The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Ladies, I need to ask you to add me, well my father really, to the prayer list. He was just diagnosed with lung cancer and we are all devastated. He is undergoing some more tests, particularly to see if it has spread before the doctors prescribe any course of treatment. But today the doctor told us that if it has not spread and is just in his lungs we are looking at a time frame of 6 months to 2 years depending on how well he responds to treatment.

I am so sorry to hear about your dad. Positive thoughts and hugs coming your way.

Kathy I ws thinking also if you had it in a bag who would know:confused3 I have never seen Rosa in any of the shops. Usually the shops have splits but not full bottles. Yes I looked don't tell ;)

Tonight is leftovers Oh I am so tired just thinking about the reheating I have to endure.:rotfl:

Gretchen :hug:I will add your dad to my prayer list.

Glynis Oh that poor women's family  :hug:for your dad as well. It is really rough to go through that so far from home.

Laura You could make Liam's "favorite" meal and just say "I forgot";)

It must not be a good week to be a kid. I just had to remind Alex it is not always fun to be a kid. He wanted to not go to the last day of school. He thought it was a dumb idea. I had to explain this is just one example of the many things in life that is unfair and stupid :rolleyes1 He can have as much fun as his dad and I tourmenting his children when he is grown :rotfl2:

No, not city wide. They're doing some street work in my subdivision and I guess they screwed up the cable stuff.:sad2:

Ooh, I'd be ticked if my shows weren't on due to that!

Did you hear anything about Ace & his possible adoption?

Talked to my colleague who said it was way too late last night for them to have a good conversation about it. Hopefully!!

Hate to go O/T here but I'm afraid I'll forget if I don't ask now. We're having a get together with some DISers in October, a BYOB kinda thing around 9/9:30 in the evening. We're having dinner at Flying Fish at the Boardwalk before. We'd like to have a bottle of Rosa for the meet but can we get on Disney buses with alcohol and bring it in the restaurant? If not where can we buy a bottle, chilled, in the EPCOT resort area?:confused3

I'd stick it in your purse or bag and not worry about it. Be aware you'll be charged a corkage fee.

I'm really lost right now and would appreciate any prayers you could spare for me.

Oh my gosh!! I am so sorry.

I guess this is a day for bad news. I just got a phone call from my dad. He's in Paris right now, with a tour group he put together. They are people who visit his Festival every year and donate money to it. Anyway, one of the ladies on the tour had a heart attack and died in Paris. They've had to go through tons of red tape in order to get her body shipped back to the States. Dad really isn't handling it well. I just wish that I could be there for him.

How terribly sad for all of those on the trip.

We're staying at SSR and I know a shop in DTD has the bottles, we bought one there last year. That's what I'll do then, just pack it in a bag with the corkscrew!

Did you get a chance to visit your brother?

Kathy, I think you could definitely bring the Rosa on the bus. If you have it in some kind of tote, they will never know either. Make sure to bring some zip locs to put the ice in! :thumbsup2

I never got to see Charles today. He was in alot of pain and was going to see an acupuncturist (sp). He has severe stomach cramping that the pain meds do not help. I am going to see how he feels tomorrow.

I made a really good pork chop dish with potatoes, onions, tomatoes and a cheese and bread crumb crust...so good!

Tom is in the process of going through all of our pics and putting them all together on a network...so OK, this is a horrible pic of me but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it...Fergie gave me my 5 pound lost bookmark at a WW meeting several years ago. I think I was actually crying since I was really happy to meet her. Look at how high my pants are! I think I was so excited to have a slimmer waist that I belted my pants like that...guess I didn't look in the full length mirror that day!

Gotta go...Tom just handed me a big ol' glass of wine. Bogle Chardonnay...pretty good!

Lauren - Hope you get to see Charles tomorrow, he remains in my prayers.

Care to share the pork recipe, sounds great?

Love the pic!

Gretchen, of course I will pray for your Dad.:hug: Please do not give up hope, about 5 years ago my BIL was diagnosed with lung cancer and was given a very short time frame. His cancer was a very malignant form of the disease. I won;t kid you about the treatment, it was aggressive but Tom is still here and healthy. You just never can give up hope, the diagnosis is not always correct. Please PM me if you need me :grouphug:

Nan, that is an amazing survival story, brings me to tears. You're so right, NEVER give up hope.

She's got some medical issues and needs our good thoughts.:goodvibes

She's got them! :goodvibes

I'm so sorry Charles is so bad. Love the pic!

Evening friends, having trouble falling asleep this evening.

Lauren, I'm sorry you couldn't see Charles today. I pray the acupuncture helps his pain & you can see him soon. I am so sad that you are dealing with this at such a young age my dear friend!:hug:

That pic! No that can't possibly you??!!! You now look at least 20 years younger & a lot prettier!! :thumbsup2 Although I totally can't blame you for not lookint your best. I woudl be star-struck meeting Fergie!

Kat, I don't know where you could buy chilled Rosa. But I don't think you would get checked on the bus or in the rest, if you have it in a bag. You could also drop it off at our room before hand & we could put it in the fridge. Can we book adr's now? I haven't done a thing yet! You know we love FF, maybe we could join you? We should probably have something for Brenda. Any ideas on that? Just a card, a gift or maybe just more liquor & maybe we could order hor d'oeurves from somewhere in the BC?

Prayers for Angelina's job as well as for you and Bob with the aide. As you come to know the aide, it will get easier and easier, so I hope this one works out.I'm glad that worked out. I hope the home for Ace works out that well.

Thanks for the prayers my friend, prayers are being sent right back to you. Job & back problems seem so insignificant to cancer. This is so hard, my prayers & thoughts will be with you. :flower3::hug:

Oh, that sounds so familiar! I get the same reaction from Katie. Now, I wait for her to let me know she's forgotten something, then I charge her for the gas and the time it takes me to get to the school. It's forcing her to take responsibility. As for my April Fool idea, I can't take the credit. I subscribe to Family Fun magazine, and that's where I get my ideas. The kids are getting faux fish sticks for an after school snack: wafer cookies smeared with peanut butter and rolled in crushed Corn Flakes.

Whoa lady! You are too smart & DD thought we were tough! :thumbsup2 You ideas amaze me. I'm impressed with the cute ideas for family fun, but I really think you could teach a class on child behavior & parenting! :worship:
How old is Katie & when should I start to expect this with Alexis? DD sorted started off with kind of attitude, but Alexis is so different.

Sheryl - I'm sending major prayers and pixie dust for Angelina! I really hope this comes through (and the insurance stuff, too!). It's her turn for some good news!

Gretchen - I'm so sorry to hear your bad news! Prayers coming your way, too!

Thanks, You are a sweet friend! My poor girl hasn't had a break lately! I so wish y'all could meet her. She is so good at what she does, strong & confident. It makes me so sad to see her go through all of this. It's particularly hard when she has followed all of our advice about education and choice of jobs ( when she graduated, she had options).

I'm sending prayers for your Dad! That must be a really difficult situation for him to handle.

Dinner tonight ending up being burgers on the grill. I had frozen Omaha burgers, which were easy & Bob's request. He had a very, very, bad day at work, so I shut down my idea of "fancy" salad & gave him a good m-rare burger with potato chips & wine. ;) His day was so rough, the burgers, LOTS of potato chips!, and wine didn't even seem to help! I feel bad when he starts talking engineering stuff that I am clueless about. All I can say is I'm sorry & fix the food that he feels will help.:confused3

I forgot to say I'm sending prayer's o'er the water to our friend scotlass!! I really hope you feel better soon!:wizard:

Sheryl, that would be great if we could chill our Rosa in your frig! I would love for y'all to join us at FF. We can't make our ADR's until July, so I'll check with you before I call and make sure y'all still want to go. Are y'all not planning on PFTS this year? I think Bendy & Jay will be that night. I've been thinking about something for Bendy and am clueless. Your idea about the liquor is good, not sure if they'd want more food after PFTS though....but then again we're talking about bottomless pit Bendy.

You're a great wife.

WFD - Going out to lunch with co-worker at PF Chang's so I'm doing tacos for my guys tonight.

Continued prayers for Charles, Gretchen's Dad, Lindsay's MIL, scotlass and anyone else if I've forgotten someone.:grouphug:

Good Morning! Hugs to all...gosh, the DIS is slow today!

Thank you for your continued prayers for Charles...I am going to call this morning to see if he is feeling up to a visit. I feel really bad that I have not seen him yet. It was his bday on Saturday...so I feel even worse not seeing him yet but I do not want him to be uncomfortable when I am there either.

Not sure of dinner. I think A and I have hair cuts after school...gotta look at my date book.

QUESTION: I let my hair grow to be able to pull it back when I had the baby but now it seems to be getting in the way. Should I chop it off?

*********
Sheryl, I need a few things from MK...are you up to that? I agree with Kat, you're an awesome wife to make a "special" dinner for Bob. Hope his day is better today. Don't you hate when they talk shop?

*********
Have a great day all!

Hey Lauren, our WDW trips are at the same time. We will be there Nov. 1-7.
