The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

I'm so mad! The pork chops I bought day before yesterday were bad! The package had a sell by date of 5/23. I didn't freeze them, but my garage fridge was so cold they were partially frozen when I took them out. I'm going bring them back & I DON'T want anymore meat from there!

Dinner is now going to be brats & sauerkraut.

Kat, You sure know how to pick restaurants! I want to go to all of those! :goodvibes

Bob called another agency. This person was honest & said that the troubles we were having "Was the nature of the beast", meaning the type of people they have to draw from. She also said that she would also have trouble finding a steady person for a short shift evening work. She said she couldn't offer much hope that she would get anything better. Her suggestion was if the aide we have now totally bails that she could get us some help, but it would be scattered & probably a different person everytime. She said for the surgery & daily assistance she could take care of that. :confused3 So we are just going to wait again tonight to see if she comes or not. Thank God this has happened before my surgery.

What a nightmare.

I was out of town most of the day at a meeting so I skipped going to the office. That was nice!

Tonight we were going to have gouda and spinach stuffed chicken but we decided to go out instead with our B1G1 free coupons. Either mexican or BBQ.

Well, I couldn't say anything prior but part of my stress/life/work has been busy preparing for a new pastor. His name will be released on Sunday and he'll be preaching/have the vote on May 30. I have met with him already and am pleased with their choice. So, the next two weeks are NUTS but it's nice that the church finally knows so I don't have to keep lying

Bethany please keep on resting:sick:
**I could meet Nancy & Marisa in Westchester & then we could drive into NYC together. Lauren could come with me or meet us in Manhattan.

And what are we going to do in Manhattan? I'm assuming eat something....

I have not been feeling great lately. The baby is riding high and making me really uncomfortable. I find myself getting winded and out of breathe at the simplest tasks. My DM said she has notice it a couple of weeks ago , but I just started to complain about it so she mentioned it. So things are fine but I am having trouble finding a comfortable position to be in.

I was wondering about you...

Of course, but I don't think anything will happen tonight.;) SYTYCD is my only priority tonight.......:dancer:

I did not realize you were such a reality TV junkie! :lmao:

That is obnoxious. Where did you get them from? I must know. ;)

I was wondering what was going on since you shared that cryptic message a bit ago. That sounds like a busy time! So then it should relax a bit for you once this transition is complete?

I took a 3 hour nap this afternoon, despite the sirens, train, train horn, beeping carbon monoxide alarm (it needs a new battery that I have to go buy), them bringing in construction materials, the neighbor's blaring music, and the construction noises that accompany an apartment being gutted to the studs. Geez I hope I can sleep when I move to the suburbs!

After the F&W event schedule comes out we can see if we can manage some, heck, y'all are welcome to come to all of them with us.

Bethany - Are you feeling well enough to go back to work tomorrow?

Bethany - Are you feeling well enough to go back to work tomorrow?

I'm feeling better than I was on Monday and Tuesday...and really I'm only going to have to deal with the kids for an hour, then I have a prep, then deal with them for another hour. The rest of the day is sitting and listening to somebody drone on about lesson planning for next year. :headache:

I wish I could go to the F&W Fest with everybody from this thread! I don't know when I'm going to be able to go back to WDW. If I wasn't moving, I would probably have gone in late August but I will be working then!

I won't be making ADR's until July but for any F&W folks that may be interested in getting together for dinner I know where we'll be dining at just not set on the dates yet, maybe we can work something out.......JIKO, Citricos, Flying Fish & California Grille. I know for sure Sat Oct 17 will be Flying Fish because we're attending a DIS meet that night at the Beach Club....I'm starting to get really excited!:cool1:

I'm with Sheryl, those all sound good. And I'm getting really excited too!

Ann, I'm so sorry. That last bit is always so tough.

Sheryl & & Gretchen, I have 2 boxes & I will split them up & mail them....then you guys could exchange them.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it, especially since we don't have a bookstore in my town and I'm too busy at work to go to B&N there. But if I have to read another dr's office two year old Golf or Sports Illustrated I might scream.

Yesterday I stayed to get all of the confirmations done. To save wear and tear on my printer I sent eveything I was printing to the copier. I finished and went to get them and only three of the 110 I had printed came out, the rest printed in what appears to be Russian! :headache:

Thankfully I am almost packed, just have a few little things left and they are sitting on top of the suitcase.

That always seems to be the way. You pay at work before you leave and after you get back. I hope the trip more than makes up for the trouble.

I bought flounder for dinner, so I am pan frying it and making fish tacos. Hopefully, my avocado ripened up some sitting in the hot sun all afternoon.

Oh Laura that sounds wonderful. I love fish tacos but no one in my house would eat them. And I hope Greg does make it home. For you and the children.

That is aggravating. I ran to Harris Teeter today on my lunch and picked up a few things. I specifically asked the bagger to put all the perishable items together so I could refrigerate them when I got to work. Well, he put my proscuitto in with the canned goods and because it was raining when I got out of the car, I didn't check the bags. So, yep, my proscuitto is in the trash! Grrrrrrrr.

BTW, one of Hailey's therapists needs some kind of Mary Kay lotion. I thought you did an order for Lauren. If I find out what kind of lotion, could you do an order for me?

Not that I'm trying to butt in.....but are you thinking of doing some of the event-type things? Just curious since this will technically be the first F&W for me.

Hey All!

Becky & Nancy "So you Think You Can Dance" will be tapping while I'm at the Bruce concert.

Still soooooooooo jealous....Rock on !!

I remember seeing a picture of where your organs end up will pregnant, the wee blighters just push them oot the way !!

The last wee bit always seems the longest and the hardest but just think of that wee bundle of joy you get to hug at the end !!

I'm not sure who mentioned it but my kids are HUGE Phineas and Ferb fans. Guess I know what they'll be doing this weekend. I'm working Sat., Sun, Mon, and Tues. So no break for me! Yippee.

We love Phineas and Ferb.

The show is on while the boy has his supper and I sit with him watching it.makes me laugh out loud....sad but true !!

I took a 3 hour nap this afternoon,

I took a nap today too.

I took the boy to school then jumped right back in my scratcher......OMG it was amazing !!

After the F&W event schedule comes out we can see if we can manage some, heck, y'all are welcome to come to all of them with us.

Hey Kat, Im happy for a coffee and a bagel but if we can fit in dinner cool.

I just don't do fish..

Fish scare me...............:scared:

I have a fish story I might share with youse one day.

You're not butting in, we're all going to be planning together! We only did Party for the Senses last year and while it was nice it was just way too crowded and unorganized for the hefty price tag so we're not doing that again. We do all the kiosks in World Showcase and really enjoy them. We will have to check out the line-up and see what looks good so we can all plan!:thumbsup2

I lost half my quotes !! :confused3

Thomas and I are going to see my best friend from High School and her son. We are meeting at Cracker Barrel and then going to the house she just closed on. She is not great with directions and does not know how to get to the house...that is why we are meeting at CB.

What a nice lunch date.

Your friends sounds like me.I have terrible sense of direction,my friends take me places and leave me so they can laugh at me wondering around !!

Colin jokes the only place I know my way around is....WDW...I know that place like the back of my hand !!

This is just nonsense.

I dont get her excuse either....well, get better people to draw on !!:confused3

Now you know we need to hear this one!:woohoo:

Kathy, I still come out in a cold sweat thinking about it...maybe some day I will be in a better plaice :rolleyes1 and can share !!

The Boy is moving into a brand new school after summer so they are having a " Goodbye Bonnyrigg Primary " day today.

Bouncy castles,summer fair and stuff.

The sun is out so its looking like in should be a nice day....but this is Scotland so you never know.

Fingers crossed.

They are also having a music recital and The Boy is play the viola.

He only started playing this term so its his first time performing.

His he nervous....is he heck...give that boy an audience and he's flying.

Confidence is not an issue with my boy !!

Have a good one my fine lassies.x

Good morning!

Shovan - I hope you get the aide thing figured out.

Who went to the Bruce concert last night? How was it?

Vickie - that sounds like a fun last day! We spend our last day inside cleaning. Wooeee! Talk about FUN! :lmao:

Okay, I'm posting while eating breakfast and I'm almost done. Have a great day! I'm going to try to...."only" 25 more days of work!

Stephanie- don't worry about any of the Kris gossip. No matter who wins there is always some kind of bitter backlash.

Laura- I hope that Greg is able to come home. What a wonderful surprise for the kids!

Maria- How was Bruce? He did a rendition of "Wild Thing" that was incredible!

I have to have Marisa make the logistical decisions about getting to our NYC meet, she is driving and I am chronically lost.

Sheryl- What a character Alexis is! She makes me laugh when I picture her lounging in her ice cold pool :lmao:

I do hope that there is some sort of resolution for Bob and the aide. I am so angry for the two of you!

Merle- What a mess that printer made! I know that you are going to make up for it over the weekend though!

Ann- REST! REST! REST! Do whatever it takes to relieve the pressure and do not think about anything else.

Ellen- Laura has a great idea. Timmy has internet access in his room and he uses it. He is on Face Book so we chat with him there. Maybe set up a FB account and then you all can post pics and videos for him to enjoy.

It sounds like the zoo was fun!

Aimee- I am so glad that you have one less thing to worry about.

Bethany- how are you feeling today? And I sure hope that our mini meet involves food!

Vickie- waiting for your fish story..................................

I DVR's SYTYCD and cannot wait! I watched "THe Fashion Show" this morning. I am addicted to Bravo Reality TV

Well, no pork chops last night. We went out to arrange housing for guy Buddy is bringing into help so we ended up going to a pizza place. I had a gyro platter. Love those things! Buddy had fish and chips, thought that meant a seafood platter and was lookign for the shrimp and scallops and clams. I wanted to ask him what kind of New Englander was he anyway :confused3

Tonight I am going to my sisters Pampered Chef party. I am making a mexican lasagna, a chuck wagon bake and baked chimichangas. The demonstrator os making mojitos and a cookie pizza thing. There goes my WW weekend!

Good morning, everyone! And I do mean GOOD! Alan and I made the decision yesterday that it's time to move Timothy out of our room and into his own crib. We knew that it would involve a lot of crying, as Timothy learns to settle himself down, and go to sleep on his own. However, it had to happen. I've been so exhausted with the number of times he's been waking up, wanting to nurse. So, last night at 8:00 I gave him a bottle (ramped up with rice cereal), fed him until he was drowsy, and put him down. He fussed a bit, but after about 10 minutes he went to sleep. He slept until 10:00 and then woke up, crying. We let him cry for 15 minutes, then Alan went in and patted him on his back and turned his lullaby music on, and he went right back out. At 1:45 he was up again, and by this time I really needed to feed him, so I got him up, changed him, nursed him till he was drowsy, and put him down with his music. No fussing at all! He just went right back to sleep, and I'm happy to report that it's now 7:21 a.m., and he's still ASLEEP! I can't believe how good I feel with this much sleep in me!!!! Hope it goes as well tonight!
Anyway, on to more important matters!

Vickie - I have a fish story myself. Still gives me the heebie jeebies! So, I can understand. I didn't know your boy played the viola. I play the violin! Tell him I'm proud of him for taking on difficult instrument!

Bethany - Good luck today! Take it easy, even with sitting and listening.

Sheryl - Sorry about the pork chops. That's so frustrating! Hope things with the aide went well?

Nancy - Sounds like a fun Pampered Chef evening! There's no calories involved if your cooking for a demonstration, right?

Aimee - Congrats on the new pastor. Let's hope it lightens your workload some!

Laura - I'm hoping that Greg gets to come home for a while! What a wonderful gift that would be for Caili and Liam! Well, you too!

Dinner tonight is soup and sandwiches. Alan and I are going out with my sister and her husband. Should be fun!

Kathy, I still come out in a cold sweat thinking about it...maybe some day I will be in a better plaice :rolleyes1 and can share !!

Confidence is not an issue with my boy !!

I'm so sorry Vicki, I thought it was a funny story. I had no idea it was something traumatic. Please accept my apology.:flower3:

Confidence will carry him a long way and open many doors for him.:thumbsup2

Tonight I am going to my sisters Pampered Chef party. I am making a mexican lasagna, a chuck wagon bake and baked chimichangas. The demonstrator os making mojitos and a cookie pizza thing. There goes my WW weekend!

Sounds great!:thumbsup2

Good morning, everyone! And I do mean GOOD!

I'm so glad to hear this, you've been running on empty lately woman! Timothy is such a good boy.

WFD - We're supposed to be getting all of the rain Orlando has been getting this weekend. I've got a hair appt. this afternoon and need to get to the gym so we'll get takeout of some kind.

Maria - Can't wait to hear all about Bruce!

All you guys who are planning a NYC meet, I'm SO EXCITED for y'all. We need plenty of pics and y'all better eat and take food porn!:yay:

Morning ladies! Today is my only day off until wed., so I'm humming at home this morning. Not sure wfd tonight. I'm going out with my sis and we're probably heading to LR's big memorial day fest-Riverfest. Lots of good music and food. The B-52s, Willie Nelson, and Gavin Degraw are performing tonight. Just praying for no rain.

Nan--Bravo's reality TV is definitely my guilty pleasure. I watch all the Housewives, Millionaire matchmaker, top chef. I haven't gotten into the fashion show because I love Project Runway and it seems like a copycat show. I still can't believe that Project Runway is moving to Lifetime.

Got...to...find...a...way...to...get...to...f&w!!!!!

Vickie -- How was the concert? I hope it went well. I am curious about your fish story as well.

Glynis -- I'm glad Timothy did so well his first night in the crib! I told you, my two both slept much better when they were in their own rooms. When Caili was in my room, she would see me, and then want to be with me, even if she wasn't hungry.

Bethany -- That guy with the joints was scary wasn't he? I had to shut my eyes, I was so grossed out. Take it easy today.

Aimee -- That is good news about the pastor. At least you have a few days off to prepare for your busy weeks ahead.

That's all I am remembering this morning. I have to get moving along because Caili has her school recital this afternoon, and a have a few things to do before that. I think I am going to grill burgers for dinner tonight.

Here is a photo of my dinner last night. The experiment with skewering the shrimp on sugar cane did not work out so well. I think I cut the skewers too thick, so it was hard to push them through the shrimp. Then, the sugarcane caught on fire on the grill! It was OK though, I just took the shrimp off the skewers and you could not tell that anything was wrong with them. They were marinated in coriander, soy, fish sauce, pepper, and ginger. The glaze I brushed on was a reduction of pineapple juice, honey, sambal oleok, white wine vinegar, and more ginger. It was yummy! Sweet and spicy both. I just put them on some arugula and that was dinner.

Tonight I am grilling a round of brie on a cedar plank. I think I am going to put some apricots, pistachios, and honey on it. I am also grilling some dates stuffed with parmesean cheese, and putting out a couple of pates and other cheeses, along with olives and a salad. Oh, and a baguette!
