The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Just a quick note to let you all know that I will be offline for a couple of days. DH is loaning my computer to a colleague, so keep the chatter down for me, ok? I don't know how I'll survive without you guys to keep me sane! Guess I'll just have to hold conversations with the voices in my head!:lmao:

We'll miss you!!!! I would be a basket case without my computer!!!!:headache:

Happy Valentines Day!!!

Stephanie - :yay: :yay: Your guy Kris made it to the final 36, I'll be pulling for him!:thumbsup2

WooHoo! We're really excited. The news was joking tonight that he's had about 23 sec. total of airtime since AI started season 8. At least now he'll get equal airtime! Maybe ya'll will get a glimpse of my hometown if he makes it far enough! Tonight was a fun night of giggles with my sis over some pizza and beer!

Contempo Cafe (new CS at Contemorary) awesome cupcakes! :cloud9:
Yak and Yeti
Le Cellier
The Morrocan counter service
Sunshine Seasons
The Boardwalk Bakery
Flying Fish
O'Hana
The Big River Grille and Brewery- Food was okay but that place sure doesn't sound like it's name.

Yummy spots! I was not impressed with Big River at all when we went.

I went to the doctor on Monday, she had me go back in on Tuesday for blood tests. They had to take the blood from the back of my hand because it was not flowing out of my elbow. :confused3 Anyways, the things they were testing for were all negative, so yay! :goodvibes Apparently, it's just a virus. A really obnoxious one, but it should be on it's way out soon. This is day 13 of this, so it should be making it's exit any day now.... I am feeling noticeably better, so that is something. Still not 100%, but I should be soon. Especially since next week is a week off for me. :woohoo:

Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm missing people (again:headache: ). I cannot remember everything I meant to say. I suppose I should take notes as I read this thread. :lmao:

I hope you get to feeling better soon! You should do the multiquote as you read the thread - it's been a lifesaver for me!

There are 14 little ones in CA who are in need of some sane parents. :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Ain't that the truth! :sad2:

You need a phone to surf on!

I have a legitimate WDW food question!! I am going to Orlando for a conference in less than 2 weeks (:yay: :yay: :yay: ) and we are tacking on a couple days for WDW and to see my mom. It'll be me and my colleague. She hasn't been in 10 years, and we have limited time, so she doesn't want to do any table service except one and she wants me to surprise her on someplace fun.

I've been to most restaurants and I'm not sure what would be the best place to take a first time visitor. She is a Chili's kind of person - not fancy food. She loves sports and anything fun. She does not want characters. We love Raglan Road but she's not the bar atmosphere kind of person. I thought maybe Sci Fi or 50s PT?

Hey....

Having big probs with my computer so im having to post from work.

My computer expert cus is coming down tonight to try and fix it.

My mom called last night to say she had found a crock pot cook book in the bottom of a drawer....i think she got it the same time as the never used crock pot !!

i hope to have some delights to share with youse guy soon...

take care x

Aimee - I was using the multi-quote feature before, I need to get back to using it again.

I'm like Glynis - I won't be on much over the next week beginning Saturday. I'll check in through my phone, but this thread is really hard to keep up with on that little screen!

scotlass - I hope your computer gets better. My DH had to gut mine out and re-install everything a few weeks ago. Works great now, but what a pain!

Well, I need to get going. I have this alarm clock that I clearly do not know how to use. :lmao: I tried to hit snooze for like 10 minutes and ended up getting up an hour later. :confused3 I've only had this clock since like 2003, so you think I'd know which buttons to push by now! :rotfl2:

quick morning check in......and I think my last until we get back late on the 24th. The 25th my bf's mother is having hernia surgery so I will be at the hospital that morning with her. I will check back in on the 25th at some point, and I will try to check in at least once over vacation if I turn my computer on.
Kris wants to leave earlier then planned, (a bit anxious) so he is only taking a nap from 5-7, and we will leave at 7:30.
I hope you all have a great couple of weeks, I will miss you all so much.
Please if you could spare a few prayers for me, (I hate asking for myself) Sat and Sun, as I will be dealing with my father and cleaning out my mother's things. I would very much appreciate it.
Love and hugs to all of you!!:)

Kat--If we get a baby bean Text me....or if anything else important happens. Thank you my friend!

New crockpot recipe - Steak, potatoes & carrots in a wine/mushroom sauce. Side of creamed spinach.

Have a great day all!:goodvibes

Good Morning!

The weather is so strange today...the winds are eerily (sp) blowing and the sky is very gray.

Dinner tonight will be chicken ala king over rice and a side salad. Can you tell we love this and it's easy? I have been making it alot lately.

***********
Nancy, I am so sorry to hear Buddy's Aunt is not doing well. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

Nancy and Marisa, So sorry to hear about Trouble. It is so hard to lose a furbaby...I am glad that Kady is taking it pretty well. Andrew seems to be the same way.

DH was pleased to see we were actually eating. He is harmless do not be afraid if he occasionally lurks.

Hi Ron! Psst, you need to add a baby ticker! ;)

Please if Lauren has our baby bean while I am on vacation...someone text me all the details of our little one!!
Kat, I think you have my cell number right? PM me if you don't!

You are all making me nervous now thinking the baby will come sooner...3/9 is soon enough so please stop thinking that way!!! ;) We will be sure to get in touch if he comes earlier...Hope the bday party was fun! Have a wonderful trip!!!

Well, I am cooking tonight--but not for my family. A good friend of mine had a baby last weekend and I'm taking dinner over to her and her family. I'm headed out with my sister (however, we'll probably just stay in and watch AI tonight--one of the guys is from our hometown and is one of the worship leaders at our church! Kris Allen is his name--praying he makes it through tonight!)

Would you like to move to NJ? I was so glad Kris got through...we will be routing for him!

Crap, a small plane crashed here in town...not too sure what happened yet. Looks like on someone's front lawn.

I did not hear anything else last night. What I did hear was there were 2 injuries...let's hope the people are OK.

They had to take the blood from the back of my hand because it was not flowing out of my elbow. :confused3

Sheryl was right about this. If you are a person that has trouble getting blood drawn, you need to plump up your veins by drinking lots of water prior...I had this problem early in the pregnancy...they tried about 7 times then resorted to the hand which can be painful.

Glad you are feeling a bit better.

We loved Yak & Yeti.

We really enjoyed Y&Y too!

I saw that. How about a 14 year old. He is a good vaccumer and he will make sure all your drawers and cabinets are closed. The child is obsessive about being neat all I can say is he is not like me or his father:rotfl:

I saw that too! KATHY, Would you like me to ship a soon to be 11 year old down?

Janice, Would Alex like to do an internship in NJ this summer? I will feed him good and get him a pool membership! :goodvibes

There are 14 little ones in CA who are in need of some sane parents. :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

LOL!!! :rotfl: Good one!

Don't know if anyone saw these this morning but they sound pretty good:

The Honeysuckle Rouge

Sparkling Sunset

Are you trying to torture me??? We are going to a party on Sunday at one of the girls' house that works with Tom. He was telling me...her husband is going to be making Appletinis and she now bakes so she is making a great big cake...Ah, yeah Hun, thanks but I can't have either. Torturous people...:sad2:

You need a phone to surf on!

I thought maybe Sci Fi or 50s PT?

Speaking of phones...the phone I drowned 2 weeks ago is now working again!!! :woohoo:

If I had to choose between Sci Fi and 50's, I would probably do 50's. We went there in Nov spur of the moment and the food was pretty good. The pot roast was very very similar to my Mom's that I have posted here.

Becky and Sheryl, Great pics!

Have a great day all!

very bad night last night! We are awake but none of us got much sleep.
DS went to bed at 8pm and got up at 12, 2:30, and 4:15am. He got up this morning at 7:10am. Yawn, I feel sick to my stomach because of the lack of sleep. I will be here today but excuse me if I can not absorb or keep up with conversations once again.

WFD- pork chops and who knows what else!

Ann

I'm so sorry Ann. Don't worry about keeping up here, if anything major happens I'll pm you. Get some rest.

Pit the dates wrap a piece of bacon around it, you only need enough bacon to go around once, secure with toothpick and bake till bacon is done. If you want to get really fancy you can stuff a nut of your choosing into the pit hole as well.

You know what else is really yummy? Stuff a piece of parmesean cheese in the pit hole, wrap in bacon, and bake. I like it even better than the nuts.

I just made panini last night and forgot to take a picture. Don't worry though, I am about to bombard you with food photos from the trip. I'm hoping to finish editing tonight--John has a business dinner.

I'm trying a recipe from the new Food and Wine magazine tonight--it is a mustard coated roasted chicken sliced and served on seared bok choy with arugula salad on top.

Ann- Don't worry about keeping up, just take care of yourself and try to rest when you can.

Wendi1- Prayers and  headed your way.

Glynis- we'll miss you. See you as soon as you can come back on

Stephanie- I have AI on DVR but have not had a chance to watch it. I cannot wait to see your hometown guy!

Lauren- I feel your cake pain ;)

All of you swapping kids have me :lmao::lmao:

I am ironing today, I have so much stacked up and have found my old Black and Decker. It is a good iron, just not my Rowenta :upsidedow

Dinner to be determined whenever I can figure out what I want to cook

Yummy spots! I was not impressed with Big River at all when we went.

I thought maybe Sci Fi or 50s PT?

While the food was good at BG it wasn't spectacular. We went there mainly because it was pouring rain and we did not want to have to leave the resort to go anywhere.

And for a place named Big River Grille and Brewery Works I really expected it to look more like it's name, not so modern.

For fun I would say 50's. :thumbsup2 Hopefully Uncle Tommy will be there. If so ask him to show you the hidden Mickey from the lobby. :rotfl:

If you make it to March though, you probably won't need to many newborn size diapers- we only used one pack, then onto a size 1.

This is good advice, Lauren! We didn't use many newborn diapers either. Sorry, Lauren, for making you anxious thinking about an early arrival for Bean.

She is young and has so much faith and innocence, That is a good thing.

That is a good thing. I am glad she is handling things well.

Stephanie -- I saw that Kris made it. :yay: Your news channel is right...I don't remember seeing too much of him up to this point.

I volunteered to make the cookies for Caili's Valentine's party tomorrow, so I have to get that done today. We'll see how much time I have left after that to determine dinner. If the cookies go quickly, I am planning fish tacos. If not...:confused3

WFD dinner tonight is up to my mom again. It's nice having her take care of dinner two nights a week. Emma starts soccer again tonight, already! So, whatever she fixes will be quick, I'm sure. I'm leaving in a bit for the kids' valentines party at school. Nothing like hyping them up on sugar and then handing them off to grandma!

glynis--get that computer back ASAP! We'll miss you!

Hello everyone! It's so nice here today, I took the dog for a walk without boots or gloves!!!

Laura- I just finished making the cookies for kiddo's valentine's day party. Now I have 47 heart shaped cookies dripping in royal icing all over my kitchen. I wonder what I should do with all the leftovers, hmm. I should and probably will just send them to work with my husband, the guys will like them.

Aimee- I think both are fun, but I would personally choose 50's because I hate eating in the dark.

Nancy- I'm glad Kady is doing so well. When my dog died over the summer I have to admit I was a little angry at my daughter (I never let her know) for not being more upset, the kid only cried when we said goodbye. But then she would say the sweetest coments, my favorite was "I wish I could see him one more time, then everyday I would make that wish again." Sorry to go on, just anytime an animal dies I think of him. I got him in highschool and he lived with my parents, but I still thought of him as mine.

Lauren- Sorry, not trying to scare you- but I'm sure your ready to see him.

We have a busy night tonight so it's find your owns for dinner.

I'm like Glynis - I won't be on much over the next week beginning Saturday. I'll check in through my phone, but this thread is really hard to keep up with on that little screen!

I wish the Dis would have a mobile setting - it is a huge page to download onto a phone. Not that I won't sit and wait to get my fix on occasion :rolleyes1

I just thought the smell was too much to take in Big River, made me sick to my stomach, plus the whole place was 'eh.' We, too, tried it out of default.

I wonder if we can request Uncle Tommy? I had a dud of a waitress last time.

Aimee- I think both are fun, but I would personally choose 50's because I hate eating in the dark.

Tonight is a new recipe - spinach and ricotta pizza with bacon. How can it NOT be tasty? :confused3

That is so hard, losing a pet is so difficult, they provide more than pet hair. Kids are so different in how they express themselves, your DD was wishing him back. :sad1: Kady said "You know, he was not just a pet, he was like you know family." She had a nightmare last night and cried several times. This morning she told me she was dreaming about Trouble.
