The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

AUNTIES,

Quick Update:

The hospital called and they are running behind. I am now scheduled for Noon...have to leave here at 9:30.

Thanks for all the good wishes!

Love the bassinet, Sasha obviously does too.;) I'll be thinking of you and praying for you today!

Happy Birthday Bean !!!!

Has anyone heard from Wendie?

Not a word, starting to worry.

WFD - Taking a container of gumbo out of the freezer. Going out to lunch with a crazy bunch of women from the NOLA thread. I'm taking my camera along for pics of the gals and food porn of course!

My thoughts and prayers are with Lauren, Tom and Baby Bean right now! It's so exciting to be on this end of it!

Timothy had me up early this morning, so I decided to put together a special breakfast for the kids. It's called Caramel Apple Bread Pudding. I've never tried to make it before but it's always intrigued me. So, I did it! It's in the oven now, and smells incredible! If it tastes as good as it smells, I'll post the recipe.

Dinner tonight is up in the air. I've got some hamburger thawed out that I need to use, so unless Alan and I go out to eat, I'll do some kind of casserole. I may do the casserole anyway, so the kids will have something other than mac and cheese to eat!

I hope you NOLA gals have a great meet! I can't wait to see the pics and hear the report!

Last night's wedding was so wonderful! My nephew Dan has been divorced for about a year now (his ex cheated on him with his brother), and he's been really lonely. About 3 months ago, he met Carrie, a widow (her husband died when they'd been married just over a year. That was 4 years ago). Dan has a 2 year old son, and Carrie has a 4 year old girl (born just months before her daddy died). Dan and Carrie hit it off right away, and last night they became a family. The 2 kids stood right by their parents during the ceremony, and as Dan and Carrie kissed, Taya tugged her mom's skirt and asked, "Are we married, now?" It was so precious!

The only really odd thing was that Dan's ex wife crashed the reception. She said it was her time to have Noah, but it just seemed really odd and rude to me!

I hope everyone has good days! We are planning on taking the kids to a museum after we get the house cleaned. Hopefully, that won't take us too long!

Happy Birthday Little Bean! I cannot wait to see pictures.. Good Luck and Best wishes to the new family!

Bethany- I'm glad that your apt thing worked out. I am still concerned with the conditions that you work under.

Glynis- what a nice story....minus the ex! I am so glad your nephew and his new wife found each other.

Laura- I would love a fish fry like yours! YUMMY!

Kathy and Sheryl- have a great time today! Take lot's of pictures to share with us.

Dinner last night was good. I had eggs and a multi grain sandwich thin for dinner. It was really good!

We had out own version of excitement this morning. Buddy had this old decrepit excuse for a shed and he would never get rid of it. He keeps all of his treasures buried in and around it.....Thank God we have understanding neighbors! ( They actually have gotten a lot of chuckles watching him try to part with his stuff and then give up... every piece of junk tells him a story I guess) Anyway we are having several trees taken down and so he finally agreed to let the poor old thing go. Nola's Dad came by with his little steam shovel and crushed it and hauled the rusty bucket of junk away :yay::yay:He will be in mourning for a week or so.....I see a rusty caved in shack.....he sees his tin shed complete with doors that stay on and a roof that does not leak. I see tetanus waiting to bite me and he sees a storage space with tools and engines and supplies all tucked away :confused3 If you could see his truck you would understand, he parts with nothing.....it all has memories and they all belong to him.

As much as this confuses me I tolerate it because I figure if he looks at a 25 year old rusty bucket of bolts attached to a motor and sees his brand new truck then I figure that somewhere in that selective memory bank of his he can still remember that I am not a 52 YO gal who started falling apart and is not running around in a size 5 anymore :rotfl::rotfl:

I'm having a really hard time concentrating on anything, I can't get Lauren off of my mind. 12:00 can't come soon enough.

Bethany No you are never done cleaning. I was trying to be a half full kind of person. I don't want to spend my whole weekend cleaning. It is raining cats and dogs here so there will be plenty of mess to clean. I may try to put boots on the dogs

I know. I am supposed to be cleaning but you can see where I am :rolleyes1

I keep seeing Sasha in the bassinet. That can be a good thing. Sassy, my calico only wanted Buddy but once Kady started coming over she was always right next to her. No matter where Kady was, Sassy was there too. Kady would pick her up by the ears, the tail the whiskers....she came back for more. If Kady was sleeping on the bed Sassy would get between her and the edge. When I set the crib up she kept jumping in, we kept taking her out. Now she does the same with Nola, except her crib. Sassy is too old to be jumping like that. I think some cats are like little guardian Angels for babies....she sure does watch over the little ones. Maybe Sasha will be that kind of watch kitty for our little Bean Sprout.

Oh Nan, that's so cute.:goodvibes

Lauren just texted me to see if her cell was working in the hospital, no baby yet......:hyper:

I'll be heading out to our NOLA lunch meet soon so I'll post an update when I get home.

Happy Birthday Bean!

Glynis -- That is such a sweet story from the wedding.

Sheryl -- All I do for the fish batter is beer, flour and salt...I just keep adding beer to the flour until it is about the same consistency as pancake batter. I used the same batter for the green beans and zucchini. For the onion rings, it is just flour and medium grind cornmeal...about the same amounts for each. I am so precise in my cooking, aren't I?

It is beautiful here today! Unfortunately, we are spending most of the day going back and forth to the gymnastics center. The kids both had a lesson this morning, and Caili has a makeup class at 1. I'm not sure what is for dinner yet...I'll figure it out on the way back from the class.

Hey all! Was just checking in to see if there were any bean updates! ILs are here this weekend, so we've been super busy and eating out every meal. We're heading out in a bit for lunch at Bonefish Grill. BBL to check to see if we have a baby yet!

:goodvibes Where are you baby?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

We are anxiously awaiting over here too!!!!!!!

yay for Bean day! :)
It is beautiful here today, I second that Laura! The snow i just about all melted in our yard and we have windows open..what a nice change from last weekend!
WFD: I am going over a girlfriends house for appetizers and wine..my contribution will be a baked brie (crecent roll style) with blackberry Harry and David jam in it...
Have a wonderful Saturday!

I'm so excited about meeting our newest member today! Many prayers going out to Lauren and her family

I had to work this morning (at work by 830... grrrr) but I was home a lot sooner than I thought. Tonight will be the salmon and quinoa that was supposed to be on the menu for last night.

Haven't decided what to add to the salmon before grilling. I hate to mask the good flavor of the fish with a marinade but figure it needs something. Any ideas? :confused3

I came to see if there were any updates...still waiting, I guess.

Salmon tastes good with a lot of different flavorings -- honey/mustard, herb butters, Becky makes one that is a maple/soy glaze. I've even just marinated it in Italian dressing, grilled then put some butter on at the end. Salmon has enough flavor to it that you can put some bold flavors on it, and it will still taste good. If you have any herb rubs you like, you can use that. No matter what you decide, I would put some olive oil, salt and pepper on the fish and let it marinate in that for at least a half hour before grilling.

We're having some sort of pasta dish tonight. The kids didn't want to go to the store. They wanted more time outside and I can't blame them.

Still waiting...Kath couldn't you have picked a diff. day for your NOLA meet.
I am assuming we should have a little bean by now but Kath is unable to update us. Prayers and much love going out to Lauren & family!

WFD- :goodvibes grilling on this beautiful day. Boneless BBQ ribs, saffron rice and mexican corn.

Sorry it took so long.

Lauren is doing fine, big baby boy - 8 lbs. 9 oz, 22 inches born at 2:00 eastern time!:cheer2: :dance3: :yay:
