The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Hey Y'all,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIAM!!!

I hope Liam is enjoying all of his parties!!

Becky, Thanks for posting the burnt croutons! We need to know that you are human! ;) It's still amazing how you can take burnt toast & make it look so wonderful! I know the whole family will enjoy your food & just getting together! Liam's Sisters & Family, Have fun!!! :goodvibes

Nan, I'm sorry you are still feeling "off"! I hope you feel better soon! I'm praying for you to feel better & that this procedure works! :flower3:

Glynis, Sorry you are feeling down! But I'm happy for you that Alan is such a wonderful husband!!!

Lauren, T - Tee is a good name! :goodvibes I do still have a little numbness from my 2 surgeries that hasn't gone away. But it's so minor that I rarely even notice it.

Kat, Hugs & prayers for Kyle, Mom & Dad!! I know you must be worried! Call me if you need to talk! Remember, Josh had to make a decision about baseball & focusing on school. School was definitely the right decision for him! Thank goodness DD was able to put him through school & now with the loss of her job right now, they really can manage finacially on his salary. Things work out for the best!!!

I'll be back later with some pics, have to go take care of DH right now. We had a delicious brunch hope the pics look good.

Last night I was chatting with Bethany on FB and we chatted about the Botanical Garden, being we are both having MAJOR winter cabin fever we decided on meeting on a Saturday for a tour of the garden & maybe some lunch. Of course all are invited but I know Lauren & possibly Thomas would like a Spring walk and Nancy & Marisa???
Let us know your thoughts....maybe in May?

Based on how my ears are not progressing I will try to get to an ENT first thing Monday morning. Two trips to the ER, a change in antibiotics & I'm still in bed. Portugal isn't looking promising at all. One of the ER docs told my Mom last night that the threat of my ear drum rupturing could only be cleared by an ENT. At this point I feel like such crap even if I got the ok it seems like I would be wasting a trip.
Kat, let us know about Kyle, he's in my prayers~
Glynis, Greg was excited about me coming home from Florida after 10 days then when he saw how sick I was I know he was disappointed in more than one way......poor boy! lol Rainchecks sometimes have to be given.....
Aimee, praying for your Grandpa, please post photos of the new pup.
Lauren, so happy everyone is adjusting.
Bethany, it was so nice to chat with you one on one with you last night.
Nancy, you had us worried.......just rest, rest, rest & drink fluids to flush the medication.

Aimee, Sorry that your Grandpaw is back in the hospital, I'll be praying for him. :flower3:

Maria, I'm sad to learn that you are still so sick & that you won't be going to Portugal! I'll be praying that you get well! Your Meet plans sound great!

Dinner tonight is going to be leftover steak I grilled on thursday.

Here's a few pics from the week. Unfortunately my photography skills seem to be deteriorating lately.

New Orleans Style "Barbecue" Shrimp Pasta with red swiss chard

Salad with Ginger Sesame Dressing ( I think I served this with the steaks, but don't have a pic of the steaks. :confused3 )

Chocolate Creme Brulee with red wine marinated strawberries

This morning's brunch. Barbecue Shrimp Pasta Frittata that I made with the leftover shrimp pasta. This was really yummy!

Sheryl, you photos look delicious!!!!!!
That frittata could bring my appetitie back 1, 2, 3!!!!:thumbsup2

My girlfriend in NC just got a job cooking for a B&B!!!! That sounds like so much fun to me! I'll post the name of the in when she sends it.

Maria, Thanks, but I think I need a photography class.

That does sound like a fun job! Did you just put those tickers up? Your going on a transatlantic cruise!!! Woohoo!!! Tell me about it!

Just checking in...lots of tough stuff in this thread today. :sad1:

:grouphug: and pixiedust: for everybody. Seems like everybody in here needs it for something or other.

I went to work today, then stopped by McDonald's on the way home. :headache: I am not a McDonald's fan. I only really like the $1 (which is no longer a $1) ice cream sundae and the chocolate milkshake. I had planned to go to a "real" (full-size) supermarket "on the way home" (it's SO not "on the way") from work, but I was too tired.

After I ate my McNuggets, I fell asleep for 3 hours! Guess I needed some rest!

Look at those cute Disney M&Ms!!!!!

Greg & I are going for our anniversary. We leave from New York on the Queen Mary 2 cruise to Southampton, England & then we'll spend a few days in London & fly home.
The ship looks so beautiful!!! They have great speakers, planeterium & a champagne bar!!! Last year Greg & my Mom went to see the "3 Queens" sail from lower Manhattan, it was the only time they would ever be together. The QM2 was on her maiden voyage, the Queen Victoria was there & the QE2 was going to Dubai to be docked and used as a hotel...it was so beautiful.

Anyway we can't wait have a balcony cabin & I can't think of a better way to spend an anniversary. I've never been on Cunard. I'm already obsessing about what to wear in the evening. Greg is easy pack tux will travel:confused3

Look at her isn't she pretty?

I've been in such a funk for the last few days, and it wasn't until yesterday that I realized why. Yesterday was my mom's birthday. She would have been 77 years old. I've been missing her a lot lately.

I'm so sorry I missed this earlier Glynis. The birthdays, holidays and anniversaries for the first year or two were extremely hard for me. They're still hard. Know that I am here for you always.

Are you seeing a show ?

Happy Birthday Liam.

He was born very premature and it was touch and go for a while but he is doing great now.

Oh,and check me oot wi the multi-quotes...only took me two years tae work it oot !!

We had a visit from my DSS and his girlfriend so dinner was a little later than normal...just wanted to post what we had.

Mushroom rice, corn, lamb chops (for me), and BBQ country style ribs (for DH).

Don't you hate when people drop in close to dinner and there just isn't enough to offer for them to stay. I felt bad.

That is so exciting!! What a wonderful trip that is going to be! I'd explode with enthusiasm over it! I'm very happy for you! Just get yourself well, so you can go do some shopping & be ready for this vacation of a lifetime. :goodvibes

You know I have to check in, I missed too much already

Glynis- It's funny how you know when your Mom's special days are without even thinking. I send hugs to Heaven on my Mom;s birthday.

Scotlass- your Aunt was close by that day.

Kat- Poor Kyle. The longer he has to wait the harder for him, I think. I know he can do it, he just has to believe it too but the wait must be horrendous.

I hope Liam is having a great day!

Bethany- I have no wonder why you were tired. Just listening to the days you have lately is exhausting. I have no idea how you do it.

Maria- I hope you go to the ENT. I had a severe ear infection a few years ago, I had never had one in my life. My Dr sent me to the ENT, she was worried about my eardrum too. I have no idea what the man did, he treated me and then sent me to a collegue who did something else after testing my hearing. It helped a lot. DOn;t take chances with this.
A transatlantic cruise! It sounds like a dream! Whatever you do...take care of youerself, get lots of rest and let that poor battered immune system catch up....you have a cruise to look forward to!

Ann- I hate it when dinner is not enough to share with unexpected guests. Just a little notice and I can stretch it but with no notice....:upsidedow What can you do?

Sheryl-YUM!

Buddy and I were alone for dinner. I had cooked a lot of extra food this week so we had leftover chicken and salad. Buddy's was smothered in gravy and mine was over the salad. I also had a fruit salad that my Sis IL brought over this afternoon. She also brought chicken wraps from COstco and they made a nice lunch.

I have moved from the couch to the chair and back all day today. I feel okay but I still feel a little off, like a headache that can't make it's mind up. It's making me fuzzy. I forgot that Kady had her Retreat for her First Communion today :guilty:, I feel so badly. The DRE sent a reminder but I have not checked my email much this week. It is only an hour but it is an important piece of her preparation so I have to talk to the DRE and explain.

We went to IHOP and I had something that didn't agree with me, AT ALL! We had to come home immediately! Poor Alan. I think he was hoping for a much bigger celebration (if you get my meaning). Instead, I passed out in bed at 7:30 and didn't wake up until 2:00 when Timothy wanted to eat. Yikes!!!!

Dinner tonight will be soup and sandwiches. Most likely tomato soup and grilled cheese.

Oh, he's a keeper! :lovestruc I'm sorry the evening ended up icky but the thought sure is nice.

Aimee-

Just got home from funeral for a lady who worked in one of our programs. Was interesting to say the least. They had a wake first, I have never been to one, so I had no idea what to expect. Basically we sat in the church and looked at the open casket, then right before the funeral the family said their last good-byes and they closed the casket up. In all of the funerals I have been to the family leaves and then they do that.

I've never been to a wake, or even heard of one in this area. We have visitation - where you can see the body at the funeral home and visit with the family. It's typically the evening before the funeral for about 2 hours. Is that similar to a wake?

Kyle just texted me, they finished their last game and he didn't pitch.:sad1:

I'm so sorry!!! Are you going to be out lots of $ if you reschedule your Portugal trip?

Crack in a cup makes the food at Mickey D's edible. (guess what I have in my hand? )

I am SO. JEALOUS. :goodvibes

I'm so sorry!!! Are you going to be out lots of $ if you reschedule your Portugal trip?

Just a little bit of $$$$, we are going to try to reschedule for April. Based on my health & all the other crap this year we took insurance.

I can't believe the pain & pressure in both ears.....7 days & no better. God bless people that have severe hearing issues, I'm even a little nervous in the house alone, can't hear a blessed thing!

Nan, I will see the ENT Monday, I'm a little nervous. Hope they can come up with something....

Glynis your in my prayers:hug:

Thanks, Kathy, and everyone else! It's rough, but I've finally given myself permission to just miss her and to heck with everyone else. If I want to be sad, by dang, then I'm going to be sad! My kids and Alan are being really good about it, but my SIL's are not. It's ok, though. Their mother is still alive. I'll revisit the issue when she dies, and they are sad.

They had a visitation the night before as well. This was similar, just at the church and people just went down to the alter where the casket was set up, looked at her, then went and sat until the funeral.

I had asked my boss the day before if she knew what would happen and she said that she didn't know. When her father died they had him laid out in the dining room at home and had a party.

This afternoon we are going to my parents. My DM is cooking a traditional Irish boiled dinner for two of my DBs and their families and us.

Menu should be - corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, turnips, onions, bakery jewish rye, homemade irish bread, and italian bread (for the kids).

Dessert she is making a cake to celebrate DB's 50th...angel food filled with chocolate mousse. One of our favorites from childhood.

Have a good day all.
Ann

Hi all. I'm still around, just going through a drama llama weekend.

We're having homemade veggie soup tonight.

I like this idea. April may work too, but there's one or two weekends I may be out of town. There's one weekend in May I'll be in Boston...if I could just remember which one...:headache:

Menu should be - corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, turnips, onions, bakery jewish rye, homemade irish bread, and italian bread (for the kids).

My friend had most of these food items thrown to/at her at a parade last week. A potato hit her in the face and she broke her nose.

I'm off to go attempt to accomplish some stuff around the house today. Have a great day everybody!
