The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

------------------------
I have lost all train of thought.....sorry.....Just got off the phone (26min) with my dad....he just got back from the Oncologist and they are not going to be able to give him any chemo(pill or port form) as his quality of life will deteriorate to the point he would end up in a nursing home. He is feeling like they have given up on him. I hope not, I hope it is more that he is holding his own right now and he is better without, then with, as he is doing ok. He is getting some strength back from the staph infection he had from the chemo port. Please if you could.....a few prayers and good thoughts etc for my Dad....his voice broke my heart:sad1:..........I have my issues with him, but at the end of the day he is still my Daddy.
------------------------------------

It's been another day here! They have been trying for weeks now to get my printer working here at work and even ordered me a brand new one. I think there is some sort of curse on this office! :headache: For some reason I cannot print anything to a non-networked printer. I can go to another office and log in to my database and print but not from this one.

Dinner tonight will be meatloaf and roasted potatoes.

I'm back from my beautification process ;)& errand running.

Lauri D, I did not realize you were having the surgery today! Oh my! Prayers for a good recovery my friend!:flower3:

Ellen, Thanks for the well wishes. I do have to tell you, that I doubt I'll ever be "normal", the dr. did not make any unrealistic promises to me. The surgery was needed because that disc was just gone, I have more that are degenerating. So I'm not surprised or too upset by it, just annoyed.;)

Aimee, I agree BCBS :headache::mad:....;) Prayers that you feel better! :flower3: Do you go to the dr tomorrow?

Laura, Thank Goodness no zhu zhu's asked for!!!

Wendie, I'm sorry you're feeling blue. I wish I had something to do or say that would help. I'm sending hugs & prayers.:flower3:

Lauren, I would not touch a new computer without Bob setting it up first! I'd be totally lost! When will you see Tom? Hopefully you are smarter than I am and Tom could talk you threw it?! Although if y'all are anything like Bob & I that would be a very, very, very bad idea! :rolleyes1

It's really okay not to keep up, just checkin & know that we love you!:goodvibes

Vickie, Are you feeling much better? The numbness with the headache worries me! I've had migraines with dizziness & nausea but never numbness. Is that normal ? or should you head to your friendly British health service provider;)??

Hopefully I will never p*ss off you & Lauren! :scared1: The Braveheart & Jersey Girl vibe ticked off would be very bad! ;)

Ellen, I'm sorry Jay is headed back so soon! I'm so glad you've been able to spend time with him!

Marilyn, I'm sorry about the computer troubles.

I've got to go fix dinner & have a glass of wine. It's 5:00 somewhere right?

Ther snow changed my dinner plans. Leftovers plain. We were shoveling and I have to drive a friend to get his car. I really don't want to go back out but a promise is a promise and it isn't far.

It is turning colder than you know what.;) and the roads better get salted and plowed or I am going to be really mad. pirate: I know I am not scaring anyone. The roads coming home tonight sucked big time.

Stay warm everyone time to get back in the car. :woohoo:

Be careful out there!

It wasn't too bad weather wise here today but it sure poured last night. To get to work I pass over a small river on a short bridge, it sure wasn't a small river today.

Thought I'd share:

Eating Tips for the Holidays.

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday
buffet table knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see
carrots, leave immediately. Go next door where they're serving rum
balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can and quickly. You can't find
it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it has
10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into
an 'eggnog-aholic' or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it! Have one for
me. Have two. It's later than you think.

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole
point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a
volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the
volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim
milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a
sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to
control your eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is
to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello!?!?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and
New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to
do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling
the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of
eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table,
like frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position
yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before
becoming the center of attention. They're like a beautiful pair of
shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple, pumpkin and mincemeat - have a slice
of each. Or, if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one
pumpkin. Always have three. When else do you get to have more than one
dessert -- Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the
mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have
some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the
party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.
Reread tips: Start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

Happy Holidays!

I'm am back from my expedition. It was a much better drive than earlier, but since it will be 4 whole degrees in the morning it will be a fun drive.

Been studying them but now I think I need practice. Practice Practice Practice :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

ETA that I think I need to start with gravy. I will perfect that tip and then move on to cookies and pies. Working my way to cheesecake and eggnog and kalua

Dinner was a mushroom omelet and salad. I am still not packed for Disney, not even started, really.

I doubt that you will see this but I am surprised! You are the one that is always packed early and in one little carry on! Have fun!

Lauri- I missed that you were having surgery too. I am sorry but am wishing you well soon!

Stephanie- I just started my cards and I will be there a while, I am a poky.

Dinner was changed last night. Kady did not feel too good so she refused to eat anything but a Peant bitter sandwich and a few chips so buddy adn i had leftover pasta bake. That was what he wanted and it gave us more time to snuggle up and watch A Dennis the Menace Christmas adn Santa Buddies with Kady. Also saw Prep and Landing. They were all cute.

Kady is here today and I am keeping her home. She is sniffling and has bright pink cheeks. Marisa is in Sturbridge on some sort of work thing. We'll try to have the ham tonight.

Just a check in...we are on the run early today and off to pick up DM.

BBL tonight.

Aimee, Yes the cost of the MRI is a worry, considering Blue Cross is not paying up like they should! Right now we still owe $8600. to the doctor for my surgery!!! The dr was out of network, so we knew it would cost 20% more, but so far they have only paid about 10%!! Yeah it's a mess!

:headache: Oh, I just hate insurance companies. I swear they are like organized crime. Good luck straightening that mess out.

WFDT~Salmon, couscous, asperagus and hot tea

Wow, fish from our admittedly meat and potatoes midwest girl. ;) Is Becky's tofu next? Or would your husband revolt? :lmao:

Oh crap, I just lost my train of thought...and the baby is fussing...I will try to get back on later...I have been having lots of anxiety so please forgive me if I am all over the place. xo to all!

For goodness sakes Lauren! I'd be shocked if you weren't anxious and stressed right now. You have an unbelievable amount on your plate! Don't worry about us. We know you are busy.

I have only read back this page lassies coz Im kindae tired and crabbit.

My migraine was a cracker.

Along with the usually head splittin pain I had Numbness, dizzyness, throwin up and when I could sleep scary, freaky dreams.

Not my best 2 days !!

Vicki, I hope you are feeling better today.

I am not eating today... though it doesn't seem to make much difference with the pain. Tonight is the kids Christmas program so I have to take enough Vicodin to be happy

Aimee, I'm so sorry. Isn't your dr's appointment today? I hope you get some relief soon.

Lauri, like Sheryl, I must have missed that the surgery was yesterday. Prayers for a quick recovery for you.

I feel your pain. Really I do. Our computer "experts" - Tweedledum and Tweedledummer were here AGAIN yesterday working on our system.

It is turning colder than you know what.;) and the roads better get salted and plowed or I am going to be really mad. pirate: I know I am not scaring anyone. The roads coming home tonight sucked big time.

Please be careful Janice. The thought of driving in the snow and ice scares this southern girl to no end.

Eating Tips for the Holidays.

How did I miss the inside out eggroll recipe? Any idea how many threads back it is?

Kady is here today and I am keeping her home. She is sniffling and has bright pink cheeks. Marisa is in Sturbridge on some sort of work thing. We'll try to have the ham tonight.

Enjoy your day with your precious girl. :cloud9:

I couldn't post yesterday because our computer system was down for most of the day again. :rolleyes1 Hopefully we are near the end and I will have uninterrupted computer time soon. Anyway, thinking of all of you.

Tonight's dinner is ham, corn pudding and mashed potatoes with gravy. I know, starch fest, but I need the comfort food. Have a great day everyone and for those of you in the storm path, please be safe.

A quick fly by - I will BBL

Well the outside thermometer says -15 and it is D**n cold in my house this morning. We run our furnace on Propane. No natural gas way out here in the country. Last year we had to put in a new frunace and this one has a safety on it, that when the propane (which is a man made gas) gets to cold and turns to a liquid that it shuts down. Last year our old furnace without this safety feature finally plugged up. Matthew and I were in the house and turned the furnace on an filled the house with Carbon Monoxide. Doug just hapened to come home and realized what happened. Probably saved our lives - actually he did!! Anyway that is why it is on 52 degrees in here this morning - I AM FREEZING!!! We have wind chills of -32 so it will have to warm up a bit before the furnace will run. Oh the joys of living in the country!!

I am off again today and am going to go to Ehan's school to work at their Book Fair. It should be a fun day. Elizabeth and I had planned on doing this together but they are in Kearney getting ready to say goodbye to Jay as he leaves for Iraq at 6am tomorrow morning. So I am on my own today.

WFDT ~ Pesto Tortellini with a vodka sauce and garlic bread

Make it a great day my dear friends and stay warm.
