The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Sheryl- I'm the exact opposite! Once summer hits, I shut down. Anything over 80 and I'm done.

Maria- The last thing in this world I need is more lock and lock! My parents just gave me two huge sets for Christmas. They are sitting on the counter waiting to be washed and then I don't know what to do with them. Two years ago the kids at my daughters lunch table were crushing her snacks that were in a plastic bag, so we tried lock and lock and the little brats couldn't ruin her lunch, but my lock and lock addiction started. I bet I have at least a hundred pieces, I better not count.

My Mystery of the Week is how the heck I lived in the north for so long. This cold is making me grouchy. I don't like having to wear so many clothes just to go outside. Shirt, sweatshirt, coat, blah blah blah. :rotfl:

Lock and lock? The plastic storage things? Our supermarket was giving them away a few months ago! For every $10 you spent there, you got a sticker. You could then exchange the stickers for various Lock and Lock products. I got the gallon pitcher for FREE! (Well, I bought a lot of groceries...:rolleyes1)

I am not feeling better today. I still have the sinus pain and pressure and the earaches. On top of all that, I had a migraine! :headache: My friend works in a pharmacy and said it's usually the 3rd day of this medicine that you really start to feel better. So...I'm hoping that tomorrow I lose the migraine AND feel better in the sinuses!

But....good news on the insurance issue. Not sure if I mentioned it here or not, but the health insurance is denying EVERYTHING - and saying they WILL deny everything until September - and I already owe about $700 in bills. I never had a gap in insurance, so this should not be happening. I've been dealing with this since October, but today I was able to talk with someone else. It sounds like as soon as they get this ONE piece of paper, all the charges should be approved as well as going forward. The NY insurance is supposed to mail me the paper and then I can give it to the insurance here. I'm hoping this finally gets resolved soon - cautiously optimistic!! :yay:

Once I get this insurance thing straightened out, I'm going to try to go to an ENT. I want to know what my allergies are down here and also what options I have to deal with it.

I thought I quoted more but :confused3

Bethany Yeah I am glad you finally got some answers. It does sound like the Cert of coverage was never recieved. :thumbsup2 Keep on them.

Wow, I have never heard of lock & lock and even Bethany has.:lmao:

Sheryl's cajun dust was a hit on my chicken.

The washer is a front loader and about 5 yeats old. The pump went on it $250 later. It wont be fixed till Froday. So tomorrow off the DPs to use their washer and dryer.

Emma got her first regular flu shot today.

Luke went almost a full day in big boy underwear with an accident. I hate potty training.

Yeah for Luke :cheer2:

Ann I got lucky my ex did the potty training, since he worked nights. Alex was easy it took only a couple of days. He did like the mess:rolleyes1

Marilyn - Glad you found your camera!!!

Bethany - Sorry you don't feel any better. I hope tomorrow's dose of the medication does the trick.

I've actually come here this evening to vent to you so I don't scream at my husband. My freezer is acting up again, actually over one-half of the contents are defrosted and ruined. We went through this about 2 months ago and had a repairman in to "fix" it.

Well, Kenny now has the freezer torn apart and is telling me he remembers what the repairman did last time. Nevermind my logic that even if he does remember the magic steps the repairman performed, if it is broken so soon, it wasn't fixed in the first place. :headache:

Do y'all see what I'm saying?!? Spare me from man logic.

Hmmmm, you must have been on Sheryl's "nice" list this year~

Hope Emma is okay after her shot. Poor little girl.

Bethany, glad the insurance issue will be coming to an end:goodvibes

I totally understand. I still have a tv antenae the kind that goes on the roof in my basement. It came down in a storm and my ex put in the basement. Must be so the basement fairies can fix it. WELL I am still waiting! Plus the darned thing is too heavy for me to lift and drag it to the curb pirate:

Gretchen - I know it's not funny but just the fact that he's working on what may be his final resting place is killing me!:rotfl2: Seriously...

Hey y'all, don't worry if I'm not posting much. Extremely bust at work, busiest time of the year for me so it carries over to home. Having cable and garage door opener problems to boot! Good thing Kyle is home until the 19th to be available when the repair folks show up.;)

I was wondering why you haven't been as chatty! :goodvibes

I forgot to tell you all, I found my camera!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:

It was in my work bag, no idea how it ended up in there! Only thing I can think is when I got home I went to put it in to my purse, wasn't paying attention and put it in that bag instead. They were right next to each other on the bench in the hall.

:yay:

:rotfl: That's exactly what I was thinking! :rotfl:

Gretchen - I hope you get a working freezer soon (and that you don't lose any food in the process!)

I had Taco Bueno for lunch so I advocated for something other than Taco Tuesday so we ended up at Red Lobster for faux seafood. Faux or not, it was yummy.

My 2 hours of sleep is catching up on me and I'm starting to fade. I'm surprised I lasted this long, honestly. May go to bed before 10pm tonight!

Umm, Bethany - I got 4 of the large square containers, and the bowl set :rolleyes1

I hope you finally start feeling better. Glad the insurance may be resolved.

I agree with Kathy. Maybe you can "convince" him to check out if its working from the inside.

Gretchen, I don't understand man logic one bit!
OMG, it is just too easy to picture Kenny leaning into the freezer & getting a little shove into it! :rotfl2::rotfl:

Maria, I did not have a naughty & a nice list this year! :rotfl2: Ann must have been hoarding that spice from last year! I really did want to send out some again this year, but I just couldn't get it done.

Ann, I'm glad you liked it!:goodvibes

Nan, I hope Nola isn't getting sick! I can't hardly believe that she is old enough to even think about the potty! How do they grow up so fast??

Bethany, I had 6 pages of those stickers that I kept forgetting at home. Now they aren't doing the promo any longer. Grrr, I'm really annoyed now that I know it's such a hot item.

Marilyn, I'm glad you found you're camera!:goodvibes

Robin, If I didn't do anything when the temps rose above 80, we'd really be in trouble! We could literally freeze this week & have the temps pushing 80 by next week. We rarely see long term cold snaps like we're getting now.

Marilyn I am glad you found the camera. I hate when I lose something which is just about everyday.

I do too! Glad I got the camera back if for no other reason then the pictures I took. There were only a few from her house but I got a really great one of her and a friend, they gave each other purses for Christmas.

Wow, I have never heard of lock & lock and even Bethany has.:lmao:

I haven't either, must be a Southern thing.
:rotfl:

Men, can't live with them and you really can't store them in the freezer!:rotfl:

Got you beat....2 large square containers, 2 bowl sets and a large pitcher...

Good morning!

WFD - Oven bbq ribs, baked beans and mac & cheese.

Good Morning!

Well, I really did want to get back here yesterday but I had another realtor call and want to come so I had to hurry and clean up a bit so that threw off my schedule. I really need to get the garage in a bit a shape. It is a mess in there...I keep throwing stuff in there...mainly boxes from Xmas that need to be broken down for recylcing.

thank you for the prayers and good thoughts for my DB. They took him off the vent yesterday so that is a good sign. I think he is awake but not really doing much.

I have the gyno today. I will bring the kids so A can watch T in the waiting room. I am trying to get it all done. A gets braces tomorrow and then I go to the dentist on Sat. I a dreading that since I hate the dentist and have not been for a while. I have a good feeling I need lots of work. :scared1:

Dinner will be chinese take out.

Have a great day! xo

PS: I love my lock and lock! I get it at walmart here.

Hmmmm, you must have been on Sheryl's "nice" list this year~

Ann, I'm glad you liked it!:goodvibes

Sheryl, I loved it!

Maria, funny you say that. I packed it away last year in error and found it tucked safely away while decorating this year. So I broke it out! :rotfl:

WFd- eating at my parents tonight. DH is going to a PC basketball game. I will be doing some laundry and visiting.

Dinner last night was yummy! I'll post the recipes for the fish and asparagus, if anyone wants them!

Nothing on tap for today. This is a good thing, since I'm having a "that time of the month" headache, and just feel really blah! I'm hoping to squeeze in a nap at some point!

Dinner tonight will be cabbage roll soup. If I feel up to it, I'll make some biscuits to go along with it.

Have a great day, everyone!

Bethany- I hope you are better soon!

Gretchen-the problem is that if he fixes it and it breaks in two months he may thaw out :rolleyes1

Dinner is something with chicken. Buddy is home this afternoon so who knows?

Yay! Robin is posting pictures! :thumbsup2

Aimee -- I hope the insurance gets straightened out soon so you can feel better.

Guess I have a family of drama geeks on my hands!

This is not surprising given your family's involvement in theater. I don't think my family would respond quite so enthusiastically if Liam or Caili developed a sudden interest in theater. I was in quite a few plays and musicals before children, and my family feels like they have paid their dues. Right, Beck? ;)

I could never move from the Deep South!

I'm with Robin. I hate the heat. If it's cold, I can always put on another sweater or make something that takes a long time in the oven, but I hate being hot and I don't like air conditioning.

Some of the Wii games come with extra remotes, so you might be able to get a game plus a remote. I think we have three or four. The kids like to play with their friends.

Marilyn -- I'm glad you found your camera!

Nola was not herself today.

I hope she's not getting sick!

Bethany -- I'm glad the insurance problem is going to be resolved. I hope you're feeling better today.

Wow, I have never heard of lock & lock and even Bethany has.:lmao:
 I've never heard of it either.

Congratulations to Luke! I hope he figures it out quickly. My two were both pretty easy once they were interested in learning.

Spare me from man logic.
 I'm not laughing at you or your frustration. I am laughing because Kenny's gift sure didn't get him out of the freezer for long.

A gets braces tomorrow

I hope he does okay with that. I know I was very uncomfortable for several days after my braces were put on. Good luck today at the doctor and at the dentist Saturday!

Kathy -- I hope things settle down at work soon.

My car is in for repairs today. The good news is that the problem I brought it in for is an easy and inexpensive fix. The bad news is the guy just called me and said I need new front brakes. :headache:

I am planning to make black bean soup for my dinner tonight. The kids will just have breakfast foods because we'll get in late from gymnastics.

Lock and lock...I have never heard of it. Is this some kind of tupperware thing? I am always losing parts of tupperware...I have bins full of lids without boxes and boxes without lids. I think they go hide with the missing socks somewhere.

Gretchen, geez, when it rains, it pours, doesn't it? Sorry about the freezer. I think I have to get a new dishwasher. Mine runs for hours and doesn't clean well. Oh, and my faucet is draining water under my kitchen sink. I am ignoring both of these things for now.

Here are some photos. This is the mustard coated crunchy chicken with shredded ceasar sald from the other night, only took 15 minutes to make. It's like the chicken milanese recipe I have posted, except you coat the chicken in flour, then a mix of mustards, then crumbs, and the dressing is ceasar instead of lemon vinagrette:

And last night's dinner, penne with quick sauteed cherry tomatoes:
