The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Spoke with Gretchen, she's pretty shaky & upset. I told her that we are all praying. Her Dad will begin chemo on Monday and since it's spread to the bones he will undergo bone treatments as well. The prognosis right now is 1 year, but as I told her that could mean three or more years with the power of positive thinking and prayers.

She was considering not going on her vacation but Kenny talked her out of that and I think I made a case for that as well.

I'm glad she's going on vacation - a caregiver needs a sabbath in the midst of that kind of illness.

Did I tell y'all that my mother flies in on Saturday? :yay::yay::yay::yay: She tried to figure out a way to get home with a cooler full of "mickey on a stick" (aka mickey bars) but couldn't :sad2:

Oh my heart hurts for Gretchen. Please tell her we are praying for her Dad.

(Kathy much thanks again for taking care of all of us.)

So Kat, beans come in black on Mondays too? :rotfl:
(Thinks this move could be quite the learning experience....:lmao:)

My allergies are acting up too. Badly. I've been coughing constantly. :sad2: And I can't take anything involving sudafed because my blood pressure is high.

:rotfl2: You crack me up!

Beans are usually only red or white in most New Orleanians homes. As my brother as said " Sherry is always cooking weird food ". (Bethany, Sherry is my family's nickname for me.)

Sorry you are feeling bad. Maybe a change will do you good! I do think you need to get out of that moldy apt very soon!

Thanks everyone for the big welcome home!

Bethany - you have me :rotfl2: about the color of the beans!

Glad I could give you a laugh. :goodvibes

It is an Indian flatbread.

Guess what, they also can be purple and white striped too! :rolleyes1

BREAD comes in purple and white stripes? Is that....safe? :scared:

Okay...if you DO ever figure out how to keep food safe in airplanes you have to let me know...

And have a great time with your mother!

:lmao::lmao: I know I'm also sick a lot from stress. It can do some wild things, lemme tell you. I have stories...lots of crazy stories...

Tomorrow we are supposed to go to the zoo on a field trip. :scared: It's also supposed to storm tomorrow...like hail and stuff. This could get VERY interesting. :headache:

Anyone watching AI tonight? Kris was awesome!!!!:thumbsup2

I have to agree...I loved Kris last night!!! I would love the finale to be him and Adam.

Hey NE ladies...did you see they are predicting the weather for Saturday and Sunday to be 79-85...:flower3: Holy Moly!!!

DS slept all night 8:15pm- 6:45am. WooHoo :cool1:, first time in a very long time. I am hoping no nap is the answer.

WFD- have to see what Mom makes. Anything taste good to me that I don't cook these days.

Hugs and prayers to all of you :grouphug: extra ones for Maria, Gretchen, and Sheryl.

Have not read yet, just posting last night's dinner--chicken ceasar panini. Will be back later to catch up!

Me too, but I think we'll be seeing a shocker tonight. The two that should be going home probably won't be.:sad2:

Personally, I think it should be Lil & Anoop leaving tonight but it wouldn't surprise me if Allison or Matt were in the bottom. I do think Adam, Danny and Kris should be fine with their followings. Luke was dancing around to Danny singing September when I watched it on DVR this morning. One of my favorite songs from my dance club days...many, many, moons ago!!!:lmao:

Quick check in...I have Andrew home sick again with a bad sore throat. I am finally taking him to the dr. I do not think its strep since he does not have a fever but his throat is really swollen and red. He tends to play it up a bit so I told him no video games if he is sick. I think he is getting Spring fever and does not want to be in school.

We are going to get Chinese take out tonight. I cooked A's 2 favorite meals this week and now I am off...;)

Prayers for Nancy's Aunt and family, Gretchen's Dad, Doug's Dad, Maria, Sheryl and who ever else needs them.

I need to catch up but I am not even going to say it anymore. I don't think I ever will!

Have a great day!

Thank you all for your prayers :grouphug::grouphug:

Kathy- thank you so much for both updates. I hope that today finds Maria feeling well. I pray that Gretchen does take her vacation. We always took ours and made sure that the others did as well. It may be stressful on her to leave but honestly, for her Dad it is a positive sign that life is "normal" and that is very good medicine. Prayers going her way

I also appreciate that you are keeping things "normal" here as well. So much going on and it is a bright spot to come here and just catch up. If you were not keeping us all centered, well it would not be the same

Laura and Becky- Happy Anniversary to your Mom and Dad!

Sheryl _ I saw your update on Angelina and am thrilled for her. :wizard: that her job and her health are both going in the best direction!

You must make the best decision for you and Bob. I hope that the Dr says that July is going to be okay for you, having the girls to step in and "direct traffic" for you will make life so much easier. If he feels that July is too long, remember that things manage to work themselves out so do what you need to do and you will be surprised how those obstacles do fall out of the way.

Bethany- Daily color coded beans :lmao::lmao:Feel better!

Aimee- slow down! Have a great visit with your Mom. Did you say that she worked at AKL? Tell her Jambo!!!!!!! for me! SInce finding our way back to Disney we have had some lovely trips and made many memories but our most magical stay was at AKL :cloud9: Between the surroundings, the staff and our family it was a trip of a lifetime for me.

Meals here have been :scared:. I am not really cooking, actually I am not cooking at all. I am home all day today, God willing. My Aunt is :sad2:. I don;t know what she is feeling, I believe she knows we are there but she only responded when I told her I was going to go home and let her "sleep". Gail is spending the day and after Nola leaves I will go up but it is Welby's late day so we'll see how that works out. Marisa is closing on her new home today so I don't want to ask her to take Nola but I know that she will if I need her later on. I stop in later, thank you all!

Morning Y'all,

Quick checkin, I'm tired & going lay down for a bit.

Lauren, Sorry A is sick! I hope the dr can help.

Gretchen,

Maria, I'm sure today is not fun, but it's going to get better really soon! Prayers for a super speedy recovery.

Lindsay, How is Jan feeling? She has been in my prayers.

Bethany, Good luck with the field trip. We are going to have to teach you how to cook beans of all colors when you get down here! I have to look for that striped bread though! Oh I know king cake purple green & gold striped bread! ;)

Nan, You always have the best advice for me! After talking with Bob last night I went to bed decided on July. Then when I woke up this morning & went to sit up, I'm thinking on no it should be May. We'll see where am I after my nap. :upsidedow:sad2:

Becky, I really need to learn how to make a sandwich like that!!

Don't know what's for dinner yet.

Good morning ladies,

Beautiful day here. I think spring has finally sprung. :yay: The last 2 nights I have been able to get out a take a bike ride. Tonight I will walk my 3 miles. The girls and I are doing a 5K on Saturday so I need to be ready. My goal is to not be last. We did one last July 4th and I was dead last. I know someone has to be last but this time is will NOT be me.

Prayers to Gretchen, Maria, Angelina and Sheryl.

Sorry to hear A isn't feeling well. My Matthew has spring fever also. These last few weeks are always hard. He is soooooo ready to be home. He has done very well with his first year in College. But he is READY to be home.

Nancy, my prayers are so with you and Buddy. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.

Kathy you are our rock!! Thanks. How is Kyle feeling. Hopefully no sneezing.

Amy, have fun with your Mom.

Bethany, you are my happy place each day. I have to tell you though, being from the Mid-West you all cook very different things. Some I have never heard of either. But I love ya, because just about the time I am wondering what something is - you ask. God Love ya!!

Ladies, make it a great day. I will try to check in later

Anyone watching AI tonight? Kris was awesome!!!!:thumbsup2

I agree. I think he has a real future in the music industry, no matter what the result from the show. He has a talent for taking old songs and making them new.

Bethany -- I hope you are feeling better. Can you take Claritin? That helps Liam and Caili, but you need to take it every day during allergy season for it to work.

She tried to figure out a way to get home with a cooler full of "mickey on a stick" (aka mickey bars) but couldn't :sad2:

Becky and John take a cooler full of food with them when they go to St. John. They use something called TechniIce, which stays frozen for 24 hours. They have brought frozen chickens with them.

Have a fun visit with your mom!

Lauren -- You should never feel bad about not being able to keep up here...you're a new mom. I'm glad you can pop on here when you can. I hope Andrew feels better.

Sheryl -- I hope the nap helped. Like Nancy said, things do have a way of working out, so you need to do what is best for you.

Maria -- I hope your recovery is going well.

 for Nancy and Gretchen.

After all that, I am not even sure what I'm making for dinner tonight. It is a skating night, so it will be something fast. It's also supposed to rain later, so no grilling.

SInce finding our way back to Disney we have had some lovely trips and made many memories but our most magical stay was at AKL :cloud9: Between the surroundings, the staff and our family it was a trip of a lifetime for me.

She is actually at AK; I have always wanted to stay at AKL! It's gorgeous!

Beautiful day here. I think spring has finally sprung. :yay:

Spring?! It's flippin' 90 degrees here!!!

Becky and John take a cooler full of food with them when they go to St. John. They use something called TechniIce, which stays frozen for 24 hours. They have brought frozen chickens with them.

Oooh. Can you carry it on or do you have to check it?

:cool1: Marisa on your closing!! :cool1:

My mother is coming for my sister's wedding - she is getting hitched week from Saturday. I feel very removed from the wedding :sad1: Mom will be spending lots of time with Granddaddy next week; she will be staying with me but my week is already swamped so I won't be hanging around much with them, sadly.

Tonight is church night so as usual, I'll be scrounging for something.

Aimee, if you use tecnhi ice you have to check it.

Dinner tonight is leftovers from Monday.

Did I tell you guys that my refrigerator died? I am so mad. It just keeps getting warmer and warmer. I have all my perishable food in my supplimentary beverage refrigerator. The beverage fridge is a small dorm style fridge, so this will not be a workable solution for long.

Oooh. Can you carry it on or do you have to check it?

The cooler bag they have is too big to check, but I know the company makes smaller ones. I actually think the company has sent Becky a free bag because she has told so many people about them. She'll have to post the company name.

I'm sorry you feel so disconnected from the wedding. I hope the wedding weekend finds you feeling more included.

Kathy -- Poor Kyle. That sounds awful.

I think I am making bratwurst tonight.
