The What's For Dinner Thread - November '09(recipe index in OP)

Oh, I am so glad he's better! Sorry that Mary is now sick, though  I'm grateful you have good friends to bring your crew some yummy food tonight.

Welp, saw the surgeon who was appalled that his staff didn't get me in for 3 weeks. He took a look at my med list and was  that I had to wait. Anyways, it's scheduled for next Wednesday. Sooner than I expected but I'm not going to argue. I have 5 days to get a month's worth of activity scheduled now. February is a busy month! 1 week in the hospital, around 4 weeks out of work total. We'll see if that happens ;)

So glad he realized you really needed help fast! Prayers that you can get it all done beforehand. I know how I felt getting ready for surgery, so I understand the freaking out about getting it all done. I'm sure your church will help you quite a bit, my prayers are with you!

Sorry I haven't posted much just having some more health issues going on. Got parents down in FL so taking care of things up here for them. Working more than usual ect. ect.:flower3:

Lauri, So sorry you are having more troubles. Prayers for you!:flower3:

Aimee, I hope your relieved that you are scheduled.

Glynis, I hope your house continues to recover. What a week!

Lauren, prayers & peace to you.

Lauri, sorry you aren't feeling well.

Dinner tonight was Chicago stuffed pizza...shrimp & cheese & spinach & cheese.

Girl, you know if you DON'T rest that long, you'll get FUSSED AT somethin' FIERCE by some ladies around here!! :lmao::rotfl::laughing: I would bet some of them already have those dates on their calendar to check up on you resting long enough!

I'm glad you've got it scheduled. I hope it gives you the relief you need.

I read through everything but don't remember it all to post. :headache: I went to bed sick last night at 8 but I felt better today.

Good Morning...quick post. I gotta get going here.

Taking my Mom to my sisters and then have to get the place picked up for inspections tomorrow. We are going to Pittsburgh this weekend and then possibly to VT. I know, crazy, but Andrew has been looking forward to going to PA and I just need to get away.

I have not talked to anyone yet this morning about Jim but he was slowing down as of last night. Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts.

Aimee, glad you are scheduled next week.

Lauri, Nice to see you...hope you are feeling better and can relax soon.

I know I miss a lot but my mind is not taking it all in.

Have a good weekend, my friends.

Glynis- I'm so sorry you guys are dealing with so much sickness although I do have to say that is sounds like Mary has an amazingly hight pain threshold. Glad to hear Timothy is on the mend and hopefully you all will be healthy soon!

Aimee- I'm happy you got scheduled sooner. Hopefully in the long run this will bring you so much relief and will be worth the time you took to rest and recover.

Lauri, Hi! Sorry you're not feeling well.

Dinner tonight will be spaghetti with meatballs and roasted broccoli on the side.

And how are you feeling today?

Aimee- for once..................forget the work and take care of you! Get what you can done and the rest will take care of itself. I am so glad you are getting right in, it is criminal how you have felt!

Sorry I haven't posted much just having some more health issues going on. Got parents down in FL so taking care of things up here for them. Working more than usual ect. ect.:flower3:

:grouphug: Are you taking time for you?

Thanks, everyone, for your good wishes for Mary. The doctor asked her when her ears started hurting and she said "2 yesterdays ago." He looked at her ears, then turned to me and said, "Your kids must have a high tolerance for pain." Then he described her drums as bulging and starting to ooze. She really hasn't complained to Alan or me, until last night. Even then, we gave her Motrin, and she didn't say another word until this morning, when she sad her ears "tickled."

Glynis- I had never had an ear infection until a few years ago and like Mary, my eardrums almost burst. It was horrible. My hearing was not right after that and I needed to go to an ENT for him to help. Watch her because she may not recognize that she cannot hear properly. Also, from experience I have found that once kids get ear infections they continue to get them. For Mary you may need to watch how she is behaving. Daniel never complained when he had ear infections. He just got quiet. When that happened I took him tot he Dr and each time his ear was infected. Kady is the same way. Now she knows what it feels like and tells Marisa but for a while they seemed to take her by surprise. I hope your little ones are better soon!

Dinner was sandwiches. Neither one of us was hungry at dinnertime so Buddy asked for grilled ham and cheese. I finally had toast and peanut butter around 9. I have not decided for tonight. Welby has been making BLT's for lunch and that sounds good! Either that or roasted chicken.

I'll check back in soon!

Okay, I'm fixing seared tuna steaks, maybe coated wasabi peas, PW sesame noodles, I'll use soba noodles and some kind of salad or slaw.

YUM that is my kind of dinner! Did you take a picture?

Aimee, I am glad that you got your surgery scheduled. You will feel so much better afterwards.

Glynis, when it rains it pours, huh? Poor Mary! I hope her eardrums don't burst.

WFD: John's coming back from Tokyo today and sent me an email that he wants me to make pizza. So, assuming his plane gets in on time (it is very windy here in Boston, and he also scheduled himself for a short connection in Dallas), we are having pizza.

/
Lauren, continued prayers for Jim. Good lyck with inspection.

Nancy, how is Buddy doing?

Aimee, I was so thrilled to read about your mom and your Dr. moving ahead quickly for you.

Gretchen, continued prayers for those sick kids.

Maria, safe travels...I think you leave Chicago soon if I remember correctly.

Wendie, welcome back. I loved your daily updates!

Ellen, you are a true gem. You kids are very blessed to have you.

Steph, how is your little guy doing?

Lauri, sorry you're not feeling well again. Hugs

Sending love to everyone else. Having a hard time typing with my little toothless wiggler on my lap.

WFD- I was planning leftovers that need to be used but DH wants fish & chips.

I sure do hope he gets in on time! I had cousins who lived in japan for a time and they loved it. I hope that you get to join John on one of these trips.

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. You're right, they never will ask for anything so I'm going to just start doing things and food is one of the easiest ways and probably the most appreciated. Although I might be intimidated at first to start bringing over some of my cooking since he's a professional chef! But I know they'll appreciate it because I would too.

I forget a lot lately but I wanted to come back to you. My Dad was a professional chef and he loved home cooked food. He was a fabulous working chef and his peers would look forward to his turn to host their monthly meeting of the CT Chefs Association. What I remember though is that he would come home and ask for an egg sandwich or something my Mom made. Please do not fret about how your home cooked with love food will taste to your fried who happens to cook for a living. He will not be looking for any flaws, he is going to be savoring whatever you make. Your dishes will be be delicious to him.

I am so sorry that I cannto seem to absorb anything lately. I do rememebr all of my friends who need prayers and positive thoughts though.

Buddy is feeling great! He had no idea that the pain in his arms could be fixed!

Holy moly it's windy out there! We've already had one tree down, but it's away from the house so it's fine. Just what my husband wanted to deal with this weekend. It's a little chilly too, but I'm assuming I'm preaching to the choir.

Becky- It feels like a good pizza night. I got a pizza stone for Christmas, but I still need to season it. I'm really looking foward to playing with it.

Lauren- My thoughts continue to be with Jim and your family.

Maria- I know you're not looking foward to the dentist, but just think, on Tuesday all this will be behind you.

Aimee- I'm so excited for you! I hope you have a nice, relaxing recovery.

Laura- We have never taken the train but we are pretty excited about it. My husband still has a lot of discomfort with his lung and we are concerned how it would be on the plane. Also, we always manage to fly during a snow storm and my stomach can't handle the thought of missing the plane. We were going to drive and rent a car so we didn't put the miles on mine. Turns out the train is cheaper than just renting the car. I figure it will be part of our vacation and the worst that happens is we don't do it again.

Glynis- Hope everyone is comfy this morning and improving. Hope you can sneak a nap it too.

Leftover beef stew from last night or a rotisseree chicken. Have a great day all.

:cool1::cheer2: WooHoo!!! I am so happy that you are going in soon rather than later. Just think of it as the first day of the rest of your life pain free. This could so be your answer to prayer. Now quit worrying about all that NEEDS to be done and do what you can. The rest will take care of it self.

Wendie ~ Welcome home!! I hope you feel that the trip was not too bad. How is Gram doing today? My prayers are with you.

Lauri ~ I hope you start feeling better real soon

Lauren ~ Oh sweetie I am holding you very very close today.

Glynis ~ So good to hear that Mary and Timothy are on the mend. You so need a break as do the kids. Alan is a gem!! A keeper for sure.

Marilyn ~ I absolutly love your stories about your meals that Mom cooks. You are such a good daughter. :lmao:

Sheryl ~ How are you feeling this morning? Your tuna sounds amazing.

Kat ~ Is Kyle coming home this weekend? Matthew is, but he informed me just to change clothes. WHATEVER!! I probably won't see him all weekend, but at least he is happy and having a good time. RIGHT????

Michelle ~ :cutie: I hope you have a good day.

Becky ~ welcome home John!!

Ann ~ fish and chips sound wonderful. Give those darling kidlets a hug for me.

Nancy ~ How is Buddy feeling? You always give the best advise. :thumbsup2

Bethany ~ God Love 'ya girl. You just make me laugh!! I hope you are feeling better today.

Robin ~ Hang on sweetie!! Here is a rope-----------------------)

Another cloudy and gloomy day here. Oh my, Spring can't come soon enough for me. But . . . then I will probably complain about the heat. I can take the cold, way better than the heat. But right now it's the sun I miss.

We have another basketball game tonight so I will be eating there. One of the elementary schools are having a soup supper tonight, so at least it won't be a hot dog or piece of pizza. I love the soup suppers the schools have. It is always home made soup, rolls and pie. Can't get much better than that.

Lauren – Continued prayers for Jim. I hope y’all have a safe trip this weekend and are able to have some fun.

Becky – Hoping John arrives safely and on time for pizza tonight!

Another one scouring the Pioneer Woman site here. I browsed a bit yesterday but hoping to have time today or this weekend to look further. I saw a yummy looking short rib recipe I might try this weekend if I can find some nice ribs.

Off to the gym, then home to clean and hopefully out to dinner tonight, weather permitting. I've been craving PF Chang's.:goodvibes

Lauren, how long will you be in Vermont? Please update before you leave about your brother if you can. Continued prayers.

Bethany your right....Aimee needs to listen to the doctors or there will be lots of trouble!

Wendie, hoping your home safe & sound.

Nan & Robin, my tooth does feel better. Thank you for asking.
Nan, I'm thrilled for Buddy!

Steph, how is your son? Poor guy....Poor Mom, I hope you can get some rest this weekend.

Glynis, praying all is well.

Dinner tonight is a bbq restaurant with some of the dancers & their Moms.....My Mom is here so she will get to meet some people before I leave tomorrow.

Lauren -- Have a safe trip this weekend and good luck with the home inspection.

Nancy -- I'm glad Buddy is doing so well so soon!

Robin -- I think the train could be fun. It will be more relaxing than driving the whole way.

Maria -- I'm glad your tooth is feeling better. Have fun tonight and have a safe trip home!

Ellen -- Hopefully, you get a few more minutes with Matthew than just "hi Mom, bye Mom."

Glynis -- I have to really watch Caili because she is not good about identifying signals in her body. She never complained about her throat being sore when she had strep, and she never says her ears hurt when she has an ear infection. Now, if she has a fever, I just call the doctor. Also, ever since her double ear infection, her ears have been very sensitive to loud noise. I don't know if you will find that with Mary as well.

It is really cold and windy here. I am not looking forward to the ice rink this afternoon. I am craving Indian food, but I think I might make soup and just come home after skating.

Oh not to worry. I will get a hug and a "Here's my wash - Love ya, see ya Sunday!!" Gotta love 'em. And I really don't care, I am just so happy that he is happy. For many weeks he would be home and never leave the house.

Stay warm tonight.

.

Several years ago I took the Auto Train with my Sis IL and had a blast. I am not sure I would do that again but I am sure I would take a train. WE had a good trip and the train travel was part of teh vacation for us.

I agree, having your boy home and happy is the best!

Have a great time at the supper, sounds so good!

I thought about you, Samantha Brown was on and her weekend was in Chicago!

Safe travels!

Kady's Dr wants a call whenever she runs a fever too. SHe is like me and her base temp is low so he told Marisa what he feels is a temp for her and so far whenever she runs a fever something is wrong.
SHe very seldom recognizes specific signs.

It is WINDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! here! And COLD! Buddy has not built a fire this week but I hope he does today.

It's rainy and cold here, but nothing is freezing it seems. I am going to make chicken and sausage gumbo for dinner tonight. I've never made it before but I found a recipe in Southern Living that looks tasty and easy.

Well Ladies, I am heading home. I will try to get back on from home. But I won't guarantee anything. :rolleyes1

Elizabeth called the warranty people on her laptop and it is still under warranty. :cool1: They are having her send it in and they are putting in a new hard drive and making sure it is all ok. She should probably have her's back in 2 weeks. :woohoo:

You all have a good weekend and if there is anything I need to know there are a few of you with my number - Please call me.

Love and prayers to all who need it.
