The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Kathy -- How is Kyle doing? Has the situation with Mariah resolved itself?

He's good! As for the Mariah situation I've learned that the less I know the better off I am. I am there for him when he's down and needs to talk but I don't ask questions any more.

Good morning everyone
just wanted to say Sorry I didn't check in I only got out of bed to the bathroom and refill my water. I wish I didn't know what was wrong it seems to make it worse. Sorry to complain.

Hey now, no apology needed. Take care of yourself!

Riley is going for his surgery tomorrow to have his lashes removed so I will be gone all day (the hosp is about an hour away so its silly to go back and forth…T and I will hit the mall).

Poor Riley! I hope the surgery will make a difference for him.

 You need that rest and sleep - we'll still be here when you're better.

Tonight is a Christmas program at church so I don't have to prepare anything :woohoo: We're going to eat here.

It snowed here this morning! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Afternoon Y'all,

I was out early this morning, went to church with A's class.
After that I went shopping. I'm hoping I remembered correctly. Didn't someone say that Nathan's brand hot dogs were very good?? I saw them at the cheapie grocery store & they were $1.50 cheaper than the Hebrew Natls. I usually buy.

Ann, I'm sorry I won't take your place at the gyne. doc!;) Remember I cancelled my appt on Monday! Hate, hate, hate it. I am sorry that you have to go!

Lauri, It's probably the best thing for you to stay in bed! If you didn't know it was pneumonia, you'd probably be running around doing everything & making yourself sicker!

Kathy, What you don't know can't hurt you! Right?;) I do think the less you know the better! :thumbsup2

Lauren, I hope Riley does well with the surgery tomorrow!

Laura, That fundraiser does not sound fun! DD always had a Christmas shopping fair, it was junk but at least it was new junk.

Dinner tonight is leftovers pot pie & soup.

I heard about that. My ex-sil lives in TX too and posted on FB about schools being delayed. Not sure where exactly she is but they got a total of 5 inches. She is from MO so she thinks everyones reaction to it was quite comical. ;)

It is raining here again! I still haven't gotten all of the lights out in the yard yet or the electricity hooked up to the ones that are out there. :sad2:

Dinner tonight will be salmon, polenta cakes and asparagus.

Lauren- I just marinated the pork in a balsamic vinegrette I make. I use it for everything, salad (pasta and lettuce), pork, chicken, steak, and spread on the bread when I make italian subs. In the summer when I'm working I'll portion raw chicken breasts in ziploc bags with the vinegrette and freeze. Put them in the fridge the night before and they are ready to grill when I get home.

Balsamic Vinegrette

1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup olive oil
1 tsp. (about, I don't measure) dijon mustard
2 tsp. (again, about) dried oregano
3-4 garlic cloves, minced
salt and pepper

I blend it with an imersion blender and it doesn't separate.

Aimee- I hope you enjoyed your snow! I went to college in Rhode Island and there a few people from Jamaica, it was so much fun to get to see them enjoying the snow.

Sheryl- I like Nathan's or Hebrew National about the same. We hardly ever eat hotdogs but if we do it needs to be one of those, on homemade hotdog rolls. I think Hebrew National only has seven to a pack. When I lived in NY my mom would buy Sabretts, they were good to but I don't think I've ever seen them in MA. Lots of saurkrout and minced onion, yum.

Kathy- Glad Kyle's doing good, they'll figure it out. It's great he knows he can come to you if he needs you. My parents are so old-fashioned is was pretty difficult to talk the them.

Glynis- Have fun decorating!

Laura- We have the same fair at our school. My husband usually gets a Patriots cup, he always gets something he will actually use. Me on the other hand, I have a lovely purse from the Christmas Tree Shop hanging in my closed.

Ann- The best thing about going to the doctor is being done with it for a year. Hope things go well for Ron, my husband had a job he hated and it really wore him out. His job now is a lot harder but he loves it and the guys he works with are like family to us. I'm making ranch chicken tomorrow with tonights leftovers, I'll post the recipe for you then.

Dinner tonight is a chicken from BJ's (it smelled so good on the ride home), a big salad, and a starch of some sort. Enjoy the rest of the day everyone.

Yep, I've really surprised myself. I used to be so in his business 24/7, I HAD to know where/what/when about everything. But since he's moved away I want our conversations and time together to be enjoyable for him and me as well and I have found the less I know about a lot of things the better I am. I guess you could say I've grown up.;)

I changed dinner plans again last night. I don't know why I bother posting what I think I am going to make in advance. It almost always turns out to be something else. We had oriechette pasta with tomato-sausage sauce, garlic bread, and a big salad. Here's a picture of the pasta:

WFD tonight: not sure. John's at a client dinner and I think I might have to work late too.

Lauri, stay in bed and rest! It's the only way to get over pneumonia. Believe me, I know.
Maria, I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

Hi to everyone else! I read back but my brain is fried right now, it was super busy at work until now.

Dinner tonight is Trader Joe's orange chicken and rice plus a salad.

I think our mild weather is over for now. We are supposed to get snow showers tonight. Watch out Lauri!

Kathy I keep hearing for the women I work with when they reach college less is more.;)

Maria I hope things get better for you

Robin I made your Rosemary roasted nuts for thanksgiving. They were a huge hit.

Ann My doctor is my age. She is a stick and runs marathons  I was talking to her a while ago on how I was having a hard time with my weight. She said it was because I was over 40 and you have to really step up your efforts. I told her I was not going to be running along side of her so forget it. pirate:

Funny thing is...today I went to my OB/GYN. Talk about two Drs with totally diff approaches and bedside manners. They weighed me...So she says well your weight is up a minor amount since delivering the baby. I smiled and said but my post-partum visit was August and I had shorts on then, today was jeans. She chuckled and said well lets just call it even then. :lmao: No further discussion and she weighs about 90lbs soaking wet but is older and wiser than the last wingnut!!!

If you do which one, and do you like it???

She is looking for one of my DBs for Christmas.

I have a Cuisinart- kind of like the first one- but it has two sections that does two different flavors. I like it. It's pretty nice. Looks like 2 of the first one crammed together.
