The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

A quick check-in. The Ark just pulled up we should be boarding soon. :rotfl2:

We have had back to back thunderstorms since last night. Right now it looks like midnight :scared1:

Sheryl Kathy Let me know how much rain you want.

I better end in case we lose power. I'll check in later. Don't worry

I have just a few little things left to pack and I am all ready here too. I am taking two small suitcases, one I am taking with me and one that my DM is taking with her on the Auto train.

Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!

Aimee, 3 hrs at Walmart would put me over the edge. I am a Target girl.

Man, me too. We actually went from Walmart across the street to Target and WOW, what a difference! It's amazing. Sadly, Target is just not a full replacement for Walmart - esp when buying random items for VBS. I can get almost the entire list bought at Walmart between their automotive, garden center, food, fabric, crafts, sporting goods, etc.

I WILL say that Walmart boasts itself as the lowest prices but it is NOT. Target was the same price or cheaper on items they both carried.

Kyle has an official "moving date"....8/15....:sad1:

Dad went to Dr. yesterday. They are putting him on steroids for a week, and have him come back in next week. They think it might be his back and not the hip now. They want him to have an MRI but he has had trouble being able to do it in the past. I don't even think he was able to make it in the open MRI. I am hoping he can get through it, if not maybe they can drug him. Hoping the steroids help.

Augh, poor DH and poor expectant momma!! I hope they work, too. This is not the time for him to be laid up as well!

If I believed I would feel good all the time after surgery, I wouldnt have any 2nd thoughts! But from what my dr has told me, I will always have a bad neck, bad back, bad spine. He has already told me to not expect total pain relief or even less numbness. He wants to do the surgery to stop the nerve damage. Feeling good now with the injection makes me wonder if a year of rehab is worth it.

Oooh, yeah, I can understand your hesitation.

What the heck is up with y'alls weather? Is that normal for this time of year?

I am at work trying to get all my ducks in a row. We have to drive to College Station tomorrow for a wedding - it's a 3.5 hour drive each way and we have to make it there and back in one day due to my work schedule. :sad2:

My dad is house/dog sitting for us and he'll be here tomorrow morning SO tonight I am cleaning the entire house. Last night, after my day long shopping adventure, I was too wiped to do much. You would think since DH is unemployed and at home that some of this would get done while I'm at work :rolleyes1

I'm making Chili Rice for dinner - from the latest Family Circle, it's a Guy Freiri? recipe. Sounds easy enough.

What are your plans for Fathers Day on Sunday? Is that a big day for y'all, or more lowkey? Since my dad is going to be at my house already, he'll come to church with us - help me pick up the vans for camp - and I'm taking him to dinner at his choice (Carinos). I'm also inviting my grandaddy and his sweetheart to join us, and my brother may come. DH is going to see his dad that night. My dad is moving into a small apt he thinks he can afford for now so I bought him a microwave, since my brother owns the one they use now.

Make sure it stops here for us too!

What the heck is up with y'alls weather? Is that normal for this time of year?

No, it is not normal. I can't remember ever having to turn my heat back on in June, and while some Junes can be rainy, this has been ridiculous! Like Janice, I would gladly send some of it your way!

ETA: Have fun at the wedding, Aimee! It sounds like you have nice plans for Father's Day. Enjoy it. We will go to my parents' house like we usually do on Sundays, so pretty low-key for us.

We have conflicting reports on the status of Liam's game. I just got an email from his coach saying that they are playing, but the league website says minor league games are canceled. :confused3 I really hope they aren't playing. I can't even imagine the amount of mud I would have to try to get out of Liam's uniform after playing in this weather.

In either case, I have changed tonight's menu because we were invited to a pizza party tomorrow evening. Now we're having our Friday fish fry.

Marilyn, I hope you manage to get it all done! Have a great time!

My big project is almost done, it would have been all done but I was missing one set of papers I needed :headache:, but it will only take about 15-20 minutes to finish. I was running around the office handing piles of papers to people telling them to fold and stuff! :rotfl:

Marilyn -- I'm sorry about your camera. That really stinks right before vacation.

Yes it does but thankfully I found out before I left rather then when I tried to take the first picture.

And take heart, it is sunny and mild here today, hopefully it will travel it's way up to you.

 And they should drug him. My sister took Ativan and was able to get through one they did on her head a couple of years ago, she was having a lot of migraines. She called me on her way home from the diagnostic place and was VERY happy telling me I needed to get myself some of this. :rotfl:

Oh well, finished with lunch, back to the pile.

Augh, poor DH and poor expectant momma!! I hope they work, too. This is not the time for him to be laid up as well!

It is my Dad...boy, would it be real bad timing if it were my DH. ;)

Sheryl, I just reread Maria's post from this morning and it mentions Nancy going to NYC for the weekend. Mystery solved!!!:)
-----

Maria, left me a voicemail to check in around 1:00 today. She said she was taking the laptop and will be able to check-in. Maria, I am not returning your call untill the time comes. You have a long travelling day ahead of you, thanks for the call!!! DS and I were passed out enjoying an afternoon nap in this miserable weather.

Aimee This is definitely not usual weather for us. This has been the coolest wettest spring since the early 1900's and no I was not around for that :rotfl2:. The news had a weather question about this.

It has stopped raining for now but we are supposed to get round 111 later tonight.:sad2: At Ohare they got 3.63 inches of rain this morning that is our normal amount for the entire month.

Laura make sure you are packed when we swing by.;)

Not sure yet if I will try to grill chicken breasts or cook them inside

No thanks - you can keep it!

Next week it will be sunny and HOT at camp, and while it stinks to be so hot, I've done camp during a week of rain and the cabin smells like a boys locker room. So gross!

It is my Dad...boy, would it be real bad timing if it were my DH. ;)

Ooops! Wow, my reading comprehension is just great, isn't it?

Yikes! Are y'all dealing with any flash flooding?

Day 4:

Monday morning came awfully early! Disneyland was scheduled to open at 8:00, so we wanted to be in line at the gate by 7:30 at the latest! Today was the day we were all going to wear our identical shirts for a group picture (I had them made by someone on the DIS boards, and I thought they turned out well!). We had sent Jacob to sleep with his cousin Shaun, so I had to round him up, get the girls up and going, and get the baby up, dressed and fed. We were all ready to go by 7:00, so we headed up to the breakfast patio. It was another cloudy, gray day, and we were all a little chilly. The kids enjoyed the breakfast of Fruit Loops, bagels, donuts and fresh fruit. We stocked up on apples to take into the park, and pretty soon, we were crossing the street to the Plaza.

We made the obligatory stop at security to show we were not carrying in weapons or glass bottles, and soon we were waiting in a very short line in front of the turnstiles. We were pleasantly surprised at the low numbers waiting with us! We hoped that the low crowds would be an indication of how things would go during the rest of the week.

As we stood in line, we made our game plan. Since most people tend to go right, we decided that we would head left under the train station, and make our way to Adventureland and Indiana Jones! This would be the twins first time to ride this, and they were excited and nervous at the same time. Jacob has been talking up this ride for the last 2 years, so they didn’t really know what to think. At 8:00 on the dot, we were allowed through the turnstiles, and hustled to Adventureland. It was EMPTY! We raced on Indiana Jones with absolutely no wait at all. We were stopped in the projection room, and that was a bad thing. That gave the twins a chance to re-think going on this ride. Before we actually boarded our vehicles, they were both crying. Alan and I placed them between us, and off we headed into the Temple! At the end of the ride, they both agreed that it wasn’t as bad as they had feared it would be.

Next up was a cruise on the Jungle Cruise ride. Again, no wait! We had the funniest Skipper that I’ve ever heard! I don’t know if it was because it was early in the morning, but he was in a good mood, and that made his jokes funnier. Once off the boat, we headed to Pirates of the Caribbean. This ride made me a bit sad, thinking of Mom. This was her all time favorite ride. It was kind of sad to sit in the dark, watching the fireflies and thinking about how much fun she would be having. Still, it is a fabulous ride, and you can’t stay sad on it for long! There were 25 of us in the group, and we all fit on one boat. It was fun to be with family during this ride.

Next up, was the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We all love this ride! I couldn’t believe that we were walking on all big-ticket rides on the left side of the park! I’d never seen the park this empty. It was so nice being with such a big group, because there was always someone willing to stay off to watch the baby so both Alan and I could enjoy the rides. Big Thunder Mountain is one of my favorites, and I really enjoyed it this time, listening to Leslie and Mary scream with delight!

Next up was the Haunted Mansion. Again, one of mom’s favorites. Still, no waiting! Here it was 9:30 in the morning and we’d done all these rides! I rode in a Doom Buggy with Jacob and my nephew Shaun. They knew that I wouldn’t try to scare them like their dads would. It was funny to watch them. When Jacob got scared, he’d bury his head in my arm, and Shaun kept his hands over his ears the entire time.

We made a very unpleasant discovery after this ride. Timothy had a severe blow out! It was awful! I had been in such a rush that I didn’t pack an extra outfit for him, either. So, I took him to the bathroom to clean him up as best as I could, while Alan took the kids on Splash Mountain. Again, no waiting! I got Timothy cleaned up, but he was going to need a new outfit soon!

Once everyone got off the mountain, we decided to head for Fantasyland. We would make a stop in front of the castle to get our group picture done. Then, I would take Timothy back to the hotel to change his outfit and feed him well. We had our first wait of the day for the Photopass photographer. There were 2 groups ahead of us. While we waited, the kids sat on the drawbridge wall, spread their maps out and planned out what they wanted to do next. It was so cute! Eventually, we got our group photo taken, and it turned out quite well. I said good-bye to the crew, and headed out of the park.

While I was at the hotel, Alan and the rest of the crew decided against Fantasyland, and went to try their luck in Tomorrowland. They grabbed some Fastpasses for Star Tours, and managed to get rides on Space Mountain and Honey I Shrunk the Audience. I contacted them on my way back into the park, and they were just going in to Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters. I waited for them at the exit, and then went on Star Tours with them. Once done with that, the Fast Passes for Space Mountain were ready to be used. I went on that with Leslie. It was a fun ride, but I’ve noticed that the older I get, the louder that ride gets! I came off with a nasty headache!

By now, everyone was hungry. We all headed back to the hotel for sandwiches and a dip in the pool. While the day had started out overcast, the sun had burned through, and it turned into a nice, toasty day! The pool felt quite good!

After a break of a couple of hours, we were ready to head back into the parks. We knew, from experience, that Disneyland would be more crowded at this time, so we headed into Disney’s California Adventure. Some people really don’t like this park, but we have found a lot of fun things to do here! We sent my BIL running for Fast Passes for Soarin’ Over California (a family favorite), and then we headed to Paradise Pier to try our luck on California Screamin’. This is hands down the best roller coaster in the history of roller coasters! We were in luck as the wait time was only 10 minutes. This was to be Jacob’s first trip on the coaster, and he chose me as his partner. As we made our way through the line, he got quieter and quieter, and gripped my hand more tightly. Once we were in our seats, however, he relaxed as he saw how tightly he was latched in. Soon we were blasted off, and it was incredible! Jacob loved it! He giggled the whole time! Once it was over, he decided he had to do it again. Of course, Alan was happy to do that! While we were on the coaster, my sister took the twins and her daughter on the carousel, while Grandpa watched Timothy. Luckily, the 2 rides are side by side, so we could keep tabs on each other.

We had hoped for a ride on Toy Story Midway Mania, but the line was over an hour long! Instead, we headed to Soarin’ by way of Grizzly River Run! The wait time for Grizzly was only 10 minutes, so a whole bunch of the group took a ride on the river. They came off, and immediately went on for another ride. Can I just say that my husband would be happy to just ride this ride over and over all day long? He can’t get enough of it! We finally made it to Soarin’, and wouldn’t you know it? Timothy needed to be fed! He had been so good all day long, and I really didn’t want to experience a meltdown on our first day there, so I stayed off the ride and nursed the baby. I was sad to miss out on it, but what are you going to do? I can’t wait for the day when Timothy is tall enough to go on all these rides, too!

DCA closes earlier than Disneyland, and by the time the Soarin’ crowd came off the ride, it was time to think about what to do next. My little family decided to make an early night of it and head back to the hotel for dinner and bed. Technically, my kids go to bed at 8:30, and it was now close to 8:00. We had early entry the next morning, so we wanted the kids to be happy for that. No reason to exhaust the kids by going till closing each night, right? So, back to the hotel we went for a dinner of quesadillas. The kids got into their jammies and settled into bed. Jacob was having a “sleep over” with his cousin Shaun, so it was jut the girls, Alan, Timothy and me. Timothy took a bottle, and went right out! He was tired! The girls were all set to watch some Disney channel, but by the time I had my teeth brushed, they were all 3 out like lights. Alan and I watched some TV, but quickly decided that sleep was very appealing to us, as well. It was lights out for the Neves family by 10:00 p.m.

A quick check-in. The Ark just pulled up we should be boarding soon. :rotfl2:

Sheryl Kathy Let me know how much rain you want.

I better end in case we lose power. I'll check in later. Don't worry

:lmao: Gosh I hear you. My neighborhood has poor drainage...the drains are not at the low spots in the street, so there will be a huge puddle right next to a drain...what do they expect the water to climb out of the low spot to drain out? :confused3

That system is headed our way. We have a flood watch for tomorrow. We could get over two inches.

I don't usually mind the rain...but take a look at what it's doing in my apartment:

This is the one that is leaking. TS Hanna put a hole here in Sept and they put the board over it. You can see it's come through and around the board. All the caulk is coming off. :headache: I'm not sure how much more water this wall can take. :scared:

Glynis -- The pictures are so cute! You almost have a blue brigade (Greg would certainly correct me on accuracy, but you know what I mean.)

Bethany -- I would be irritated by that water damage, and I might be concerned if you were living there for more than a couple of weeks, but since you are moving out soon, I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure you get your security deposit back.

Liam's game was canceled tonight. He plays tomorrow afternoon at 4. Hopefully.

WOW, y'all have been so chatty today! Going to try and catch up. Glynis - I'm going to read your TR update a bit later. LOVE what you've posted so far, you are an excellent writer!

Checking in as requested!!!! Still here, nothing happening. Staying home resting and lounging with Luke.
Dad went to Dr. yesterday. They are putting him on steroids for a week, and have him come back in next week. They think it might be his back and not the hip now. They want him to have an MRI but he has had trouble being able to do it in the past. I don't even think he was able to make it in the open MRI. Continued prayers for Dad. Thinking of you!!!!!!!

No Sheryl I have it done on 7/9 They have to put me out and use ultra sound guided to do it.

Will be thinking of you.

Glad it was canceled, it would have been a huge mess.:scared:

Bethany - I'm SO GLAD you're "out of there" soon.

Not yet...June 23 :goodvibes
I was a day early with DS, so I was hoping to go a bit early with Emma too.

There is still time. I remember those last days :scared: I never really had to wait with Alex. Which was a good thing cause I think I would still be pregnant. He is soooo slow just like his father. :rotfl2:

I am still here. We haven't floated away yet. We had another round of weather last night. I orginally thought I could grill inbetween but it moved in too fast.

Hershey is running around today, he seems happy with the no rain today.

Ann I hope they find a way to control your dads pain.

Aimee I forgot to say before. I am glad your granddad is somewhere safe and that he like it:hug: It is hard to see them. But he is living the way he wants. In time he may or may not join in a small group. Some people like to be loners.

Vickie How are you and the boy feeling these days. I hope your husband has recovered also "man flu" is soo deadly :rolleyes1

Glynis Timothy is getting so big  I love the picture of your kids and their grandpa. I brings a smile and tears.

Bethany how many more days? You need to kick in to highgear and get out of that apartment. Before it falls down. I wish I was there to help out.

I was a day early with DS, so I was hoping to go a bit early with Emma too.

I hope your wee scone appears soon sweetie.

I was two weeks over with the boy.

They took me in to induce me because nothing was happening, his head was not even engaged.

But what ever they did worked...my labour was 20 minutes !!

Vickie How are you and the boy feeling these days. I hope your husband has recovered also "man flu" is soo deadly :rolleyes1

The boy is back to his best but I did a silly thing and hurt myself.

The boy hurt his ankle playing football and my natural reaction was to pick him up....bad move.

Sudden pain and still very sore today.

Also very mad at my own stupidity.

DH has fought like a little soldier and can now make it out of bed....and as luck would have it there is a big Rugby match he wants to watch today !!

Funny that eh...

I cant believe the rain youse guys are having,I though Scotland was bad.

Keep paddling.

Ann - Emma seems quite content.:goodvibes

Glynis - I'm thoroughly enjoying your TR. The pics of the kids with grandad had me teary eyed.

WFD - Grilled tuna over arugula with gorgonzola and walnuts and artichoke bruschetta.

Hopefully the rain will subside for you guys who are water logged and maybe we could get a drop down here.

Have a great Saturday everyone!
