The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Happy Birthday Ann!!!

Maria, If you ever need a wake up call, I am up early every day!!! ;)

Aimee, Hope you are feeling better and out of there soon...

Got a haircut, color and a pedi...now I feel like a new woman!!! :cool1:

Hope everyone is well!

quick check in. I am in the infusion center for my iron infusion. I seem to be reacting to it this time... I have hives. they stuck me with benadryl so I feel drunk. might add steroids since they aren't going away yet. ill be here forever now! will check in later.

I hope you start feeling better real soon.

Ladies forgive me but I'm running around crazy today trying to get ready to leave on Saturday.

Have a wonderful time. You so deserve it.

Lauren ~ Woohoo!! Nothing feels better that a cut and color. The pediFOUR is just icing on the cake. Good for you. Hey good for you on the exercising - you can brag anytime you want.

Ann ~ Happy Birthday. I love the bedding for Emma. How Cute.

Laura ~ Jay is in transportation so he was in the very first wave that went over in January 2003. The conditions were deplorable. They didn't even have flap jackets. :scared1: No tents, airconditioning, no internet or even phone service. It would go weeks before we would hear anything. So different this time. The 18 months is pretty final as I guess "He took it (meaning trucks, tanks, hummers etc) all over, now they are preparing to bring it all back." But what worries me the most is he is guarding the convoys - and what is the target of choich now? Yep, you guessed it. But only the Lord knows and he is in His hands. I so appreciate everyones prayers.

Nancy ~ Prayers are with Timmy. It is just so scary with loved ones over there. I HATE it!! Thanks for the prayers for Jay. Now about this Iphone. I really, really want one, but I know I would be like you. Heck I can't even figure out my Ipod yet. But I do think they are neat.

Vickie ~ please take care. You are so important to all of us.

Maria ~ PTL about that little boy. So often they don't turn out as good. My thoughts are with you on your adoption. Sometimes we just have to listen to our gut. It will all work out and the boys will be in your arms soon enough.

Stephanie ~ Yea for Kris!!

Sheryl ~ Doesn't it feel good to be all pretty again? Alexis is just to funny. I would love to have a Pedi Four with the 2 of you. Enjoy!!

Kat ~ I will PM you with my phone #. Call me anytime!! I am so proud of Kyle. What a wonderful mature young man. You and Johnny should be very proud. You have done a great job. Coaches can be so unfair, but they will have their day. I promise. Matthew was a star Basketball player all through High School. He was wanted by many division 2 schools to come play but he decided (after many many tears and prayers) to go to UN at Curtis because of the academic program they offered. And if I may brag a bit after last nights awards banquet he has done very well. Kyle will do well also. His studies are for the rest of his life. He will play ball for only a part of it. And who know he still might be able to walk on. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Okay I have been my regular chatty self again. I really must go, but I will check in later.

Thank you all for the "Happy Anniversaries".

You need to stick around, see how much we care!:flower3:

I'm so excited for you!:goodvibes

Oh no, sorry to hear this, hope you get home OK.

Thanks Ellen. It's ironic when I think back on things I remember telling Johnny the first time I met the coach that I thought he was arrogant and we chalked it up to the "college aura" that we weren't used to yet. Kyle has always had nothing but admiration and respect for ALL of his previous coaches but he told me early on that this one was "unlike" any other he's had, he was being very kind using that word. The manner in which the opposing teams players were treated was just the last straw for me, really sad.

I could swear I quoted another post.

Anyway, a coworkers son is in Iraq on his third tour, his date to get out of the Army was moved back from this Feburary to May of next year. :sad2: Right after he got there he told his DM that they were over there with nothing to do, just sitting around waiting.

Haven't decided what I want to do with the seafood mix yet but I am going to have roasted veggies with it, zucchini, asparagus and mushrooms.

Have Bunco tomorrow night and I have to go to the store tonight and get stuff to make a antipasto platter.

Maria Sorry about that little baby. The right baby will come along for you and Gregg.

Kathy Let Kyle know this is a great opportunity for him. I hope everything works out.

Ann Happy birthday

Gretchen I hope you are feeling better today. How is your dad doing?

Vicki It would be ok to ask for prayers for yourself. We wouldn't think any less of you if you did. :hug:Take care of yourself.

Leftovers tonight it is library night.

My Baby is home. YEA!! We had a really good time last night. We just had grilled hamburgers, baked beans and brownies for dinner. Nothing spectacular but it filled the hole. I only had the hamburger - no beans or brownie, oh I had some chips also.

Glad you had a good evening together!

Happy Birthday, Ann!

Aimee - Have you thought of anything I can do for your Mom?

I couldn't really think of anything - I will just mail her stuff. Thanks so much for your sweet offer :goodvibes

My infusion did NOT go well. I am head to toe in hives. We tried steroids, benadryl, and everytime that iron started to drip I broke out again. The doc pulled the plug. Interestingly, he said this has sulfa in it, which I am allergic to, so he said I need another kind. They said it's the same kind I had last time that I didn't react to so they thought it'd be okay :confused3 ANyways. The kind I need won't be here until JULY! It's on backorder! So I have to get through camp and VBS without it :sad2: The nurse said I got 200 out of 1000 in me, so that's something at least. If my reaction doesn't improve or gets worse, I'll be taking a trip to the ER. Waste of a day =(

Tonight we are having gorgonzola and bacon stuffed chicken with a strawberry glaze over it. Er, something like that...

/
Marilyn - Exactly what is a seafood mix?

It is shrimp, calamari and bay scallops. I got it from Trader Joe's and I think it's called seafood mix, at least that's what I call it. :rotfl:

I surely hope not, prayers headed your way.

Aimee, I'm sorry it didn't go well. Did they give you a steroid pack?
Prayers coming your way.

Does anyone have a marinade/rub for grilled tuna that you'd like to share?

I like this marinade because the fish doesn't dry out:
INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 (4 ounce) tuna steaks

**I've replaced the o.j with pineapple juice or apricot nectar for the grill & used it on chicken & pork medallions.

Lauren~ glad you made it to the salon! Have you ever been to "Rats" on the Johnson & Johnson property?

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

My nephew Chris was there for the first wave too and you are correct, the conditions were deplorable! Mail and packages took weeks. The food made my sister cry. No showers, just those portable things. Water was room temp....130 degrees. Now it is way different. Timmy even has internet access in his barracks. He did tel me that time is flying by. He is in transportation as well, he drives an MRAP I think and his convoys are long distance from what I understand. Please remember that these men are professionals and that they are doing what they need to keep themselves safe. ANd just so you know, my Mom was used to praying for all of my friends, she used to just add them to her list. I never stopped asking her for her prayers, they are just "Heavenly" now. Your Jay is on her list, along with everyone else whose name I know.

You raised your boy right, while he was under that coaches wing he kept his strong opinions to himself. He left when it was clear that he could not respect this jerk!

Gretchen- In case I miss you, have a safe and wonderful trip. Don't worry about anything, your Dad is in good hands and I think the prayer circle will do fine while you and your family are enjoying Disney Magic! I am so jealous! I want to be in Disney!

I am starving! My dinner is ready we are just enjoying a glass of wine before we eat. Nola was wired for sound today so I am :faint::faint: I have no idea how her Mom is standing by Thursday, she just got in after gettign to the farm adn finding the water shut off. She had to haul water to all of the animals and the greenhouse! I think her Dad is going to get an earful from her tomorrow. She was wild he did not water everyone and everything before turnign it off! And two more eggs showed up in my fridge!

Tomorrow we are going for Indian food for lunch. I have never been, I just get what I make and it is nowhere near what you all make. I just use curry and call it good! Ther is a buffet near us that she likes, she said it is clean and he food is fresh so I can sample different things. WW will be :scared: but I will figure out how to make it up somewhere else!

Yes, today is actually the much dreaded day. Do you think it is just psychological I feel like I have more aches and pains!:rotfl:

Doug Ross baby !!

And yes....I still would !!

Would you be talking about my man George? I would too.....

Kat- you might want to not worry about that. Debbie lived in a dorm for one tear and then moved into an apartment kind of what you say Kyle will have. I cannot say it was spotless but it was way better than what I thought she would have, she was a slob at home! Then Gail let them live in her DH home and her DD Kim was a slob. Debbie used to clean up after her but when we went to Kims apartment in Ca if was much cleaner thatn what she lived like when Debbie picked up after her. Funny hpw much cleaner these kids are when Mom is not taking care of the space.

Aimee, I'm sorry it didn't go well. Did they give you a steroid pack?

They didn't. Just told me to drink lots of fluid to push that sulfa out of my system and take Benadryl to help with itching. They did give me a bunch of steroids by IV earlier that helped a lot, though.

My hives are gone! :yay: I collapsed when I got in, napped for a couple hours, and woke up to find them gone. Thankfully no ER visit for me.
