The Westboro Baptist Church (Google them) is coming to Orlando

I cringed when I saw this post! My daughter was a student at the University of Alabama in April 2011 when the deadly tornadoes came through and took the lives of 64 people, injured 1500, and changed the look of the city. Two years later this group, I refuse to call it a church, came down to "remind them of the wrath of God that visited them two years ago," referring to the EF4 tornado and the picketers said the storms were the result of growing acceptance of homosexuality and support of gay marriage in the nation". They were meet with two groups, one was the students protesting their hatefulness and praising love and acceptance. The other was a group of bikers who continued to circle them, disrupt them, and kept them away from the student anti-protesters. It sickens me when I hear them showing up at military funerals and it sickens me to know they will try and show up saturday. I pray that the community and the very special bikers will show up and shut them down. I agree with a previous poster who said there is a special place in hell for them.

So so sad that they still exist. If you are in the area and available please go and peaceful counter protest. There are many organization who will work to quickly get a permit so make sure you find the counter protests on Facebook.

OMG I have never heard of these "people". When I googled and saw the name of their website, I feel like purchasing a plane ticket just to be there to show them how horrible they are. I know that they don't have the approval of the Almighty like they think they do.

Yea this so called church shows up at U.S. Service members funerals who have died in combat defending the United States. They are real bunch of well you know what.

The best thing that could happen is if no one...yep, no one showed up to see their protest. Picture it...they would have no one to protest to, just themselves. Where's the "fun" in that for them? Yes, this is probably the grossest thing they do.
They will picket funerals of military personel and weather tragedies that have nothing to do with gays or race, but feel these things happened BECAUSE humans are going against what they believe is the will of their god.
It makes NO sense whatsoever.

But I differ in the thought that they shouldn't be allowed to protest. Unless they are physically violent or encourage others to be violent, they, like everyone else, has the right to protest or preach whatever they believe. Their rights are the same as ours, regardless of the sewage they are preaching.

I get what you are saying, but they are promoting hate and violence. So many "rights" that were given to us in the formation of this country have had unintended consequences. Like the right to bear arms.

If they were just protesting fine but how would you feel if you were trying to bury your son, brother, husband, etc and these monsters shouted the entire time about how your love one was a fxxxt and deserved to die by G-d's wrath? Would you be able to properly grieve having that shouted at you?

I have the (dis)pleasure of being from the same town as the WBC. Sad to say maybe, that no one around here takes them seriously anymore. Their patriarch Fred Phelps passed away a few years ago and the "church" has lost a lot of its steam.

They turn up at high profile events just to be seen (although I do believe they have a hateful agenda) and they have significantly shrunk in numbers over the years.

Years ago, one of the daughters was offered a music scholarship to the local university on the contingency she sing in choir. Which means she'd have to sing music their church found "unacceptable". Whenthe university stood firm on the requirement based on the argument that the performances are not "worship based" she relented and accepted her scholarship. So they would picket her concerts, the put their signs away and come in and watch.

Don't really take them seriously after that, I guess.

Totally agree with you - these families have been through enough trauma and need love and support not hatred and further trauma.

It would bother me. But that doesn't make it against the law.
