The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Nancy, enjoy your night out tonight. You need to have a relaxing night. Enjoy.
Vickie, I'm glad your home, please feel better:hug: I wish we lived close we could watch girly movies!

I'm still in my pjs and bored to tears...tomorrow I will head out to a lawn chair. Uncomfortable today, hopefully better tomorrow.

I too am bored it keeps raining here. I am scuring the net for recipes. I hate being like this cause all I want to do is eat. I did find a bratwurst skillet recipe I am making since I can't grill in the rain.

Hi Gals,

Busy day today. I did my grocery shopping this morning. After lunch we took DS outside to play which was fun. My DSD and DGS joined us and spent most of the day here. The two boys had a ball.

WFD- We had swiss cheese burgers with mac salad. Nothing like grilling in this beautiful weather.

FYI...DH took the two gas tanks to be filled today. The one that ran out the other night was almost full :confused3. Who knows what happened, I tried to light it after it went out but with no luck, so who knew!!! :lmao: DH figures the wind blew it out or something. Oh well :rotfl:

Hugs to everyone. Thinking of you Nancy, Lindsay, and Vickie.

Ann

I smashed my face this morning which has left it pounding all day but just took plain Tylenol.

How the heck did you manage that? :confused3

The news wasn't good. The leukemia is still there. Right now they are saying they are going to work on building up her immune system, sending her some for a litte while, and then proceeding to do a bone marrow transplant.

Haven't read back but.. to all that need them.

I ve had a crappy few days too.

I ended up back in hospital thursday, flashin blue lights and everything !!

My poor DIL found me but the lad coped like a super hero.:cool2:

Very dramatic...if Scotlass is gonnae do it she does it right.

I got home today, and the good news is this latest episode has brought my surgery date forward to 3/4 weeks from 12/16 weeks...every cloud and all that !!

Good grief! I am so sorry!!

I am on a mini break - well needed break! Retreat was fabulous, had 20 or so kids, got no sleep and worked my tail off but there was little blood shed, no broken bones, and very little crying. That's a success in my book :thumbsup2

My mother is here; she and my brother are dawdeling over since I needed to shower, clean house, etc before they arrived. I asked DH to vacuum, dust, and put up the extra paint cans before he left town for the day and of course he did none of it :confused3 So I ran around like a mad woman to do it all, sweating up a storm because it's HOT here, and then rewarded myself with a nice cold shower. *whew*

Since mom is early, and I have not made it to the store yet today, I think we're going out. I have more work to do tonight to prepare for tomorrow but she can help.

BTW - anyone use M&Ms in their pancakes? I usually do chocolate chip but someone said to try M&Ms this time. The kids all voted that they like it even better - and because the shell doesn't break when the inside melts, I didn't get any burnt chocolate on my griddle! :woohoo:

Good Morning everyone! This is the first time I have been on since I posted about Kady's food allergies.

I was supposed to close on Friday, April 17th. That would have been perfect because I had the following week off from work. Well the seller was a total jerk and we didnt close until the following Wednesday. Jeff and I had to try to empty an entire moving truck ourselves in the rain... not fun!! We had to give up and wait for the rain to stop and for Buddy and my brother to get out of work. Then Jeff had to work for the rest of the week. He works nights and sleeps during they day, so Erica and I had to try to put everything away while still keeping quiet so he could sleep. It has been one crazy week!

So my kitchen is totally done! I have everything clean and put away! Both bathrooms are done, and Kady's room is almost done. I just have to pick up Kadys clothes and stuff from Nans then we can be done with her room. My living room still has bins in it, but if they are not emptied today, I am putting them in the basement to deal with later. I need to feel less cluttered for the work week.

If anyone is interested, I can post some pictures tonight! Nan will still have Kady in the morning. I have to drop her off around 6:30 so I can get to work for 7, and then she will still pick her up from school. So they will still see her alot everyday.

I want to make some baked ziti type dinner tonight with garlic bread. Can I get some help with a fail proof recipe? I will need to go to the grocery store, but I think that if I make that today, it will reheat nice for dinner tomorrow night because we have a busy night tomorrow.

Have a great day everyone and I will check in later!!!

Congrats, on the new house!! Do you have to ask about pics?!?!?!...you know we all love them! I you have time and want to share, I would love to see them.

What beautiful NE weather finally...it is 75 here already!!!:cool1:

You lost me here.

<-----caffeine hasn't kicked in yet.

Sorry it brought back memories of being young and not many braincells firing at the same time.

Marissa My baked Zita is really complicated and very difficult. Go to store buy jar of Barilla florentine spinach and cheese pasta sauce, package of italian sausage (preferably not in casing) bring home. Brown sausage little garlic and seasoning of your choice (mine basil and oregano depending on mood red pepper flakes) and sauce mix all with cooked ziti. Add to greased baking dish top with mozzarella cheese a little parm or asiago bake for 20 minutes 350. Pour glass of wine cause now you are very tired from slaving over a hot stove ;)

:rotfl2: You're on a roll today woman!

I have a recipe for baked ziti, gotta go find it!

WFD - Hamburger steaks with onion & mushroom gravy, baked mac & cheese and mustard greens. (After being told we had a girlie foo foo dinner last night, gotta give the man some comfort food tonight;))

Here's the recipe I use but it makes a ton so I cut it by half. I also use Italian sausage/ground beef combo:

Baked Ziti

* 1 pound dry ziti pasta
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 pound lean ground beef
* 2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
* 6 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
* 1 1/2 cups sour cream
* 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
* 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.
2. In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef over medium heat. Add spaghetti sauce, and simmer 15 minutes.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer as follows: 1/2 of the ziti, Provolone cheese, sour cream, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining ziti, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
4. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheeses are melted.

Dinner last night was kind of fun. We were in a hurry to get to Cabela's to watch the fish, so I boiled some curly tube pasta (don't know the correct name for it), and served it with Sun-dried tomato pasta sauce. The sauce was kind of orange, so I called it "Tigger Tails" My kids loved it!

Dinner tonight will be Applesauce chicken in the crock pot, jello, green beans, and cherry chocolate cheesecake for dessert.

Gotta run get everyone dressed for church. Talk to y'all later!

Checking in quick, but
 Nancy -- I am so sorry for your loss.

Wendie -- So nice to hear from you again!

Vickie -- I hope you are feeling better.

Lindsay -- I am sorry to hear about Jan. I am glad you had a good night with Kevin and Amanda.

Liam has his first baseball game in an hour, and we just walked back into the house after staying at my parents' last night, so I am really behind. I think I am just making burgers for dinner tonight. No fancy Sunday dinner today because my parents are heading to my aunt's funeral. She was very elderly and sick, so we are relieved that she is in a better place. I feel a little bad that the kids and I aren't going, but my mom said not to worry about it, so I'm trying not to.

Picture time!

Good luck to Liam!

I am sorry for your loss  I agree with your Mom, I have told my family that they do not need to attend on Tuesday, it is really too much with all they have to do. If your Aunt was anything like mine she would be irritated if you went and the kids missed out on the game.

I confess that I even told Buddy that I would be fine if he did not come with me and when I told my sister (Emily Post in disguise) she did not give me that (" HMMMMMM......well......do what you need to do for you" thing that would let me know that I had committed a huge faux pas. He has not decided, he wants to go but he has a lot of responsibility here and he really does not travel well.......

Picture time!

He is so darn cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the sleepy baby series, all tuckered out :cloud9:

Pour glass of wine cause now you are very tired from slaving over a hot stove ;)

You bring back some memories for me .....Boone's Farm apple wine anyone??????

Now that glass she is supposed to pour is for me. She is the Mojito girl ;)

!

DO we have the recipe for applesauce chicken?

Dinner is up in the air. We are going to lunch to celebrate Kady's allergy free life. Good thing too, I am still not altogether from last night. We wre going to a lakeside place but it was crowded. Mobbed actually so we went to a little place the is also a microbrewery. I really wanted a burger and fries (so not a WW supper) and Buddy wanted a real meal (after a solid week of me not cooking my sandwich man had had enough :rotfl2:) so we sat on the deck and enjoyed the evening. I had beeramisu for desert. There was beer in the chocolate and in the filling of that dessert andit ws stupendous! Thank goodness that Buddy had orders that he needed to share it with me. :lmao: Boy did 5:30 come early today
