mother is doing OK...not driving me crazy yet so my prayers for patience along with all of yours really worked.

Kat, Thanks for posting that recipe! I am going to make that for Xmas too. I just called Patty (my sister who is proudly turning 50 and the one thatn said bring cookies to Xmas) and she said "rum cake is my favorite!". that was good...I would so love to be a cookie baker but just am not.

I will try and get back on later...I have had a cupcake and feeling it so typing is not my friend right now.

Have a great night all!

Oh, WFD...thanksgiving leftovers that were in the freezer.

Wanted to post the coffee I had at Brown Derby, it was delicious!!!

Black Forest Coffee~

Coffee
2 tablespoons cherry brandy
2 tablespoons Godiva liquer
fresh whipped cream

(we will be making it Christmas Eve:santa:)

I had five cards in the mail today! :woohoo: I think the end is in sight for my shopping. I still have a couple of things to get; but I should finish this weekend. Dinner tonight will be chicken and andouille gumbo over rice. Its cold and rainy here.

Maria - that sounds wonderful. I'd fix it tonight but no brandy or godiva liquer in the house. But it will be after my grocery trip on Saturday ;)

Hi, I just have time for a quick post. Sorry for just skimming in. Honestly, I'm exhausted. Emotionally and mentally mostly, with no end in the immediate sight. Sorry for dumping on all of you.

dump away - It might make you feel better.

Thanks, Kathy! I wish you were my neighbor, too!

Got back from the doctor, and he drew a ton of blood. Going to do a full workup! I'm really glad, as I want to make sure there's not another underlying problem. In the meantime, he did give me a new prescription for the iron supplements I'm supposed to be taking. I should get the results of the blood tests on Monday at the latest.

My biggest fear is that it's going to show kidney disease, diabetes, or some kind of thyroid problem. My mom had all 3, so I feel like I'm walking around with a bulls-eye on me. I'm really crossing my fingers that it's the iron.

Hope you are feeling better soon. I hope none of your fears come to pass. Both my parents had thyroid problems, but I've avoided it so far.

Quick fly by here as well. I am just physically drained right now. And then my mom calls all upset b/c she doesn't know what day/time "to do" Christmas. My niece is at her dad's this year which throws a monkey wrench in the plans as well as DH working the 26th. Good times!

My first batch of cards went out Tuesday and the rest went out yesterday. Kathy, got your lovely card yesterday! Thanks!

I wish I had time for a quick nap, but I need to leave for work in a few.

 I hope it all works out.

Maria - That sounds incredible!

It is fabulous!!!!!

So glad you posted that rum cake!!!
I tried to order rum cakes from Bermuda as gifts, they were so delicious but shipping was $60 plus $25 if the TSA inspected then coming into the states.

Glynis, checking to see if your back from the doctor.

Lauren, if you need anything just let me know.

Wendie, thinking of you:hug:. Hope your all ok.

Gretchen, your in my prayers.

Quick Cameron update........she sent us the 3D sonogram & then fell off the face of the earth.

:sad2: I'm so sorry.

Gretchen - Thinking of you, please don't worry about skimming here...ever.

Does anyone have any input on what Marilyn said about glazing it while in the pan. I'm really interested in doing that! Do it while warm?

:headache: :sad1: :sad2: ...my emotions run high reading this, I can't even begin to imagine yours. Luv!

Lauren continued prayers.

Gretchen, :grouphug: no need to worry we are always here.

Ellen, he likes it but it is alot of hard labor. He is doing merchandising for a beverage company. Not sure if it will be something he does for a long time but it came up at the right time to got out of the other crappy company. Right now the holidays are going to be alot of time and work.

Really? You mean poke holes and it'll soak it up from the bottom?

Yes. I made a Kahlua cake once and the glaze soaked into the cake more. And you can do it both ways too. Poke the holes in the bottom and pour the glaze on, reserving some to pour over the top.

Do it while warm?

Shoot, I can't find my recipe to see if I did it warm or waited for the cake to cool. :headache:

Well my birthday dinner is not ready yet. Sitting here on the computer and smell crab legs :lovestruc go upstairs, my DM made her own, she was waiting for the shrimp to thaw before she made mine.

Maria - What she did makes me mad!

I was having leftover spaghetti for dinner. Anabelle stole about half of it. :headache: Naughty little dog, she is!

So today at work I was given a turkey. I have no idea what to do with it. :confused3

Bethany My suggestion is to cook the turkey before eating it.:rotfl2::lmao:

Maria I have no words  I am so sorry she is doing this to you two.:hug:

Kathy I would pour it over a warm cake. It will aid in soaking in the rum.

Marilyn – Hoping you enjoyed your bday dinner!

Bethany – Anabelle isn’t naughty she’s a dog!!!;) Now for the turkey, if Edi cooked a whole chicken before he can do a turkey!

Janice – Thanks for the advice on the cake soaking up the booze, that’s my girl.:rotfl2:

Maria – The more I think on it the madder I get.
