The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

I finally understand pot pie!!! The last time I made it, I started from scratch.. no leftovers. Laura had tried to give me her recipe but she always started with leftover chicken & gravy. OMG so much easier!!! Started sauteing some veggies, added gravy & some white wine. Chopped up whatever veggies I had in the house, added them & the turkey. I'll top with a pillsbury pie crust, after I pick up A. I think it's going to be tastier too!

You know, I like pot pie (as long as there are no icky peas in it!) but DH just hates it :confused3

Hi everyone back from Dr. but not the best news.

Aimee- I first felt it about 6 months ago and yes thats why I went to Dr. They think its a cyst hope nothing worse but won't know for sure till it is surgically removed and then biopsied.

Also found out I have pneumonia well now I know why I have been feeling ucky and so tired. ot the best day so there is only one way to go from here and that is UP or GET BETTER.

Oh, I am sorry. You should feel better in a few days with the antibiotics at least. Have you scheduled the removal yet?

It is a shrimp mixture, kind of like what is on shrimp toast, that is wrapped in rice paper, then deep fried. It looks like an old fashioned drawstring purse.

Hmmm. I think I need a picture of this... sounds tasty!

DH got a call this morning from the company he interviewed with. They sent him for his drug test. We are hoping he gets and offer by the end of the week. Please keep him in your prayers. He is so unhappy, he got paged tonight and is ready to throw in the towel and tell them to shove his current job.

Fingers crossed!!

We are having what we think is steak. But it may be pork loin. We can't tell :confused3:laughing: Course the cooking time is very different so we are leaning towards steak and hoping we're right!

Ann - I'm sorry you had such bad luck with the new Dr. I don't think I'd be going back to her.:scared:

Fingers crossed for Ron!!!!!!!

I'm making myself sick over this darn football game. Now Reggie Bush has joined our entire secondary on the sidelines...if only we were healthy.

Well, Mary has eczema. The doctor says it's the worst case of eczema he's ever seen. He's put her on Prednisone for 5 days. We also have to cover her from neck to toes in Vaseline before bedtime, then put her in footie pajamas to sleep in. After she finishes the Prednisone, she gets to have a steroid cream for 2 weeks.

Now, I have to get off my tush and get dinner going. I'm so tired, though, I just want to go to bed! I'm thinking it's going to be an early night tonight!

Ann - I'm so sorry that the doctor was rude! I'm crossing everything I can for Ron!

Sheryl - Hope you start feeling better!

Lauri - Pneumonia!!! What's up with that??? Rest and feel better, my friend!

Kathy - Hope the football treats you well tonight!

Laura and Becky - Same as Kathy! Hope morning comes later than you think it will tomorrow!!!

Vickie - Did the satellite get fixed??? I know Kathy is counting on you for the game tonight!

Talk to y'all later!!!

Augh. I'm having huge Dis issues! This posted twice, sorry.

Glynis - I posted on FB, too, but I am so sorry about Mary. Poor baby.

Glynis - Poor Mary, she must be miserable. I'll keep her in my prayers that this ends soon.

Lauri, feel better!! Pneumonia stinks.

Glynis, poor Mary! Liam used to get bad excema and it turned out that it was an allergy to eggs creating the excema. Laura could tell you more. My brother has the same issues.

Football not going well for the Patriots...I don't care except for John-- would be able to be excited and happy if they won.

Here's dinner, pepper crusted salmon, spinach, baked orzo alfredo:

Okay, so dinner was pork and not steak. Couldn't tell until it was cooked :rotfl: Dh put a rub on there and grilled it - tasty!

This was really easy and yummy. And we might have just eaten the entire dish :rolleyes1

Cheesy Chili Rice

Preheat oven to 450. Butter/spray casserole dish and sprinkle grated parmesan in the bottom. Combine 2 cups hot cooked rice with 1/2 cup sour cream, 4 oz diced green chilis (drained), 1 cup shredded cheddar, salt and pepper to taste. Pour into casserole dish, sprinkle top with grated parmesan and dot with butter. Bake for 20 minutes.

Becky and Laura ~ interested in a quick "hi" while at WDW? Or will your families freak over meeting someone online? Our schedules may not work since we don't overlap much but I'd hate to walk right past you and never know it! Send me a PM if you want.

/
Becky, I'm tryiing very hard to feel bad & be humble, just for John! So I will only say wooohhooooo!!! Believe me that's humble for me!!! Don't let him read my FB posts, he'll never agree to a meet again!!!

Glynis, poor Mary. Hope the prednisone kicks in quickly.

Lauri, feel better! Thank goodness you went to the doctor.

Ann, I have much to say about that doctor. All of it would get me thrown of the Dis. I would change groups.........birds of a feather.

Lauri, I'm sorry you are so sick + the cyst on your foot! That is super tough, I'm sure that all of that is very hard to cope with! I'll be praying more often for you & that these problems are quickly resolved!

Ann, I'm very sorry that dr. is a donkey! She's probably very young & naturally a twig. :sad2: I have noticed that female docs are much more likely to comment on weight, exercise & THE SIZE & WEIGHT OF MY PURSE!!! :confused3

Glynis, I feel so bad for Mary! :sad1: We've struggled with eczema with Alexis. Vaseline was never mentioned by the drs, so I might give that a try. I've found that lots of creams, even those specifically for eczema make her skin burn. I've been using baby oil or vit a & d ointment. Never even thought of vaseline!

Becky, That dinner looks scrumptious!!! :goodvibes

Good Morning! I never got back yesterday, I am watching a little guy and he was confused about where he was for the day. poor baby, he was fine as long as I rocked him but was a little scared when he was put down. I hope he is better today.

Glynis- Oh, poor Mary! I hope that that she is better fast!

Lauri-

Ann- I needed to see the gyn and he offered me a "free diet" Are you kidding? He then tried to make me feel okay about a cancer fear (that I did not have until he tried to make me feel better) but that I could forgive. Calling me fat....not so much. I was more ripped about his calling me fat than scaring me about cancer! I told my PCP about that and she was :confused3, He said that? YEAH!

I think you should get another Dr. In the meantime- :wizard: for your DH!
Becky- I love salmon and that looks amazing!

Aimee- pork? steak? either one sounds good to me!

I hope to make soup today, I got nothing done after Jake got here yesterday so we'll see today

So far I have a lot of my Christmas decorating done. I am planning to finish it today with the exception of the tree. If Buddy carries the box up for me tonight and if Jake gets comfortable today I will do that tomorrow.

Marisa has her first therapy session today. She is a little scared but now that she knows that she is not doing anything wrong she is better. Kady needed to go to that Dr yesterday, she had a tummy bug and an ear infection. He pediatrician wanted to see her before he gave her anything, he has not let well kids in his office lately. Jake's Mom is a nurse and she would not wear her shoes in my house and I was glad. I did not want anything coming in either. Funny, before this flu thing going around I never would have given it any thought.

Good Morning! I have a lot to catch up on...I have been following but just did not have the umph to post.

WHO DAT!

Lauri, I hope you feel better!

Ann, Sorry that you did not like the dr. Good thoughts on the job for Ron.

Gretchen, Yay! On the all the clearing and planning for the house!

Nancy, You're watching another baby? Did I miss that? I hope Marisa does OK today. I am glad that she has been doing OK so far.

Glynis, Sorry Mary has been suffering. I hope the meds help.

Maria, I am so sorry you have to deal with all this crap. You did not send me the email, nor do you have to but if you need to talk, call me anytime. I know you were talking to the Dad again last night...I hope you are OK.

Aimee, Lauri, Becky, Laura...so excited for all of you upcoming trips!

Marilyn, My goodness, you were a marathon shopper on BF. Way to go!

Janice, great job on the shoe shopping! I can understand the boys and their growing feet. I bought Andrew a pair of sneakers for school, packed them away for a couple weeks, and then he started wearing them...and they were too tight. After a while he figured out why...they were 2 different sizes!!! And this unorganized Mom lost the receipt and where we bought them. $80 down the drain.

***
I am sorry that I missed a lot. I will try and get back on later. I really need to get this house in order...I have Xmas stuff all over trying to organize and decorate at the same time. I don't want to move stuff that we do not want at the new house.

I think I am officially done with T'giving food. Last night we had ham, mashed taters, corn and carrots.

Tonight will be chicken parm, pasta and a big salad. I am trying to get on track with eating today so the emphasis on dinner for me will be the salad.

Have a great day all!

Kat, DH was disappointed in his Pats...but "he hopes to meet your team again in the Superbowl where it really counts.":lmao:

Marisa, good luck today!

Glynis, how is Mary today?

Girls, you made me laugh over the whole Dr thing and make me feel better. DH keeps picking on me about it, maybe he has more to love!:rotfl: A couple of you have seen pics of me. I am not a tiny girl, but I am not the size of a barn either! New Dr. for me next year, the search continues.

Maria, hugs and friendship coming your way. I don't know where to start to offer advice, just lots of support.

Aimee, that rice dish sounds great. I can't wait to try it.

Nancy or Sheryl, I forget which one of you made the articoke casserole for Thanksgiving? I was reading the Trader Joe's thread and a couple of people mentioned their frozen articokes...it get me craving your casserole. Please post recipe whenever you have the time. Thanks.

Today we are staying home and doing a little needed cleaning.

WFD- pork cutlets with brown gravy, mac & cheese, and a frozen veg.

Just a story from Thanksgiving...I decide to make Tollhouse cookies for my DB's house. No fancy recipe just one off the bag. Well, my DBs went crazy over them. They declared them as good as DGM use to make. They were the only empty dessert before the night ended. One DB packed a baggie to take with him back to NH. They made me laugh because before each of them took one at diff times they asked me if I used Crisco or butter! I laughed and said why do you all keep asking that. They declared that DSil uses Crisco and they are to crunchy. :lmao: Just my little cooking success story. I brought my leftover pumpkin pie to my parents. DM said it setup great and was delicious. Made me feel good for my first attempt. DH ate my whole pecan pie, no leftovers there so I declare that a success as well.

I am now running over ideas for Christmas baking. I think I may try those Oreo Truffles on a thread.

I would say your pies were a definite hit! Not to mention the cookies. I always bake with butter. It just makes a huge difference in the taste of things! Maybe that's why I look the way I do?

The oreo truffles are TO DIE FOR! Seriously, they are so good, and so easy! The hardest part is the dipping, and as long as you don't mind getting chocolate on your hands, you are good to go! I like to sprinkle my truffles with red and white decorating sugar after dipping them in chocolate. They look like little peppermint candies. So festive! I've also tried them using the mint stuffed oreos. Nice flavor! Enjoy your holiday baking!

Mary hasn't woken up, yet, so I don't know how her skin is today. I've got to get them all up in a few minutes, as they have play practice in an hour. I'll let y'all know how she is. I've got to take Timothy to the doctor for his 1 year check up and shots, and then to the dollar store to get Jacob a gift for the Cub Scout Christmas party today at 4:00. If I have time, I plan to do a trial run on Pioneer Woman's cinnamon rolls. That's what DH and I want to do for our neighbors this Christmas, but I have some tweaking to do on the recipe. I hope I can find the time, as Christmas is fast approaching.

No clue on dinner tonight. I need to wake up a bit more before thinking about that!

Marisa - Good luck with the therapy! You are in my prayers!

Lauren - Good luck with the decorating/purging. Last year I went through the 17 Christmas boxes we had, and I'm now down to 5. Pretty good, huh?

Sheryl - the doctor recommended the vaseline, since it has no fragrance, and wouldn't burn her skin. We'll see how it works!

Good morning all of my wonderful friends. I really missed you all. I hope you all had a GREAT holiday. We got home at 3am Sunday morning.

I am just totally flying by as I am SWAMPED!!!! Year End Conference journal, Monthly Reporter all need to get out and a weeks worth of work on my desk. Sometimes vacatiobns are just not worth it. ;)

But I did want to let you know Jay FINALLY got home on Wednesday evening. Just in time for Thanksgiving. We took them out for dinner last night. WOW it was so good to be able to see him. I will fill you all in on everything later.

I need to catch up - even from the other thread. I am so behind, I hope to have some time soon. But for now please know I pray and think of you all every day.

WFDT ~ Tonight is choir practice so the kids will be home. I have a beef stew in the crockpot and bread in the machine. It should all be fininshed by the time I get home.

Ellen, so glad Jay made it home safely for the holiday. Don't worry about catching up, just join us when you can.

I hope her session goes okay today

:yay::yay::yay: I'm so thankful he finally made it home.

Tonight we're having chicken bacon ranch pasta - Robin, is that your recipe? It's one of the easiest dishes that I almost always have the stuff on hand for. We both love it!

Lauri -- I hope you feel better today.

Ann -- I'm sorry the visit with the dr was so bad. Definitely find someone new for next year! It is stressful enough going to the dr without seeing someone who makes you feel so uncomfortable.
:thumbsup2 on the cookies. I always bake with butter too, and I've tried a lot of chocolate chip cookie recipes, but I always come back to the one on the bag.

Aimee -- I'm glad you figured out what meat you were making!

I'm making myself sick over this darn football game.

You obviously had no need to worry. I kept turning the game off thinking things would turn around, but it just kept getting worse.

Glynis -- I hope Mary is feeling better today. Did the dr have any suggestions on what caused the eczema?

Nancy -- How long are you watching Jake? I hope Marisa's therapy session goes okay and she isn't in too much pain afterward.

Ellen -- I'm so glad Jay made it home in time for Thanksgiving! I hope you are all enjoying your time with him.

Today is our busy afternoon, so dinner is takeout.

The only thing he could think of was the really weird weather we've had this fall/winter. We also got all our ducts cleaned out, so when the furnace kicks on, it really kicks on! It's just sucking all the moisture out of the air.

She's always had really dry skin, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. I just need to be more on top of slathering her with lotion morning and evening. She's got such a good attitude about it, though. She never complains until it's raw and bleeding. So, I'm going to have to be the vigilant one!
