The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

More  Lauren. Are you spending time at the hospital today? How is your SIL holding up?

Tonight I am making shrimp paella - never made it before.

Becky, Thanks for the recipe. Even your "leftovers" look amazing!

Aimee, Good luck with the paella. Let us know how it turns out. I'm not very good with "all in one" rice dishes, not even jambalaya.

just stopping in after another brief hiatus from the WFD thread..
Lauren: many prayers

seemingly unimportant considering the sad news from our friend...WFD: bbq grilled chicken breasts, salad and rice...( getting back on that diet wagon ;)

:grouphug:Lauren, we are all crying right along with you. None of us can ease your pain but we are all here in your time of need. You have been on my mind since receiving Kathy's news. Hugs to you and your family.:grouphug:

Just know we are all here for whatever you need.....

It seems so small but I was back at the ENT today to review my CT scan...bottom line surgery April 21st.

Thinking of Lauren and her family.

Tonight is leftover chicken parm.

Maria- I hope the procedure helps. Somehow I ended up with another internet window open and it had your profile information and friends. I don't know how that happened, no personal information or anything, don't worry, but it was still weird.

Becky- the antipasto looks so good, I'm waiting for a nice warm day and I'm going to make "antipasto pasta." Just a pasta salad with antipasto ingredients, I'm just pleased with myself over the witty name.

Tonight is pork chops with orzo and something else.

I had to throw out the first batch of orzo it some thing doing the back stroke. Good thing everything in my pantry has it's own bag. I learned this from long ago throwing all my pasta, rice and flour away.

Maria I hope this surgery give you some relief.

Merle 2 parties in one night? I don't think I could do 2 in a week.

Maria - hoping the surgery gives you much needed and long overdue relief.

Update - Lauren is drained and tired, who wouldn't be. Supposedly he will be taken off the vent this evening. I know from personal experience how difficult and painful that decision is and I am sure Nancy (his wife) is second guessing every thing she is thinking today. My heart truly aches for the entire family. Lauren wanted me to pass on to all of you how much your friendship, prayers and love mean to her. YOU are a very special group of women.:grouphug:

Kathy, thanks for the update... you have been a truly dear friend to Lauren. I know how much she must appreciate you right now.

WFD- DM had a change of plans so I am home tonight. Dinner is a frozen burrito and a caesar salad.

Kathy thank you for the update I was just going to email you to see if you heard anything. It is a very difficult decision to have to make. Hopefully peace will come for all of them.

Ann - Lauren has been my rock when I needed support and prayers. It's amazing how close Lauren & I became without even meeting in person. We are best friends in every sense of the word, we even call each other "twin". It's scary how alike we are and when we finally met this past November our husbands both said it seemed like we'd known each other all of our lives. Having no family makes my friends my family which includes ALL of you here on this thread. OK, I'm getting sappy here, I'll stop now.

I hope that the surgery helps you to finally feel better. I'll be thinking of you that day

:sad1: What a terrible position she must feel that she is in. I have not had to make this decision and pray that I never do. I am always in awe at the strength that people have when they must make these difficult decisions for those they love the most.

Ann - Lauren has been my rock when I needed support and prayers.

Kat- you have been that rock for us when we needed the support. Please remember how much you mean to all of us, my friend....this family thing works both ways for the WFD 'ers :grouphug:

Dinner is leftovers for Marisa and me. Jeff is picking up Chinese for Buddy and him.

I'm waiting for a nice warm day and I'm going to make "antipasto pasta." Just a pasta salad with antipasto ingredients, I'm just pleased with myself over the witty name.

Last weekend when I told Caili what Becky was making she asked if she could just have the pasta without the anti thing.

Kathy -- Thank you for the update on Lauren. You weren't being sappy. Some of the people on this thread know more about me than my non-online friends do. I think they are usually called real life friends, but that sounds wrong somehow. You are definitely all part of my real life.

ETA: Maria...I'm sorry that you need surgery, but I do hope it helps you feel better. It is almost the kids' bedtime so I am distracted.

I ended up not making it  I forgot that I was going to put asparagus in it, and haven't picked it up from Target yet, so we decided to run to Sonic.

 I'm sorry you aren't any closer together. I know what it's like to be seperated by distance from your very best friend and it's hard. Esp in times like this.

Lauren just called and her brother has passed. She sounded at peace.

I'm sorry, Lauren.

Kat, thank you so much for being our connection to Lauren. I'm sure this has been very difficult on you and I'm sending you prayers & strength.

Please let Lauren know that Charles, his family & of course Lauren remain in my prayers & whatever she needs please don't hesitate, I'm just a car ride away.:sad1:
