The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Lauren--I am so sorry. Please let us know if there is anything we can do. Know that we are all thinking of you

Just know we are all here for whatever you need.....

It seems so small but I was back at the ENT today to review my CT scan...bottom line surgery April 21st.

Maria, I'm sorry to hear you will need surgery.
Maria - hoping the surgery gives you much needed and long overdue relief.

Update - Lauren is drained and tired, who wouldn't be. Supposedly he will be taken off the vent this evening. I know from personal experience how difficult and painful that decision is and I am sure Nancy (his wife) is second guessing every thing she is thinking today. My heart truly aches for the entire family. Lauren wanted me to pass on to all of you how much your friendship, prayers and love mean to her. YOU are a very special group of women.:grouphug:

Lauren just called and her brother has passed. She sounded at peace.

That is very sad news. My heart hurts for Lauren & her family. I wish we all could be there for her.

Hi guys.

We are going to Nashville tomorrow to visit my in-laws. She is doing really good. She finished the chemo last week. Her only side effects have been a little nausea and some diarrhea. They are doing another bone marrow biopsy today to see what they are working with now.

I am so tired. It's been nuts around here.

Laurenn, thinking of you and your family.

Lindsay - Glad to hear that Jan is doing well. Continued prayers for her and your family.

WFD - Glynis' creamy tomato chicken, leftover baked pasta and corn.

Merle 2 parties in one night? I don't think I could do 2 in a week.

They were just casual things. The first one was only 2 hours and I was at the 2nd one for less then that. It was basically cake and ice cream.

Aimee, you are so right, it's heartbreaking for me not to be there for her.:sad1:

I think you are.

Kathy- I always consindered friends the family you choose. We have been extremely fortunate and have only needed help a time or two, and it has always been our best friend who drops everything to help us. It breaks my heart to know my inlaws wouldn't do the same for my husband. I think merle said in best, you are there for her.

Laura- It's a beautiful day here, if it's like this during patriots week you should bring the kids up to Provicetown. It's no trip to disney, but if the whales are like they were last year it was pretty amazing. Yes, I'm a big chicken and I've never brought my daughter to Provincetown in the summer, but now it's a great place to walk around. Of course you would have to stop at the Atlantic Spice Company in Truro on the way back. Just a thought.

Thinking of Lauren and Charles' family.

Tonight's our late night so I think we are having hot dogs, Nathan's of course. We haven't had them in months so I think they'll taste good.

/
WFD- Burgers on the grill with mushrooms and swiss. I am in the mood for some KFC cole slaw on the side, so I am going to have to pick it up when I am out later. I have yet to make a cole slaw I love as much as KFC's.

It is going to be almost 60 here today!!!:cool1:

Thank you everyone! I know Charles is not longer in pain but it is still so hard. I am having my moments and have a splitting headache now. Thomas is keeping my mind occupied though...

Kathy, Everyone is right...you are here for me and also for everyone else. You are such and great friend.

Nancy shared a wonderful thought with me that God only takes the really special people during Holy Week and I truly believe that. Charles was a gentle, generous, positive and quick witted person. He will truly be missed by so many people.

I have not talked to his wife yet but hear they are doing as best as can be expected.

Thank you all again. xoxo You truly are an amazing group of friends.

Good Morning All! I hope the sun is out for everyone today, so far it is shining here :thumbsup2

Okay, i don't feel like cleaning today, I don;t feel like cooking and I don't want to shop. I want to veg out in front of the TV and watch mindless reality shows.

Lauren -- I am so sorry for your loss.

That sounds fantastic, Robin. I would love to do that sometime. The kids talked me into signing them up for gymnastics camp for the vacation. I wasn't going to do it thinking that it might be nice enough to just play outside, and do little excursions, but then I thought, what if it rains...

 I thought the beautiful weather would get me motivated to do everything I need to do today but here I sit...:surfweb:

I STILL have leftovers in my refrigerator. It's the leftover fried chicken. Does anyone know if it is still okay to eat? My mom made it on Sunday.

Lauren

Laura, I would still eat it! The chicken was purchased on Saturday afternoon. As long as your refrigerator is working properly, unlike mine. It was at 44 degrees this morning. :headache:

I got home late because of my hair appointment, so I used more...leftovers!! I made John a sandwich from the leftover deli meats and olives, with the addition of tomatoes, spinach, pepperoncini, melted sharp provolone, and olive oil. I would have liked to have added some roasted peppers, but they all ended up in Laura's leftovers.

John has the other half of my sandwich for his lunch today. So, that is the end of the leftovers!

I think tonight I am going to do something with spinach and eggs. Either a spinach omelet, or poached eggs on spinach.

It's going to be 86 today! :scared1: It was about that warm yesterday, too. Where did spring go? We go between winter and summer.

Today is Maundy Thursday, which means a service tonight. I will just work through and grab something with a colleague before worship. DH is going to just grab something, too. I have lots of yummy things to cook at home but really don't want to eat dinner at 10pm :confused3

Aimee- What do you mean where did spring go? It just got here this morning.

Laura- I really hope it doesn't rain. I'm going to my old house in NY one last time before it's sold. It has almost 60 acres so I'm really looking foward to showing the kiddo all the trails in the backyard. I'm sure the chicken if fine, if I ever question something I don't let the other two know and I just heat it up really well.

I can't believe what a nice day we are having. I've gotten the side yard raked and dismantled an old split rail fence. That really wasn't that hard, it was time for it to go. It feels great actually getting something done other than laudry and dishes. Now we just have the backyard and the other side yard to clean up and we are done!

YUM! how do you crisp your bread so nicely!? do you use a panini press? and if so ..what kind..enquiring minds want to know ( and i have to register soon for the wedding :rolleyes1 heehee!)

WFD: i am on my own tonight..i will probably grill some chicken and have it on a salad, like I did last night..it was really good!

For those sandwiches, I just cut the bread in half and stuck it right on an oven rack at 375 until it was nice and crispy.

I don't have a panini press. I used to have one, but it never worked well enough for me, so don't buy that brand! (flama) When I make pressed sandwiches now I just cook them in a ridged grill pan and weight them down with a cast iron skillet.

Lauren I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family.

Last year I stumbled onto this wonderful thread. I read for a bit and then I lost it. When I enquired about it and where you all went to, Lauren was the one who directed me back here. I have been a daily reader since. I know you all don't know me, but believe me when I say I have kept you all in my prayers, laughed with you and cried with you. I even went out and bought a bottle of Rosa Regale just so I would know how good it is. LOL

Anyway . . . Lauren when I read the news about Charles, I cried. I am so very sorry!!

Ellen
