The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Just back from running a million errands, yuck!

We are having grilled tuna (well, we are going to try to grill it, not sure it's warm enough), risotto cakes, spinach, green/wax beans, and corn tonight.

This week, he took a pre-PT test and passed all elements, so he thinks he is ready. Thanks for asking!

You didn't speak to your doctor, so try not to get worried. (I know, easier said than done!) They base the c-section decision on the crown measurement, not on weight. Can you call the doctor and get an opinion?

Glad to hear Greg is doing well!

The crown measurement and the belly are what have me nervous...one of them is measuring 98% and on my readout it has a star next to it!!! :scared1: I have a call into the doctor but he was still at the hospital when I called. He is in practice on his own so he is constantly running.

I did talk to my friend that had all c sections and she talked me off the ledge. And Kat has me pretty calm now too.

I hope you're making one of your cocktails to celebrate the day off too! Have one for me.

Don't worry about the c-section, I had one and recovery was only a few weeks for me, in fact I was back to exercising after two weeks and back to work after three weeks.:goodvibes

I am sure I will be the same, well, hopefully. I will definitely be taking all the meds they offer. I did fine after my foot and gallbladder surgeries so I do have a pretty good tolerance for pain...I think! ;) Thank you my friend and yes, I am sure you will have a fabulous time tonight.

Can I just tell y'all that I have been having more and more cramping/tightening/contractions...anyone think I'll go early?

SHERYL, I hope you made out OK today at the doctor...

I forgot to mention that you have competition...While I was in Walmart today and woman stopped me (I thought for the usual "Oh, you're tall. Can you reach this for me?") Well, she proceeded to say that she liked my lipstick and she was a MK consultant (mind you, I think this is the same woman that stopped me a year or so ago and wanted to take before and after pics of me). I told her that I am wearing MK and I have a very good friend that is my consultant. ;) I love the stuff I tell ya! I have never been more happy with makeup. Anyhoo, thought you'd get a chuckle. Do you think maybe I looked bad and in need of a makeover? I didn't think of it that way...

Just wanted to let everyone know that Gretchen says "Hi", she's swamped with work right now.

Too cute to be scary...but he tries !!

Have a good day youse guys x

He's ADORABLE!

Good Morning!

One more week of this going for tests crap!!! :cool1: I have the growth ultrasound today which should determine c section or not. I am a little freaked about that possibility and the recovery time.

Don't be freaked out by the thought of a c-section. I've had 2 (the twins and Timothy), and they were much easier for me to recover from than either Katie or Jacob. The important thing is to stay on top of pain management. Keep right on schedule with the pain meds while you're in the hospital, and walk around as much as possible. That really helps speed along the recovery.

Could you please tell me how you make your risotto cakes? I just tried a corn risotto recipe from the crock pot 365 blog and it was yummy. I bet it would be great as risotto cakes!

Seriously, Lauren, the c-section is nothing to worry about. I was really nervous before my section with the twins, but as they started, I realized that I could really enjoy the whole thing more than with a regular labor. By the time they got to the twins, I was joking around with my doctor and we had a really good time. Once it was over, I recovered quite quickly. It really depends on how soon you can get up and about.

With Timothy, I was actually excited to have the section. From the time they wheeled me in to the operating room, to the time Timothy was born was 20 minutes. They spent more time setting up the room than the amount of time I was in it. Again, the recovery was not bad at all. The first couple of days at home were the worst. I wanted to just bounce back, and it took me a while to realize that I couldn't do all the things I wanted to. I finally just let Alan and the kids take care of me, bring me the baby, do the cooking and cleaning, etc., and things were just fine. I'm sure that Tom and A will be the same! They are going to be so excited that they will do whatever you want them to.

If you want to PM me to talk about it any more, feel free!

Wow, with my personal posting party going on, I totally forgot to post what's for dinner. Well, since this is the first day in quite a while that everyone is feeling good, I may try the mini shepherd's pies that I was going to do on Tuesday. Salad on the side, and double chocolate orange brownies for dessert. I made a batch of them for Jacob's cub scout dinner last night, and the kids requested more for tonight. I guess they didn't eat enough of them last night. I decided to give in, since Mary and I didn't get any yesterday.

Lauren My section was easy. By the time I got home I just needed advil. Of course I was tried so I slept when Alex slept.:thumbsup2

Tonight is marinated flank steak roasted potatoes and green beans.

scotlass The Boy is so handsome. Sorry his scarey look didn't make it this far across the water

Lauren - Everything Glynis said is so true! It's a breeze and c-section babies are beautiful!:thumbsup2

Just a check-in. I have been either on the couch or in bed all day.
I will have alot to read tomorrow. I wish all of you and your families well.
Miss you ladies!

Ann

Kathy- I had to laugh at the beautiful c-section baby comment. Of course when my daughter was born we thought she was gorgeous. Then we got the pictures back, no fancy digital cameras for us in 2000. I don't know what we were thinking, that kid's head was so squished! Yes, c-section babies are beautiful, I think that's why they have hats on the babies! Now I'm back to thinking she's the most beautiful little girl. She got her first pair of glasses last week, they had to adjust them because her eyelashes were hitting the lenses.

Lauren- I really wish I had a c-section, I think I should have but they estimated her at 7 pounds, not the nine she was. Maybe it's the unknown that's scary, besides then you get to stay in the hospital longer and you'll be feeling better by the time you go home.

We miss you too, good thoughts and prayers coming your way.

All of our babies are beautiful! That is amazing about your DD's eyelashes, must be beautiful.:cutie: Kyle teases Mariah that his eyelashes are longer than hers, his are ridiculously long for a boy.

Lauren - I cant advise you personally about c-sections. I had a very easy and very quick ( 20 mins all in :thumbsup2 ) labour with the boy.But you have some good friends here reassuring youse it will be fine.Just remember whats best for you and whats best for the baby is..well..best !!

Thank youse all for your nice comments on the boy.

He is cute,he is handsome (and boy does he know it,god help me when he's 16 !!)...but he is also a very sweet, lovin wee dude.

We watched AI tonight.

Challenged DH and the boy to guess who would go through.

And I won.....i got all the finalists right.....Imagine that !! ;) :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 Sounds like it to me! That would be great if Bean decided to come on his own rather than going through the inducing. My kids were both procrastinators and waited until the day before I was scheduled for induction to decide they were ready.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Gretchen says "Hi", she's swamped with work right now.

Thanks for letting us know. I was wondering where she was.

Just a check-in. I have been either on the couch or in bed all day.

That doesn't sound like you are feeling better. At least you are resting though. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

Robin -- It is a good thing babies' heads change. Liam had horrible flat-head for a while from sleeping on his back, but once he started moving around, it improved. Your daughter sounds like a cutie!

Kyle teases Mariah that his eyelashes are longer than hers, his are ridiculously long for a boy.

Boys always get the long lashes and don't appreciate them. Liam has longer lashes than Caili.

Dinner tonight was beer-battered cod, onion rings and sweet potato fries. Not the healthiest meal, but everyone was happy.
