The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Liamsaunt.....your bread was in my dream last night!

I had another doozie of a dream last night! :lmao:

I forget where I was (I don't know WHY...as AGAIN it was some place I'd never been :confused3 ) but this seal (sea lion?) got hurt, so they put it in the backseat of my car and put the seat belt on it. I was driving around with this seal and then we went to the zoo with it; my brother was with me.

On the way to the zoo, we went past this building where a guy was climbing up the outside of the wall (without harness or anything - just climbing!) We also stopped somewhere to eat, and I forget what all we had, but this loaf of bread that liamsaunt made was part of the meal. It was some good bread! :rotfl2:

When we got to the zoo, I had to buy a ticket for my pet (the seal) to enter with me. So, my brother, the seal, and I are walking around the zoo. We go to the seal area, which is really just a swimming pool, and anybody can swim in it. :confused3 So I let the seal go swimming and I found a squirt gun and I was squirting it as it was swimming around. It was a happy seal. :thumbsup2 Then I woke up. :rotfl:

I dreamt I was Madonna last night.....:confused3

I put my new haircolor up on facebook, ladies. ;)

I really missed Laura today. She should have come over, but my Mom is a freakazoid when it comes to weather.

It looks nice Becky! I'm sure you missed Laura but Mom would have worried so much so I think she made the right choice.

Becky - you should be honored that Bethany had a dream about your bread!

The boy had a sleepover at my brothers last night. This was a big deal.

My brother has made some bad life choices.

But He has worked hard to get himself together so I had to show trust and faith in him.

It was hard, but i turned out great.

The boy loves my brother so much and he was sooooo excited.

They had a total boys night.....

McD's and sweets for dinner, watched tv and played video games till midnight.

And for breakfast....popcorn !!

The boy had a ball and I think it has done my brother good to.

That's a great thing for both of them, especially your brother. I wish him continued success in his life choices.

I dreamt I was Madonna last night.....:confused3

OMG, any details you care to share?:scared1: :rotfl:

Sheryl - Hope you're feeling better and will check in with us tomorrow!

We waited 2 AND A HALF HOURS to ride Imagination. :scared1:

In the rain! This was right after Imagination opened though, so that should be taken into account. I don't remember the parks being closed after 10:30 AM, but that was because we were with my mom. I am sure she had us at the gate well before they opened!

Bethany and Scotlass -- I used to have weird dreams. Having children cured me of those. Now I just sleep.

Liam and Caili are in bed, but they are going to be mighty disappointed if they don't have a snow day tomorrow. They already have plans that involve inviting most of the neighborhood kids here. As you can imagine, I am hoping school is open. ;)

Tonight we had tilapia brown rice and a salad.

I think I have the hang of cooking the brown rice. You add 1/4 c more water and cook for 45 minutes covered no peaking (that is the hard part) then let it rest covered off the heat for 15 minutes. It comes out perfect :thumbsup2

Scotlas I am glad your brother and son had a good time together.

Oh dear, I see my dreams have some competition from across the pond! :lmao:

Hmmmm....are you saying I should have children? :rotfl:

I am hoping school is closed. :sad2: But I doubt it will even be delayed. I have worked here since 2005 and not once have we had a snow day, and the only time we had delays was during the transit strike in December 2005. I think it was 4 days in a row where we started 2 hours late.

Tonight was chili. We are huge Nascar fans here so I decided every Sunday I would make a new chili. Today's was Jimmy Fallons Crockpot Chili. Everyone liked it but I thought it was missing something maybe it just needed more salt.

I have got to find out how to check out Facebook. I hear everyone talking about it but I know nothing about it!

Hi Guys...I am here...bouncing back and forth between here and Facebook. I am finally relaxing after a somewhat busy day. Don't yell at me...

Janice, Yes, this Sat...I cannot believe it. :cloud9: I hope it stays for Saturday. If he changes the date, I think I will have a breakdown.

Becky, Your hair color looks very nice! :thumbsup2

Sheryl, Thanks for checking in. I hope tomorrow finds you feeling even better.

Oh fudge, I lost my train of thought again.

Scotlass, Great to hear your son had a good time at the sleepover. I would love to hear the madonna story too.

Tamara, Let us know if you join FB.

Forgive me if I forgot something. I cannot really concentrate 100%.

Have a good night. Anyone else watching Celebrity Apprentice?

Have a good night. Anyone else watching Celebrity Apprentice?

Thanks for reminding me!!! :goodvibes Are they back in NYC again? I wasn't crazy about the LA version.

OMG. :scared1: The sky has begun it's aerial assault. I just looked out the window maybe 20 minutes ago and nothing was happening. Now, it's snowing like crazy and sticking already!

We were there 12/23 - 12/31 in 2006...it was jam packed and the reason it was bearable was because we went on the DVC tour and got the instant fast passes that were good for the entire time. If it wasn't for them, we probably would not have been able to go on 1/3rd as many attractions. I really loved seeing all the decorations, etc. but probably would not go during that week ever again. DTD was so packed it was like we were packed like sardines.

We went ages ago when it was only MK and Epcot. It was crazy busy, but we did have a great time. I would not go that week with my kids, since they would be disappointed not being able to ride everything, but I think it is a special and fun time to be there.

Laura is underexagerrating. The parks were closed by 10:30 AM for capacity. We waited 2 AND A HALF HOURS to ride Imagination. :scared1:

Hmm. I'm impatient and won't wait more than 45 minutes for my very favorite rides anymore... I wonder how jammed Universal and Busch Gardens are? We thought about doing those things most of the time... I may go post on some other boards to get a good idea on the crowds there, too.

I was :scared1: at the holiday hotel prices.

Maybe we can do the beach, Busch Gardens, Universal, Gatorland, etc and avoid the Disney parks for the most part :confused3

Hey...

We had pizza for dinner.

That sounds like a great thing for both of them! I'm glad you gave your brother a chance to care for him, I know you must have been a wee bit anxious about it.

I was planning to start my crash diet tomorrow  but my calendar is filling with meetings around food!! Tomorrow I have lunch, coffee, and dinner meetings. My sister's wedding is in 2 months and I need to drop a size or two if I can before then. I've really packed on the pounds over the last couple of months and my clothes aren't fitting :sad2: These food meetings are most of my issue!

My plan was to do the Special K diet, watch what I eat for dinner, and track my calories on Sparkpeople. It's worked before for me - I just can't do it longterm - but I really just want to look good at her special day. :confused3 Any suggestions?

I was taking sudafed and robitussin as approved by my OB, but the Dr. at the walkin told me he disagreed and I should not take anything but tylenol and fluids!:scared1: He made me feel so darn guilt I stopped taking everything, but I do think my OB is the best around and know what they are talking about.

Never listen to a walk-in Dr. over an OB. Your OB is not going to let you take anything that will harm that baby!

Anyone gone to WDW during Christmas?

I have, this past Christmas time. We went from the 20th and I came home on the 26th. It wasn't too badly crowded at first. We went to Epcot Christmas Eve and couldn't get on Spaceship Earth, the line was all the way up and down both sides. Christmas Day we didn't go anywhere but my sister did have some information that said the best parks to go to were AK and HS. A friend of hers who was there also said that they were at AK and they walked on everything, no waits, no lines! :thumbsup2

It's snowing here, looks like we may not have school tomorrow. Several school systems to our southeast have already closed.

I just finished watching Celebrity Apprentice. Yikes, that is an interesting group of individuals. I can't wait to see how it plays out.

Well, as of now we are open and on time. :headache: There are 303 area school/school district closings. Mine is NOT one of them.
(Okay, that number is now up to 423!)

The news is telling everyone to stay home because of the hazardous conditions, yet the schools are open. Great, let's have one of the most vulnerable portions of the population out in this weather - with wind gusts up to 60mph. Somebody has lost their mind.

:cool1: :woohoo: :dance3: :cheer2:

Well, they waited until 5:45, but they DID IT!!!!
THEY CLOSED THE SCHOOLS!!!!!

I had to call my friend to tell her not to get on the train yet because I think I had heard they closed the schools, and I needed to confirm it. Well, Channels 1, 2, 4, 5, 12, and 1010 have all reported it! Still waiting for the city website and the schools website, but WOOHOO!!! And my friend said a school bus driver told her it was closed!!

From the official school website: "New York City public schools are closed today due to snow and wind conditions."

OMG I kid you not, I almost started crying tears of joy!!!! :lmao:

Bethany, enjoy your little miracle day off...someone in the school department must have had a moment of insanity:lmao: !

We have about 6 inches right now and it is still coming down.

We are staying home today, I am starting to go stir crazy. I am excited to actually get out tomorrow to go to the OB. It is just a routine exam. Once again my poor DH has to go out and deliver meds in this crappy weather.

Not sure what I will make myself for dinner. DH will have his usual workday sandwich, leftover chicken cutlet sub.

Ann

Ann

I know, right?!? :lmao: The funniest thing is, the snow was stopping when they canceled school. However, the next "moisture band" is about to roll through. Moisture bands? What is this? A snowicane? Actually, it's starting up again now.

Okay, question for those of you with radiators....the one behind me is dripping water like nobody's business. I put a cup under it and have to empty it at least out every 5 minutes or it overflows. The floor is already wet and it's turning black. If I turn the knob on the radiator towards "closed", MORE water actually starts spraying out! :scared1:

I think I'm going to have to have the super come up here, which I DON'T want because this room is host to the "staging area" for things we are getting rid of so it's a bit of a mess. :scared:

Looks like this: (Guess I oughta find a way to sweep up that dust! :rolleyes1 )

Good Morning!

Schools and work are closed here too.

Ann, Hope you're feeling better.

Bethany, I would call the super. It sounds like you have black mold or mildew growing. Black mold can be harmful.

We are having sweet and sour chicken, rice and french green beans.

Have a great day!

Schools are closed here and the snow is still coming down. I am feeling a bit cooped in too, Ann. I am hoping Caili has skating this afternoon, so we get out of the house. I think the snow is supposed to stop before then.

Bethany -- I am glad you get the day off. I would call about the radiator. Not only can the water damage your floor, it can also damage the ceiling of the apartment under you.

Lauren -- I'm glad you made it through the storm without a Bean appearance. I was a little worried about you. Low pressure systems tend to increase traffic in delivery rooms.

Dinner here will depend on whether we go to the rink or not.

Good Snowy Morning All!

We lost power yesterday is I missed a lot.....Jeff hit a pole on the next street and kicked power out . He is fine but Buddy thinks Marisa's new Pilot is totaled.....:scared1::scared1:. Someone hit Marisa a few weeks ago, the guy had a bogus ID, was driving an unregistered motor vehicle, was in the country illegally...and their insurance is refusing to pay until they hear from their client. No....their client has not called or responded. Anyway, Marisa has damage that their adjuster saw and the cop said the accident was due to the faulty equipment. She is beyond furious.

Anyway...Bethany :yay::yay::yay:glad you are home! I have to tellyou, yourp post make me :rotfl::rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao:!

ABout the mildew- tell the super to fix it or you will have the health department check to see if it is safe to breathe.

Laura and Becky- am I your Mother????? :rotfl2:I would be saying the same thing, it would be easier for you to stay home than have to talk to me about traveling ;). When Donny was younger adn working two towns down, maybe 15 minutes tops, a coworke saw a pillow and duffle in his truck and wanted to know why he was camping out. He told him it was easier to just pack for a night then to explain to me that he would be fine.

Aimee- I have not been Disney during the Christmas Holidays since the kids were little but even then it was horrible. We left this year on December 21 which was a Sunday and it was super busy on Friday adn Saturday. Saturday night in the MK was a nightmare, DHS that night was the same. We went in to see the Osborne Lights and while it was worth seeing the crowds were "bumper to bumper". That was around 6 PM. I don;t know how that compares to normal busy toimes but I only go in the off seasons so it was :scared: to me.

Dinner tonight is a beef and bulgar casserole and a salad. I had made it for last night's dinner but no oven to finish it so I don;t need to cook tonight. I had made an American Chop Suey for tonight's dinner in case we lost power but we had that last night.

Talk to you later, Nola will be here is about 30 minutes, her Mom has to go in today :confused3 becasue thtere are still patients who have not called to cancel.
