The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

We had a great night celebrating Mariah's birthday. So glad we went back to this restaurant, we obviously ordered the wrong things our first time there, it was excellent tonight. Sheryl - you were so right the seared tuna salad was amazing(Alligator Pear)! For those of you who aren't on facebook, here's a pic of Kyle & Mariah:
.

I'm glad you all had such a good time. They make a beautiful couple.

Today is mine and Scott's 5th wedding anniversary. We are going to TGI Friday's to indulge in a Jack Daniel's steak. One of my favorites. We may go to a movie afterward.

Happy Anniversary. Have a great weekend!

Good Morning!

Not awake yet...so bear with me. Thank you all for the c section info and stories. I think I am calmer about it now. The doctor did not call me back yet so I may just wait till Tuesday to talk to him.

I had three sections and that was so many years ago that the whole thing is way better and easier. Please do not be afraid, Marisa's section was fast and her recovery was fine. Now rest and take care.

Kat, what a nice looking couple, they look happy.

Tonight is my DB 50th birthday party. I am not going I am to sick. DH is going to go by himself. I am going to go to the walkin later this am, I am afraid I have bronchitis. The weekend started out terrible. We are also having trouble with our heat, and a DirectTV box went out.

Ann

:hug: Happy birthday to your brother! I feel so badly that you are so sick. I hope that the Dr can give you meds and that they kick in fast!

Morning all. DH let me sleep in this morning, and I'm not quite awake yet.

Not sure WFD tonight. I think my sis and I are gonna take the kids to this new Chuck E Cheese-like place here. So, food won't be great, but we'll have fun. Okay, time to be productive. IL's are coming next week and the guest room hasn't been looked at in ages. Better start the clean up now:rolleyes:

Good thing you got some rest if you are heading to "that place" :lmao:

Dinner is food from "that place" for me too ;) Donny's GF little girl is having her birthday at Great Escape and we are all invited. I am a little afraid, her family, her ex and his family, Donny and us (minus Buddy who is setting taps today and will make sure he is not home until we leave, the chicken!) will be all in the same place. Marisa said she is drinking as soon as we get home and I am taking Advil before we go.

SIde note- all of those wonderful birthday/ anniversary smilies are awesome!

Bethany -- What a week! That is certainly NOT normal here. If that ever happened in Caili's class, she would not want to go back to school.

Ann -- I am sorry you are still sick. Hopefully, you can get some meds to help you feel better.

Kathy -- Kyle and Mariah are a beautiful couple!

Happy Anniversary, Lindsay and Scott!

Nancy -- I hope things go well at the party.

I'm not sure what is for dinner tonight. I am taking Caili to get new shoes, so we will go to the store while we are out. It sounds like our usual visit to my parents' house may be in jeopardy tomorrow...the weather report is calling for snow and sleet. Yuck.

Ok this is the second time I'm out of bed. I have a nasty headache I should have taken something earlier but I didn't.

I have errands to run so I'll have see what looks good at the store.

Kathy I meant to say earlier Kyle and Mariah look so happy. Very cute couple. I am glad you enjoyed your meal also. :thumbsup2

Ann I hope you don't have bronchitis it is rought enough not pregnant I can't imagine having it pregnant.

Nancy I hope you survive today. I can only imagine the size of the cocktail Marrisa will have. I luckily don't have to go to that place anymore. Alex and his friends are too old. :cheer2: Sorry that place gives me the jitters.:scared:

SORRY - for the size of my pics, I've yet to master the art of re-sizing on photobucket.

Tonight we are attending a going away party for a couple that is moving. We'll eat whatever is there. I am supposed to bring something, too, but am not sure what... hopefully something I can grab on the way!

Bethany, wow--what a week. I could not handle that.

Glynis, for risotto cakes, I just take the leftover risotto and mix an egg into it, then shape into cakes, coat with breadcrumbs and pan fry until browned. I usually put the cakes in the fridge for a while after coating them to help them firm up.

I had some other stuff to say but I forgot to use the multi quote..argh.

I did make cocktails last night. Here is John's. It is a combination of tequila, lemon juice, lime juice, lemon sugar, and peach syrup:

Here is mine. It has vodka, grenadine, lemon juice, and sugar:

I also baked a loaf of bread:

Here is dinner. I ended up not making the risotto cakes because I am out of arborio rice, and I left off the beans.

We ate pretty early and then watched movies all night. It was a chick flick triple header: The Duchess, Mama Mia, and Dirty Dancing. Our friend that was supposed to come over for dinner this evening cancelled on us, so we'll probably watch more movies tonight. After yesterday's choices, I bet John is going to make me watch Transformers or something like that.

Not sure WFD yet. Maybe chicken, or spaghetti and meatballs.

Please rest & take care of yourself.......did you call the doctor? Do you need a chest xray? Very concerning with you & that little sweetie being down & out! Please keep us updated!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY LINDSAY & SCOTT!

I'm one of the few people that has a closet full of Ambien CR, Lunesta, Sonata and they all keep me up and leave me with a hangover headache the next day......My body is really screwed up.

Bethany you need to treat yourself well today after a week that is outrageous to say the least. Take a nap, go for a pedicure, read a book, think of you!

Tomorrow I'm supposed to fly to Florida for the house hunt & if all goes well I will be done by Tuesday night & we will drive up to Disney late Tuesday night and I will fly home from there Friday night...we were able to get a Boardwalk room!!!! Nothing like Disney with my closest friend & a 3 year old to make you smile.

I figure 3 full days of house hunting will be enough for this visit:confused3

Dinner plans have changed slightly, grocery store had some nice arugula so I snatched a pear and some gorgonzola for a salad and nixed the pasta salad.

Good luck house hunting. Let me know how it goes. :)

Bethany - I'm not quite sure what to say here, I'm speechless.:sad2:

Oh, Bethany!

I am so sorry to hear about your horrible week. I was a teacher for 5 years before having kids, and some of the stuff I saw has soured me on ever going back!

So, for what it's worth, I'm with you in spirit! You are an important person in so many lives, and many times, you won't even know it!

I am debating trying to find something else to do. I figure I should give it another chance in another school before I totally give it up.

And I try to remember that but sometimes it's sooo hard!

Bethany I am exhausted just reading your post. I wish I had some words of wisdom for you.

Thank you.

No, my friend, that kind of week is not normal for a lot of schools. But I think for many inner city schools it is all too common. I honestly do not know how you do it, the chaos you try to control while trying to teach and mentor the children has got to be exhausting.

My head hurts just thinking about your job this week.:hug:

Bethany--hugs to you! I can't even imagine teaching young kids these days, and not under those circumstances!

I have worked in childcare for over 20 years now and I have seen some really outrageous stuff, I know how you feel!

And normal depends on the school and how many children have severe emotional and mental problems. :sad2: Which I have come to realize in a lot, not all but a lot, of the cases is the fault of parents who either A. don't care what their kids do B. couldn't see the forest even if they ran into the tree, the whole "not my child" mentality and lastly the C. parents, those that can't tell little Susie no because they don't want Susie scarred for life or worse, angry at them!:sad2:

Some of the parents are trying, but they don't know what to do anymore. It's really scary when you think what is going to happen to these kids that are growing up with no boundaries; no respect for themselves, others, and especially authority; no self control; and no remorse for their actions. This kid that explodes constantly will pick a fight with ANYBODY and doesn't know when to stop. He always thinks people are out to get him, a "victim" type mentality. Something needs to change with him, because the way he acts currently, I can't see him getting really far in life because he is either going to end up dead from picking a fight with the wrong person, or in jail for the same reason.

At least I know that my turn for dealing with these really difficult children will end on June 26. Their parents in this for the long haul.

Thank you everybody for the encouragement. :goodvibes :grouphug:

Yes, I talked to him yesterday...briefly, since he called two minutes before I was putting dinner on the table. He is doing well. His course starts on Sunday. This week, he took a pre-PT test and passed all elements, so he thinks he is ready. Thanks for asking!

Glad to hear Greg is doing well!

I did talk to my friend that had all c sections and she talked me off the ledge. And Kat has me pretty calm now too.

Can I just tell y'all that I have been having more and more cramping/tightening/contractions...anyone think I'll go early?

Glad to hear you're less anxious about the c-sections if you have to have one. As for WHEN the baby comes, time will tell, no? It's getting exciting! :cool1:

Dinner tonight will hopefully be at Wegmens. My BFF and I are going to IKEA then going to Wegmans.

Oooohh....IKEA!!! The other day I was walking to the train from work, and from about a half block away I see this lady holding a box. I said to my friend "oooh, those look like IKEA cinnamon rolls!" Sure enough, we get closer and that's what they were! :rotfl:

Hmm...I don't kow Kathy. Tuna with creamed corn, wild rice, and spinach, I guess. Your salad sounds delicious. I love pears and gorgonzola. Wish I had some in the house!

I am making the spaghetti and meatballs, with cheesy garlic bread and salad for dinner tonight. Right now--I'm starving!

Oh, and Happy Anniversay Lindsay and Scott!
