The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Good Morning All! I am trying to catch up but am hopelessly behind.
I will check FB to see if I got a friend request Hope so!
I see that we still have some folks who are under the weather, feel better all of you! Gretchen- don't mess around with that sore throat, the stress you have been under will zapp your resistance so give in to it before it blossoms to something that may get in the way of that wonderful getaway you all have planned!

My little Princess went home after her afternoon nap yesterday. Her little nose was running like a faucet and while she was mostly in good spirits she looked like a tiny trainwreck . Her Mommy called several times and just after I heard her call me Mom showed up at the door. Her Daddy had time coming so he took the night off and they were all going to curl up together.

I am way behind this morning. I don't sleep well lately so Buddy did notwake me when he got up. Being 52 can be just plain awful!

I doubt that I am cooking. Marisa and I are planning on going shopping tonight so Buddy willl be on his own.

My poor peanut, I hope the kids flu shot is not as painful as the adult one.

Caili handled it fine last year, but that is one of those shots that seems to vary from year to year. I'm not looking forward to mine now that you mentioned how sore your arm was from yours.

Just got home from my godsons football game, they won and even better he got to play!!!

Congratulations to him! I hope he made a good impression and gets more playing time.

I feel so out of the loop here...I can't keep up anymore.

With all you have going on right now, don't worry about keeping up. I just enjoy hearing from you. When is Tom moving?

I forgot it got cheaper when you start getting mail from AARP:rotfl2:.

That was what made my dad so mad when he turned 50. He got the AARP materials a couple weeks before his birthday. He was not happy.

Amanda and Hailey both have strep throat.

Oh no! I hope they feel better quickly and the rest of you don't get it. It didn't take long for stuff to start going around the schools, did it? Caili has had a couple kids out from her class, including a close friend. I'm crossing my fingers Caili doesn't get it.

You can't be old, Gretchen, because that means I am too. I will celebrate that birthday in April.

It does mean that the girls and I will have to come up with something spectacular to do tomorrow without them.

I'm sure you will think of something. Have fun!

I have a lot of leftover chicken from the other night, so I might do something with that for dinner. Caili has skating, so it can't be anything too complicated.

Good morning! I ended up changing what I made for dinner again last night! I don't know why I bother saying what I am going to make because it always ends up being something different. Anyway, I made breakfast for dinner. We had mushroom omelets, bacon, potato cake, and sliced tomatoes. I forgot to take a picture.

Speaking of forgetting, I forgot that tomorrow is my mother in law's birthday, and she and my father in law are coming for dinner!! Oops!! Now I have to figure out what to make for them.

Hope all the sickies are feeling better today!

Gretchen, hope everyone feels better. Stress makes your immunity disappear. Please rest:hug:

Ellen, let me know what you think of the cake.
Lily goes back to the vet tomorrow & hopefully we will be done for a bit. She finally has some pep back & I couldn't be happier. Just wish I know how she injured herself in the first place.

Nan, so your still not sleeping well. It's just terrible.

Lauren, miss you here...that Farmville is a cult & I am so far sucked into it!

Aimee, how was your birthday last night? Hope your feeling better.

Hope we here from Vickie~
BBL

I think my godson made a good impression, he was right on the person he was supposed to and did have a couple of good plays. This is unlike when he started playing for the county middle school team and most times would run up and pretend he was a part of the action! :rotfl:

Not sure what is for dinner tonight, last night I ended up eating leftover meatballs, bread and butter and a baked potato. :sad2:

Hey y'all,

There is just too much chatting!:upsidedow I can't keep up! I got DH off & went back to bed again. I wish I could shake these sinus troubles, I need to go get a flu shot.

Gretchen, Sorry that strep is spreading around your family. Call your dr if you think you have it, before it as time to take you down!

Nancy, I'm sorry your littlest one is sick!

Lauren, This move sounds like it's happening fast! Tom is moving before you & the boys? When is all this going to happen? Prayers & hugs!

I'm getting excited about meeting some of my good friends next month!!

I have no ideas for a gift for Brenda from us as a group. My idea was Nola stuff. :confused3

I'm not cooking tonight, my SisIL sent over some chicken & sausage gumbo. We're going to a musical tonight that my niece (Kaitlyn 16) is in. I should be excited but it's at least an hours drive for a show that starts at 8. I must be getting really old!

Nan, pushing 51 is not feeling so good either! :sad1:

Oh I do have an Alexis funny for y'all.

Yesterday she was very excited over her tests papers, except when she came across a B, she started to cry over a 91! After much explaining that a B was a very good grade, she calmed and went on with her showing of the day's papers.

So then she pulled her big surprise a paper stating she was the " The Church Angel" for the week, which stated she had the best behaviour & participation in Church in her Class. She pulled it out with much pomp & circumstance as she could muster (Standing on the coffee table, with a clearing of her throat & her tooting of her own horn!)

She shouted proudly " My teacher gave me this it's for ME being GOODEST KID IN THE WHOLE SCHOOL!" princess::rotfl2::lovestruc

Have to laugh at the age comments! I so enjoy giving my DH "grief" for all the AARP stuff he gets in the mail:lmao:

And I refuse to be sucked into farmville:rotfl:. Bad enough my son got me into Mafia Wars :confused3 I just don't get all that stuff.

And please - you all need to stop saying how much that flu shot hurts or I'm a gonna chicken out of it:scared1:

Nancy - I hope Nola gets better soon! Sorry you aren't sleeping well. Maybe you need to help yourself to more of that wine you're creating;)

Morning, all! It's Friday, which means I get to go bowling this morning!!! Hooray for Me time!!!

Alan is leaving for a freelance job at noon today, and is taking Jacob with him for some quality father/son time! I love that he's willing to do that with the kids. They love it, too! It does mean that the girls and I will have to come up with something spectacular to do tomorrow without them. I do have some ideas. Up is at the dollar theater, so maybe we'll go see that! There's also a Witch Festival at a local farm/shopping area that is always fun to see. So, we've got some deciding to do.

Dinner is up in the air but will most likely be tomato soup and grilled cheese sammies.

Have a great day, everyone!!!

Sounds like a fun weekend all around!

Well, we are falling fast at my house. Amanda and Hailey both have strep throat. Patrick is hoping to get it if it means a few days off from school. :rolleyes1 And I am busy telling myself that my sore throat is due to my sinus issues.

Tonight's dinner is going to be the baked chicken I didn't fix last night.

Oh no! I hope everyone gets better soon. Nothing worse that a whole house of sick kids:sick:

Just got home from my godsons football game, they won and even better he got to play!!! And even tackled someone! :woohoo: This is the middle one, he is a Freshman and unless they are really, really good, they don't get to play much.

:woohoo:That's great!:yay:

Too funny about the grade. I'm glad to see little miss drama queen getting back into the swing of things!!:cutie:

Tonight is our Friday group dinner. What started out as weekly dinner with my DS & DIL has grown to include some of their friends and their kids; we have anywhere from 8-12 people each week. We rotate houses and this week it's at our house. Dinner will be burgers and sausage on the grill with oven roasted seasoned potatoes and roasted broccoli. I have a chocolate pudding cake for dessert. It's always a fun time.

Hey guys! Just wanted to check in again...trying to get done but not getting that far.

Thank you for your good wishes. Tom is actually leaving next weekend for a 9/30 start. We are staying probably until Xmas. Gotta sell this and buy something. It looks like A's dad may be moving there too...problem solved!

BBL...definitely...I miss my friends. Have to share a story later too! Remind me if i dont...just something touching for all of you! xo

Lauren- you have too much going on to worry about keeping up! I am so glad that there is no visiting problem anymore. I hope that the house sells quickly so that you can join Tom

I can finally relax. Yesterday we had a escaped bank robber roaming our area yesterday and today. They had the schools on lock down this morning. I have been on pins and needles all night and this morning. I am sooo glad this is over. He was caught just about a mile from my home too close for comfort.

I'll be back later to chat.

Stop teasing your DH now! I did the same to Bob & THEN the darned AARP invitation came in the mail ADDRESSED TO ME!!:scared1::eek: Payback's a bwitch!

Your Friday dinners sound fun!

Lauren, That is happening fast!

Marilyn, That's great that your godchild got into the game!

Janice, I'm glad that's over, it must have been frightening!

I am so sad, I had to miss the oldest GS's football game today and he's played the entire game so far! I just talked to his mother and they are winning 33 to 3! :cheer2:

I wish they would have played yesterday at 7 instead!

Hey all! Not sure wfd tonight. Scott called and he's on his way home from the airport :cool1: so we might go out. Katelyn invited me out with her and her classmates to Olive Garden and a movie--but somehow I don't think Scott would appreciate that much! ;)

Can't believe that F&W is under a month away!!! I got my park ticket in the mail last night. I am so :banana::banana: about this trip.

Okay, should get off of here! Have a great rest of your Friday all!

Speaking of forgetting, I forgot that tomorrow is my mother in law's birthday, and she and my father in law are coming for dinner!! Oops!! Now I have to figure out what to make for them.

If your everyday meal is anything like a special occasion meal, you'll blow them away!

Aimee, how was your birthday last night? Hope your feeling better.

Thanks for asking :goodvibes It was sooooooo good. Tasty sushi and tempura cheesecake for dessert.

Yikes! Glad they caught him!

We are just going to grill hot dogs for dinner. We had an invite to a bday party but I'm tired and don't want to reshower, do my hair, put on makeup, blah blah at this point.

That is so funny and cute! Since when is a 91 a B? :confused3

Sounds fun! I hope you had a good time.

Tom is actually leaving next weekend for a 9/30 start.

Oh, wow, that happened fast! I hope you can get everything done quickly, so you can all be together again soon. That is good news about Andrew's dad. That will make things easier.

Yesterday we had a escaped bank robber roaming our area yesterday and today.

That is scary! I'm glad everything is back to normal.

I am so sad, I had to miss the oldest GS's football game today and he's played the entire game so far!

That's great that he is playing though. I'm sure you'll catch another game.

Stephanie -- I hope you had a good dinner out with Scott.

Aimee -- I'm glad you were feeling up to your birthday dinner last night.

The kids and I were invited up to my neighbor's house at the last minute tonight, so dinner was chicken nuggets for them and buffalo chicken dip (I had said I was going to bring this to Beck's on Sunday, but it is gone now...:rolleyes1) and some veggies and hummus for me.

I am going to be off the computer this weekend, so I hope everyone has a good couple of days!

Good morning everybody...

I have not been posting much of anything this week! I've been reading along with this thread yet I remember nothing. :headache:

Work is still going well. I am so glad I moved. I hear the things coming out of my old school and it sounds even worse than before. :scared1:

I have to take Anabelle to the vet this morning. I have to leave her there since she had the reaction to the shots last time. :sad1: We are still not sure what she is. We were thinking part beagle but now I'm not sure. Maybe part dachshund. She has a long, skinny body but also long legs.

That is so funny and cute! Since when is a 91 a B? :confused3

I suspect her school has the same grading scale as mine, or close to it:
93-100 A
85-92 B
77-84 C
70-76 D
Below 69 F

And I know they use it in grade 1; possibly even K. They even use it in Conduct! Every day you end on "yellow", it's -1 point, "blue" is -3 points, and "red" is -4 points. You start each term with 100 points.

Bethany Glad to hear you are settling in and liking it. I hope Annabelle has a better visit with the vet.

I slept so good last night. That guy carjacked at least 3 cars during his day and half spree and robbed the same bank he was supposed to be sentenced for. It was pretty unsettling especially since that bank is across the street from mine:scared1:. Here is a link if your interested http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chi-escaped-prisoner-19-sep19,0,4007009.story

Today is going to be quiet.:yay: I am going to the farmers market this morning. I have to get my tank refilled since I used it up last night with the pork chops thank goodness they were done.:rolleyes1

Quicky check in this morning. I have strep and am on Augmentin. However, I'm not too sick for the retail therapy day I promised my Mom we would have today. Kenny is still well even though all three kids now have strep so he is babysitting today.

Janice - Very scary, I'm glad they caught that guy!

Maria – I’m hoping all goes well for Lily at the vet today, hug her for me. I miss Vicki here too!:confused3

Sheryl – I’m sorry I didn’t get to call you yesterday, I’d love to hear your idea for a gift for Brenda!! That Alexis says the cutest stuff.:goodvibes

Lauri – Your Friday night group dinner sounds like fun!

Lauren – How cool that A’s dad will be moving there too! Have y’all found any prospective neighborhoods yet?

Janice – I’d have been freaking out!

Steph – I’m getting really excited about our trip too!:cool1:

Bethany – I’m so happy you’re glad you moved here, we sure are! Hoping Anabelle is OK today.

Gretchen – Glad to hear you’re feeling up to shopping with Mom, have fun!

Johnny & I went out to dinner last night. We had a wonderful meal and talked about Sammie all evening, remembering all the laughter she brought to our lives. When we got home we both broke down in tears, we're so used to her going crazy when we walked in after a night out.:sad1:

WFD - Bacon wrapped chipotle shrimp, rice pilaf and charred corn relish.
