I have that book in my classroom. One of my girls loves it. (It's the same author, Maurice Sendak, of Where the Wild Things Are) EVERY DAY she reads me the August poem. (WHY August? :confused3)

It goes:
In August it will be so hot
I will become a cooking pot
Cooking soup of course-why not?
Cooking once, cooking twice
Cooking chicken soup with rice

The first time she read it to me she's like "You're going to be so hot this summer! It's HOT in summer!" No lie...:scared:

Here's a link for all 12 months of Chicken Soup with Rice. I like February and March also. http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Chicken-Soup-With-Rice-lyrics-Carole-King/34EA6D70D9A2E1D9482570D9002A5803

April is poetry month! :lovestruc

Thanks for posting that link! It's been ages since I read through the whole thing! What a fun walk down memory lane!

Becky, Yum, Yum & YUM!! :worship: What a spread Laura had for her birthday! I soo want to be a liam sister! ;)

Me too!!!

I am so excited DH just picked up our mail that was held while we were away. My DM sent me the Food Network Magazine as a surprise!!!I have not read it all yet but so far I think I am going to really like it!!!!

This weather is so miserable to come back to. Rain, rain go away!!!!

I :lovestruc that magazine.

I had no idea they did that! So cool!

I went to the coolest place today - there is a local grocery store that buys nearly expired/expired foods and surplus from various stores and sells them at low prices. I bought goat cheese - a package for 59 cents. It expires this month so I just shoved it into the freezer to be safe.

I brought home 4 bags of stuff for $25. Lots of ethnic foods - like I bought a big bag of rice noodles for 99 cents. They are pricey at my grocery store. Athenos brand hummus was 39 cents. :confused3

Anyways, we went out for BBQ tonight - I had ribs and a baked potato - and then hit the grocery store so we can actually cook for the first time in weeks!

Hey all! Not much going around here. Just obsessed with my phone. Such a cool toy. Dinner was leftovers tonight, very exciting.

Ann--glad you had such a great trip

Becky--you continue to amaze me! Can you cater my birthday?

Sheryl--glad to hear that ANgelina is doing well

Good Morning!

I overslept...Andrew is home sick...and I have the inspectors coming for final inspection downstairs. I am a bit out of sorts...

Kathy, What nice pics! Kyle is such a handsome guy! They both look absolutely gorgeous!!!

Dinner will be pasta with meatballs and sausage and a salad.

Have a great day!

I am going to try to catch up today.

It seems like the rain has stopped here. There was a scary moment at the school this afternoon. I was waiting in the drop-off/pick-up loop, and all the kids had come out of the school and were waiting. It was pouring rain, so they were all drenched. Suddenly, there was a bright flash of light followed by a huge boom of thunder. The kids all screamed and ran back into the school. No one was hurt, thankfully, but everyone was a bit shaken. Maybe the school will come up with a better plan for what to do when there is bad weather.

 Yikes! I know some of the schools here hold the kids in the cafeteria then call them to go out when the parent pull up.

Didn't grill my salmon last night, it was a bit too windy. I am going to make a turkey burger, roasted potatoes and salad for tonight.

I have a class tonight. :headache: I wish I had been able to take the stupid thing back in August when my boss did it for all of the staff. Now I'm going to have to participate. :rotfl: It's much easier to keep your head down in a group of 80 people. ;)

Morning everyone, still raining here. Not as much as yesterday though.

Merle- We have training at the beginning of every summer for work, last year was really awful. I'd much rather listen to a lecture than have to participate, some people really get into it. CPR training I don't mind, but once the word "skit" is mentioned, grrr.

Kathy- I don't know if I am more jealous of her tan, I've never had one, or the greenery in the yard- we definatly don't have that know.

Aimee- I wish we had one of the stores nearby. I always check the old bread and produce rack and my husband teases me- the poor guy doesn't know I also get the meat that's marked down. I have never had a problem and they mark it down a couple of days before the sell by date. I just don't buy steak because I eat it pretty rare.

Laura- That was some thunder we had, I can't believe they had the kids outside in it. I drove down to the bus stop, I didn't want her walking in that. One thunder crash was so loud the house shook and a stainless steel bowl in the drying rack fell. That sent the cat and dog right under my feet.

I solved my freezing chicken parm dilema, it came out so good I want to have it again, so it's tomorrow night's dinner.

Don't know what's for dinner tonight, I used to be so organized.

Good morning!
Laura- That had to be scarey!

Kat- what a lovely couple they make! Thanks for sharing the pictures

Lauren- I hope that Andrew feels better soon! Don;t try to catch up, just jump in.

Kady looked so cute this morning. She almost never buys lunch in school because there are a lot of things that have some dairy in them but today is foot long hot dogs to celebrate Red Sox opening day. She is in her Red Sox pajama bottom type pants her Baseball shirt. Under it is her Boston Tee shirt and of course no outfit is complete without a matching cap :thumbsup2 Marisa checked with her teacher about the pants, I have never seen any children in this school wearing them but the teacher thought it would be okay today. The hat comes off when she enters the building though. She is tickled, Jeff is meeting her for lunch in his matching shirt :goodvibes

Dinner will probably be something with ground turkey. I want the bulgar casserole but am out of several things. I may take Nola and run to the store, if not I have to regroup

Have a good day!

I know you all are praying and keeping my brother in your thoughts but can you say an extra prayer today. He was admitted to the hospital last night. He was coughing up blood and a tumor or more than one are bleeding. He is being taken off the blood thinners so hopefully that will help. He was also supposed to go for chemo today so not sure if that will happen. :sad1:

Skits and roll playing :headache:! I have decided they are against my religion! :rotfl:

Hopefully tonight will not be too bad, I was told there was still plenty of space available so hopefully that means there are only a few people and we can be done quickly.

Thank you for wanting me to stay around! I definitely will. I lurk on this page everyday, lol, and have been since the beginning of it. I have benefited so much from the recipes and tips, and I ALWAYS enjoy the pictures of the food.

I am not the greatest of cooks, though I do try. So if there is any way I can contribute, I will. :)

Morning Y'all,

First thing, Lauren extra prayers for Charles today! :flower3: Prayers for you too.

Again I have to thank of you for the prayers & well wishes for Angelina! :grouphug: I really believe all my friends are the reason she is doing so well! She didn't take any percocet during the day yesterday!!! I don't know if she took one before bed last night I haven't spoken to her yet this morning. Either way she is doing very well.

I am so excited DH just picked up our mail that was held while we were away. My DM sent me the Food Network Magazine as a surprise!!!I have not read it all yet but so far I think I am going to really like it!!!!

This weather is so miserable to come back to. Rain, rain go away!!!!

That was very nice of her!:goodvibes I'm trying to save up my coke points to get it. (per Stephanie's suggestion :goodvibes) I'm going to have to buy more Coca Cola products because I'm jealous everytime one of you mentions that magazine!

Wow, that is great! I hope her recovery continues to go well.

 Six adults...five if my brother is working. She does always make too much! It drives my mom crazy.

It seems like the rain has stopped here. There was a scary moment at the school this afternoon. Maybe the school will come up with a better plan for what to do when there is bad weather.

I had the leftover meatballs, Liam had leftover sausage, and Caili had leftover fried chicken. You're going to hear a lot about leftovers here this week.

Well I know some people not complaining about how much Becky cooks! :goodvibes

Laura, I'm surprised they send all the kids out in the rain! Even Alexis' school doesn't do that. (and we all know they do some very goofy things.) They have a small shelter & hold the kids in the library until the parent's car is in the line. A teacher with an umbrella walks them to the car. (although I am on the kind-4th grade dismissal side of the bldg.) But the cafeteria is on the other side so I'm sure they hold the kids there. Sorry for the scare everyone suffered!

That is neat, I didn't know they did that either!

I have a few prom pics to post:

Kyle is so handsome, love that gold tie! His girl is such a beauty too. She must have done a wonderful job on her redo of her hair, because it looks gorgeous!

Glad your chicken was good!

Did y'all take a pic of Kady? Let me know if it's on FB, I can't keep up on there & here! It sounds like a fun day for Kady!

More prayers!:flower3: Lauren, I know this is a hard time for you. Please try to remember to take care of yourself!

No more lurking!;)

I think I might try Glynis' curried honey chicken. Glynis what do you serve with that?

Becky Just how many people do you cook for? That food looks like it could feed a small army. How do you make the Kalhua colada?

Erm for this meal it was....six? :rotfl: Everyone jokes that in another life I had 12 children. Seriously, though, I like leftovers! Mondays are really busy for Laura so I like to have food she can take home and reheat at dinner. John and I had leftovers last night too, and even he commented on how easy it was. I usually portion out our leftovers for lunches.

The kaluha colada was really easy, but I need to double check the recipe before posting. It is just kaluha, cream of coconut, rum (I used vodka, because John is allergic to rum), and ice, but I forget the exact portions of each. I'll reread it tonight, and put the recipe up tomorrow.

Sheryl, the coconut sauce was really good! Again, though, I need to re-read the recipe before posting it. I'll put it up tomorrow, with the colada recipe.

Yay! I'm glad you are staying. :)

Lauren, I am sorry about your brother. Hopefully taking him off the thinners will help.

Kathy, awesome pictures! They are such a cute couple.

Dinner tonight will be something incorporating the leftover fried chicken. Probably some kind of salad.

Maria -- I had no idea Remy was around. Cute!

Kathy -- What beautiful pictures! High school students today are way more together than my class was. Maybe that was due to the bad 80s hair and fashion though. :scared1:

Lauren -- I hope Andrew feels better quickly. I'm sorry to hear about your brother.

Nancy -- Kady would fit right in at the school here. I think half the girls wear pajama pants to school. I'm glad she has her Red Sox Pride on today!

Robin -- Good to hear you figured out the chicken parm problem. We didn't have too much thunder here yesterday. We just happened to get that flash and thunder at dismissal.

Dinner tonight is...you guessed it...more leftovers!

Let me know how many points you need! I have tons!
