The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I had a rewarding afternoon. I brought 2 prayer shawls I had made to people. One is like a grandma to me she was diagnosed with colon cancer and is having surgery on Wed. The other is someone my mom takes care of that is my moms age and has Parkensin ? spelling sad. Makes me realize how blessed we are.
Have a great day WFD Left over beef roast with rice that has bacon and peas in it.
:grouphug: to all.

So sweet. I never heard of a prayer shawl. That must have felt so good to make them happy. I agree with you about realizing how blessed we are. I hugged my kids so tight last night after seeing a poor little girl who was sick. Sometimes I have such a hard time understand why people have to battle so many things in their lives.

My back is still sore, I just took a pain pill. No where as bad as yesterday.
Thank you all for asking.

Bethany I am assuming you gave your new insurance the certificate showing you had prior coverage. Let me know if you want help dealing with the insurance company. Sometimes you just need to talk the lingo and they will listen.

I'm making a Emeril recipe for the roast chicken it smells so good I may eat it raw.:rotfl2:

Kathy, Saucy beef was very good. The meat was so tender. I think I would have loved it with the full cup of wine!!!!!! What the heck was I thinking!?!?!?!?

I will say that I was disappointed in the behavior of one particular mother, who happens to be chair of one of my committees. For an event that brings in LOTS of visitors and prospect members, she put on quite a scene. I understand being disappointed but yelling at me in front of other people doesn't help anything :confused3

I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I have been hearing so many stories lately about people behaving badly. Some people just have this sense of entitlement, and they completely forget about common decency. It drives me nuts.

Glynis -- I hope you have a great trip! We will be headed to Disney by the time you return.

Maria -- My ticker is a little messed up too. Safe travels tomorrow and I hope you have the vacation you deserve.

Bethany -- Ugh...family and insurance troubles! That's not a good combination. I'm sorry your family's visit wasn't more positive and I hope you are able to get everything worked out with the insurance company.

Ann -- Please go easy with your back. That is not a recurring injury you want to have. You were right to send the headboard back.

Maybe I need a cup of coffee and a chocolate chip cookie. ;)
:thumbsup2 I would do that before eating the raw chicken. ;)

Becky made bay scallops, roasted asparagus, roasted baby potatoes and rosemary rolls for dinner today. It was good. The scallops were so sweet.

This week is going to be crazy busy -- I have to finish the holiday decorating, get packed and get pretty ;) -- but I definitely will check in before we leave.

Well, although they didn't win they played one hell of a game. :cheer2:

Now it's on to the Ravens tomorrow night.

Got to go to Trader Joe's, just spent a frustrating hour hooking up lights, I need shopping therapy. :rolleyes1

Hey y'all

Ann, I'm really sorry that you've hurt your back! I really do "feel" your pain! For me twisting is what usually sets off the back or neck. An anti-inflammatory & muscle relaxers are what my dr recommends & what helps most often for me. Prayers that you feel better real soon!:flower3:

Maria, Still praying & thinking of you!

Everyone else I'm thinking of y'all too! :grouphug:

Bethany, Try not to let your Mom's comments get to you. Since she's a vegetarian, I'm sure she believes she's only giving you good advice. She probably has no idea how it sounded. I know I do that to both Angelina & Chris! I often don't realize how it sounds, luckily they have both learned how to tell me when I sound like a b-aich, without it blowing up into an argument. ;) Now your brother, I have no excuses for hiim! :confused3

Aimee, I hope the party goes much better than the gingerbread house-making!

Laura, Becky's meal sounds sooo yummy! :goodvibes I hope you're able to get everything done & ready for your vacation!! :wizard:

DH & I did some Christmas shopping yesterday, but didn't get much done.

Today, I thawed out a pot roast & gravy (one of the 2, I had cooked for T-day, that was of course too much food) & cooked some brown rice & made salads for lunch. DD & SIL came over for lunch & to watch that gut-wrenching game. I'm fine now but my stomach was a wreck earlier! Angelina helped me put up the tree, I'll wait for Alexis to help me decorate it tomorrow. I have to go buy another lighted garland for the front door, but then I'll be finished with the decorating!

I need some good thoughts, my DM is off this week!!!!!:scared1::scared: She'll be fine till Wednesday then I am in trouble and the drinking of hard liquor will commence! :rotfl:

Dinner was McD's.

I'm glad you had a good time getting rid of the gray but I'm sure Mickey would still love you with gray roots I know I would

Thank you so much:hug:

:grouphug: to all.

You must have felt great after that delivery...what a wonderful gesture, especially this time of year.

Ann, sorry the bed had to be returned. Please be careful with your back:hug:

Janice they signed the contract yesterday!!!! It has a gym, wonder if I will ever see it;). It's 1,000 sq.ft, has a new granite kitchen & has a washer & dryer in the apartment as well as a doorman. Thanks for asking.......I'll be seeing you the end of next month!

Marisa, I will be thinking of you this week with your PT~
I'm still in love with my Keurig, I forgot the site you told me to buy my K-cups on:confused3

Laura, safe travels to you too! Have a wonderful time.:santa:

Sending my friends love & good thoughts....Take care of each other:grouphug:
I will have my cell on.....

Dinner tonight was pork chops, string beans & brussel sprouts. I used all the fresh veggies in the house.

Pick up 4:30 am!!!!!

Yikes! 4:30am is awfully early! Have a great trip!

WTGeaux Saints! Was worried there for a bit!

Still not much cooking this weekend. Saturday I had an 18 mile training run, yes, :scared1: But it's over. And then Emma's 6th birthday was also Saturday. She spent Friday night at my parents. They took her to a pancake breakfast, an arts and crafts show, the Festival of Trees, and the Jingle Bell Jog while I was running and Scott had Matthew at a birthday party. We took her out to lunch; pizza, her choice.

Tonight was leftovers from Friday when I tried to actually cook--but then I ended up being the only one eating. I have pulled 3 new recipes from Everyday Food and FoodNetwork magazines for this week. Will see if I can actually remember how to cook for real!

Gonna go snuggle on the couch and then head to bed. Hard to believe the weekend is over already!

My family came for Thanksgiving and it was rough.

I don't feel well so my filter isn't working as well so I'll just say it - your family sucks. :sad2:

When we were out yesterday something happened to my back.

Oh my, that sounds awful! I'm glad you're a little better today.

I need some good thoughts, my DM is off this week!!!!!:scared1::scared: She'll be fine till Wednesday then I am in trouble and the drinking of hard liquor will commence! :rotfl:

Dinner was McD's.

Pick up 4:30 am!!!!!

When we leave in, we have a 530 am flight  Nothing like starting your vacation exhausted. I hope you have a fabulous trip!!!

. Saturday I had an 18 mile training run, yes, :scared1: But it's over.

Awesome!! :thumbsup2

Busy day; I am really not feeling well so I came home after Sunday lunch and slept until I had to go back for tonight's Messiah Sing. Nausea has set in... but thankfully I see my GI this week. I'm just taking Vicodin and Tylenol :confused3

I am interested in food; ate a bagel today and tonight we ordered pizza so I'm eating a cheese stick. The carbs sound tolerable for whatever reason :confused3

Maria - not sure if you'll see this but I hope you have a great vacation. Try to just put everything else out of your mind and maybe when you get back you'll have a fresh perspective. The apartment in Chicago sounds really nice.

Glynis - I know I missed you - hope you have a great trip as well.

Ann - I hope your back is feeling better. Smart decision to send the bed back, you're right in not wanting to start out with a damaged product.

Vickie - glad DH found a job. The others are right, maybe something more permanant will come of it.

Lauri - I hope you are feeling better and that all goes well with the cyst removal. This area shuts down completely with just a smattering of snow, I'd hate to see what would happen with 12 inches . A lot of things got cancelled "just in case", and since the snow came at night it all worked out. It was gone by the morning, but still fun. We so rarely get snow, usually its spaced out every 4-6 years or so and just last year we had 3-4 inches; so it was exciting to get more

Bob got to try out his christmas present today, an electic smoker. He did beef ribs, pork butt and beef brisket. Yummy!! DS, DD and her boyfriend joined us for dinner so we had the ribs and some of the brisket, with mac and cheese and salad. I sent the rest of the ribs and some brisket and the other leftovers home with Matt for his wife (she was working).

I know I still have a lot to go back and catch up on. I had to work yesterday and it was supposed to be just a few hours and ended up being an eight hour day. We're upgrading our computer servers and ran into several problems, so we'll have our computer techs in the office tomorrow morning to help handle any problems. Hopefully by mid-week things will settle down and I can get caught up. I've just be too tired of computers to spend more time than necessary on them.

Aimee - I hope you start feeling better soon.

Lauri U - Hoping things settle down at work for you. Sounds like the smoker ended up being a great gift!!

WFD - No beans today, we have lots of leftovers from the weekend.bbl.....

Maria, have a great trip!
Bethany, I am sorry about your family making you miserable. At least they are gone now.
Here are some pictures. Goat cheese salad.

Bless your heart!! We also do this in our Church. My Momma got one when she was in the hospital and she never was without it. They really make a difference. How special of you.

 and prayers my friend. It might not be so bad. ;)

I hope work settles down soon. I totally agree on the computers. I also work ALL day on my computer and the last thing I want to do when I get home is sit down at it again.
Doug would be so jealous of Bob's smoker. He wants one so bad but hasn't been able to find one he likes.

Bethany ~ I am so sorry about the troubles with your family. I am an only child and I always wished for a brother or sister. Especially when my parents passed but then I hear about all of the troubles and am glad I don't have to put up with that. I feel so bad for you, but they are home now and you don't have to listen to them. ;)

Ann ~ I hope your back is feeling better this morning. I know the pain also so be careful. When will Luke's bed be delivered now? I would have sent it back also.

Kat ~ What a game!! I was so thinking of you and Sheryl. I yelled and yelled - even Doug. We were so afraid that they weren't going to pull it out. I only wish our game would have ended in a win.

Becky ~ your pictures are wonderful as always. I am going to PM you with some computer/picture help. If I can figure it out I want to start posting some pictures also. I do have another question - When you cook your scallops how do you get the smell out of the house. OMG it stunk for at least 2 days. They were so good so I guess it was worth it, but Oh my!!

Steph ~ Happy Birthday to Emma princess: Good job on the run. :worship:

Aimee ~ I so hope you start feeling better young lady!! You need some relief soon.

That reminds me - KAT - what did the doctor say about why you have been so sick? I must have missed that but I do remember you going on Monday. Right?!

Lauri ~ My prayers and good thoughts are with you on the removal of your cyst.

It is snowing here today and is to get MUCH worse as the day wears on. They are predicting 9 - 12" of the white stuff. I have the next 3 days off so I am going to go to the grocery store tonight and then hunker down at home till Friday. YEA!! My kind of vacation.

WFDT ~ Chicken pot pie, green salad and hot tea. Real warm comfort food.

Make it a great day everyone! I will try to BBL.

Hi all,

DH started the new job today. He called real quick earlier to say hi. He is on the road training with the boss. It seems like a good company and he really likes his boss. Once he is trained however, he will really be on his own most of the time.

DS's bed is suppose to be coming today between 12-4. Fingers crossed we do not have the same issue.

----------

Okay, does anyone color their hair from a box? I can not justify the expense ($100) right now on myself and the grey hair is coming in. So I am thinking of trying it myself...so afraid to end up with orange hair. What brands do you suggest?? I am just looking to keep my hair it's natural brown.

WFD- I took out boneless chicken breast.

Bethany - I meant to post regarding the insurance woes. If you did not have a lapse in coverage, you are exempt from pre-existing condition clauses. however, they are going to DENY DENY DENY all your claims initially until you submit whatever paperwork they want proving you had continous coverage. That is one of the biggest headaches in changing employers, IMO. I had to foot the bill for all my medical expenses for the first month or two of employment until the ins company was satisfied in my coverage and reversed all the charges. Your ISD HR dept should be able to give you contact information for someone in the benefit dept of your ins company that will tell you what paperwork you need from your previous ins company to get it all straightened out.

I'm planning on making chicken corn chowder tonight but DH turned his nose up to having "just soup" for dinner :confused3

Ooooh - I meant to tell y'all!! My mom got to sing 6 feet away from Celine Dion on Friday at the parade taping. She is in the special group that was asked to be on stage with her singing back up :woohoo: Celine is one my FAVORITE artists so I was so jealous. She said she's absolutely stunning in person. We'll have to DVR the parade since we'll be at WDW on Christmas morning and likely won't want to sit inside and watch it there! Hope mom gets a pan over.

Hey y'all,

Dreary, rainy Monday but I'm not complaining our Saints are 12-EAUX!!!

Thanks friends for cheering them on! :grouphug:

Maria, I hope you have a wonderful trip!:wizard:

Glynis, You do the same! :goodvibes

Aimee, I hope you feel better! :wizard: Wow, I don't know how your Mom did it! I would have been stupid with excitement, 6 feet away from Celine! Really cool.

Ann, I hope the bed is right this time! I don't usually color at home, but when I have I used L'Oreal.

Lauri U, What a great gift for Bob & YOU! ;) Sounds yummy! I hope your computer situation gets finished soon.

Becky, YUUUUMMMMM!!! You really have a gift! Your plating & pics are getting better & better! :worship: What 3 things did you roll the goat cheese in? You turn a salad into something fantastic!

Well that's all I can process now. I'm not sure if I'm going to cook today. I still have leftover roast & Angelina brought over some of her 1st "unsupervised" chicken & sausage gumbo. Her MIL makes a great gumbo using a roux mix, that makes it much easier. I've tried it & can never get it to come out as good as her's. Hopefully Angelina has gotten the hang of it. I'd like to learn it & get it right, so much easier than making a roux from scratch.

Hopefully A & I will get the tree decorated this afternoon. Depends on how long homework takes.
