We ate at The Wave a week ago Monday. It was my birthday, and while I was a little apprehensive about trying somewhere new for an "event," we have absolutely no regrets.
We were on the
DDP, but had a couple of apps.
First, the space itself. DD, 22, said it was "chic." That seems apt enough. The waiting area was awash in a cool blue light. We got there about 15 minutes prior to our ADR, but basically had no wait.
The dining room itself is in warm earth tones, not aquatic at all

. The wave motif is seen in some abstract ceiling decorations and in the chair backs. Each table had a little electric votive candle. DD, ever the fashion critic, said the lighting make everyone's complexion look so nice. Lord, what have we raised with that one?
They start out with bread service, a thinly sliced whole grain something, nice and nutty, with butter and sea salt.
DD and her boyfriend split the lettuce wraps with lamb and scallops. P.F. Chang's has a similar dish. These were spicy, not gamy at all. DW had navy bean soup, and that stuff was so thick and rich it was a meal in itself. It was full of bacon. I had the chef's soup, which was sort of a creamy artichoke. Again, it was VERY rich, and came with two tiny grilled cheese sandwiches.
Entrees? DD had linguni with clams, rock shrimp in a chunky tomato broth. That's very descriptive. It was full of seafood, and had just enough kick to make it exciting. The broth tasted a bit like a marinara sauce, but was much chunkier.
DDBF had beef tenderloin. It was a generous piece, with oven- dried tomatoes, roasted fingerling potatoes, cabernet sauce and local greens. The greens were basically a side salad. He demolished his steak, and proclaimed it "as good as I've ever had." Perfect temperature, too.
I had the lamb shank, which was HUGE, and just saturated in a red wine sauce. I wasn't too sure about the side -bulgur wheat- lentil stew - but one bite and I was hooked. It took up a whole big dinner plate. The meat just fell off the bone, and you sort of mixed the lamb with the stew and shoveled it in. Dadgum, it was FINE. It was belt-loosening time.
DW had the cinnamon rubbed pork loin. Honestly, she just didn't care for it too much. I tasted it, and it was vaguely middle eastern, sort of sweet, and I could see where that would be a turn-off. I liked it, but it wouldn't be my first choice. It came with Honey-roasted Root Vegetables and Apple Cider Sauce, and she did enjoy the vegetables, which were parsnips ("a white carrot" DD said) and maybe celery root. Not too sure on that one.
The desserts, of course, were fine. You saw above what is offered. That was fun, mixing and matching and sampling each others. The only thing that was sort of off-putting to me was the lemon corn bread. Maybe it was a texture thing.
Service was attentive, not intrusive, and just spot on.
