The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Has anyone talked to Maria on Facebook or by phone today? Just concerned she has not posted. Thinking of you Maria!

Aimee, that pasta sounds good. Was that recipe on an old thread??

Good Afternoon everyone!

Ann- The pasta is good, and really easy. I have the recipe on a scrap of paper, I'll get it for you later.

Aimee- Yup, that's my recipe, well I found it in a magazine anyway. We buy the ranch dressing mix in a big container at BJ's. Not only is it tasty, we also usually have everything in the house to make it.

Glynis- Hope Mary is feeling better soon, I can't what the vasaline must feel like either.

Ellen- Glad Jay was home for thanksgiving. Don't worry about catching up, just jump back in (that's what I always do).

Lauren- I think now's a great time to go through the decorations. We just did that with Halloween. If we neve put it up, there's really no reason to save it. Good luck, do you have any idea what month you'll be moving?

Lauri- Hope your foot is better soon.

Kathy and Sheryl- Hope you'll all enjoyed the game! I was able to sleep through it since my husband wasn't yelling and cheering the whole night, works for me.

Balsamic marinated pork chops, brown rice, and whatever veggie I have in the freezer.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everyone back from Dr. but not the best news.

Also found out I have pneumonia well now I know why I have been feeling ucky and so tired. ot the best day so there is only one way to go from here and that is UP or GET BETTER.

I'm so sorry. I hope you feel better quickly.

Hated her!!! She basically in a round about way made called me Shamu!!!!!!
I have never had a dr. harp on the weight issue so much. I have never been smaller than a size 14. So I am use to hearing this from Drs , it is their job. But my goodness...she was amazing. I think she was about 25 and weighed about 100lbs soaking wet. I think next year I will try another Dr. in the practice.

I think that is a wonderful idea. I know it is their job, but no need to harp. I know I'm overweight. No need to beat me up over it too.

Good luck to Ron for the new job!

Well, Mary has eczema. The doctor says it's the worst case of eczema he's ever seen. He's put her on Prednisone for 5 days. We also have to cover her from neck to toes in Vaseline before bedtime, then put her in footie pajamas to sleep in. After she finishes the Prednisone, she gets to have a steroid cream for 2 weeks.

My youngest niece gets it really bad too. My sister finally had to see a dermatologist who changed her soap, laundry detergent, and lotions. When my niece gets in the tub, she has to play first because you have to rinse her off and immediately get her out once you wash her with soap. I hope Mary's gets better quickly. I know it is miserable.

Ann, I'm very sorry that dr. is a donkey! She's probably very young & naturally a twig. :sad2: I have noticed that female docs are much more likely to comment on weight, exercise & THE SIZE & WEIGHT OF MY PURSE!!! :confused3

I've never had one question the size or weight of my purse. Maybe because they were too preoccupied with my size and weight. ;)

Marisa has her first therapy session today. She is a little scared but now that she knows that she is not doing anything wrong she is better. Kady needed to go to that Dr yesterday, she had a tummy bug and an ear infection. He pediatrician wanted to see her before he gave her anything, he has not let well kids in his office lately. Jake's Mom is a nurse and she would not wear her shoes in my house and I was glad. I did not want anything coming in either. Funny, before this flu thing going around I never would have given it any thought.

I hope therapy goes well for her. I hate that she has so much pain.

Gretchen, Yay! On the all the clearing and planning for the house!

Thanks. Right now we're at the head shaking time when we are comparing some of the contractor bids. The plans call for an upstairs future bonus room and we are debating whether or not we have the $$$ to finish it. One contractor gave us a price of $150K for the bonus room and another gave us a $30K price. However, when you compare the total construction costs without the bonus room, the first guy is cheaper. :confused3 Honestly, my head is swimming right now.

But I did want to let you know Jay FINALLY got home on Wednesday evening. Just in time for Thanksgiving. We took them out for dinner last night. WOW it was so good to be able to see him. I will fill you all in on everything later.

Like Kat said, don't worry about catching up. It's just good to see you! And I'm thrilled that Jay made it home in time for Thanksgiving!

Tonight's dinner is bbq chicken, salad, and rolls.

Thanks, for update. Whole thing just bites! How much are such great people suppose to take? Life just is so darn unfair sometimes.

Gretchen, so excited for both you and Lauren building!

Lauren, I need to do some major purging. I have so many extra thing in the basement from both myself and DH's ex. She did not take much with her due to lack of space. I inherited some nice decorations from her and others not so nice. :rotfl:

Aww, my very long post just disappeared!

Ann, Here's the recipe you requested. I wonder if your DH will eat it? ;)

Nancy, I hope Marisa's therapy today is not too painful!

Ellen, Yay!!! I'm so glad Jay made it back in time for Thanksgiving!:goodvibes

Glynis, A's rash flared up has soon as the heater was turned on. Poor kid, winter & summer (swimming) it gets bad.

Maria, Thinking of you & praying.:flower3:

I working on soup today. (It's rainy & cold here.) I had put the turkey carcass in the freezer until I'd have time to fool with it. I'm not sure what kind of soup it will be yet, I used most of the turkey meat in the potpies.

Sheryl, I am so excited! I may make this for our families Christmas buffet, thanks. To answer your question...NO...first ingredient ruled him right out.:rotfl: He hates cooked spinach.

When he sees the name of the recipe, he might not even let you cook it!

That's a good idea! I always have to buy the little packets.

SAINTS 11-0 Spinach Artichoke Casserole!

Good heavens, that looks delicious!!

 for Maria

Ann – Tell Ron that there’s nothing I’d like better than to meet again in Miami!!;) I did the Oreo truffles last year and everyone loved them!

Ellen – I’m so happy to hear that Jay made it home for Thanksgiving.
bbl, gotta update the OP.......

Maria-

I am so glad that he finally made it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't bother catching up, just jump in when you have a chance!

:thumbsup2 on the cookies. I always bake with butter too, and I've tried a lot of chocolate chip cookie recipes, but I always come back to the one on the bag.

Nancy -- How long are you watching Jake? I hope Marisa's therapy session goes okay and she isn't in too much pain afterward.

I use the one on the bag too. WE like it the best! I use butter as well.

I think I may do this with Jake. His Mom and Dad are friends of Welby and Brian, they live three minutes from me. His Dad was taking him to his sisters which about 40 minutes away but he works close to her home. Now his Mom needs to drive him and that is not working out at all. Way too much driving plus the little guy is gone a long day. He is a cutie but is gynormous! He is going to be a big guy like his daddy but Holy Smokes! He is taller than Nola and weighs more and is only 7 months old! My little Princess is having a tough time though. She was appalled yesterday when I was holding him, tries to be nice a offer a toy but just cannot bring herself to let it go and is not compromising on whose Pa Buddy is :lmao:I had them both this morning for a few hours and was :cheer2: when Welby walked in the door. They got hungry at the same time and I was just getting ready to try to feed them both. Not sure how that would have worked out ;)

She's got such a good attitude about it, though. She never complains until it's raw and bleeding. So, I'm going to have to be the vigilant one!

She really is a good kid :thumbsup2

I just had a salad but craving something sweet...I WILL NOT GIVE IN TO CHOCOLATE!!! :thumbsup2

I have been giving in and it is not good. Today I am tossing it all out!

I have a stock simmering now and will make something one more time with turkey. At least I hope to get something cooked :rotfl:Even my sandwich man is sick of them!

I went to bed before the game ended, but I knew they lost when I found John's jersey AND his hat thrown into the jacuzzi this morning! He cracks me up.

Ellen, I am glad Jay is safely home!

Ladies, the reason why the doctors harp on you about your purse is that carrying a huge heavy purse can throw your spine out of alignment. I actually developed a mild case of scoliosis as a teen and it was because of my purse. My doctor recommended that I switch to a backpack worn on both arms. I eventually self corrected, but I still carry a backpack instead of a purse, unless it's a cocktail type purse.

WFD: I am thinking of making an egg dish I saw recently--it's like eggs benedict but with asparagus instead of canadian bacon. The backup plan is an Asian-style shrimp stirfry.

Hi there! I thought I had posted yesterday, but can't find it so I'm just picking up from where I thought I left off.

Ellen - glad to know that Jay made it home.

Lauri - Pneumonia - yuck. I hope you are feeling better soon. Prayers that the cyst is nothing serious.

Ann - continued prayers and well wishes for your husband and this potential job. :wizard: I hear ya on the new doctor - I have a drs appt next week. I went to this doctor for the 1st time last year and wasn't all that impressed; she did apologize and said she was having a bad day. I'm giving her one more try, but if its the same, I'll switch to someone else in the group.

Kat, DH was disappointed in his Pats...but "he hopes to meet your team again in the Superbowl where it really counts" :lmao:
That's okay - we beat ya once, we can do it again!:rotfl: Actually, my biggest concern at this point in the season will be getting past Minnesota, whom we'll probably have to face in the playoffs.

Glynis - poor Mary! I hope she recovers from this quickly.

Becky - yummy food pics!!

:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Maria - to you; I think I've missed some info but I know this is a very painful and difficult time for you. Know that you are in my prayers and that things have a way of happening when and how you least expect.

Nancy - Good luck to Marisa with her therapy, and I hope Kady is feeling better. I think we've all gotten a bit more "thoughtful" of germs lately. I know I'm really staying away from anyone who might be sick, and am careful about how I open doors and what I touch - then making sure I clean my hands.

Most of our decorating is done. I want to add some more lights to the house; I've been adding a little something each year. We've been in this house 3 years now and its easy to decorate. And since everyone in the neighborhood decorates...

I had wanted to grill last night a bunch of meats and veggies to get us thru the week. Bob didn't "feel like it" so we didn't grill. Then he said this morning (he's home with the dreaded "man" cold) that we'd grill tonight and if he wasn't feeling good, he'd still get it going and I could do the cooking. Well, its raining, in the 40s and downright miserable outside right now and will be worse tonight. So I ain't grilling. Dinner will be either chicken or pork chops cooked inside with veggies, probably roasted in the oven.

I've got a pot full of yummy stock & can't decide what to do with it! Who knew there were so many soup recipes out there?!!

Nancy, Are you taking care of both kids everyday??

Becky, He threw his hat in the jacuzzi??!!! Oh my, he must have been upset!

Lauri, If we can just keep on playing like last night, the Vikings won't be the thorn in our side that they have been. I'm not going worry... yeah right. Who am I kidding?

Two words.....Brett Favre.......

Two words.....Brett Favre.......

I was dreading this coming up......:scared:

Ok...here lies my dilemma.

Wee bit back ground for youse.

I love sports,I always have and Real football is my obsession,I have lost jobs, friends and yes lovers ;) because of it.

My boys and Celtic Football club ( nick name The Bhoys ) are my life...and Im not even sure if thats the right order !!

Now when NFL hit our TV's over here I was hooked but had to pick at team.

So because The Packers played in Green and yellow like the Celtic I picked them.

And added bonus they had Brett Favre!!:love::love::love:

Now I know he bailed but as Im not a real cheese head my heart left with him......

BUT IM MEMBER OF THE WHO DAT NATION NOW !!!

Why is life so complicated !! :confused3:rotfl2:
