I stand corrected on the rumor mill. I posted in another thread that Nikon might not go the full frame dSLR route. They actually could.

According to a few places, Nikon has a press conference set for 1PM Japan time (12 midnight eastern time tonight) tomorrow to reportedly announce TWO (2) new dSLR's along with FIVE (5) new lenses.

First the D3, replacement for the D2Xs, Full frame 12MP, Live view LCD, 9fps in FF mode, 11fps in HSC mode (at 1.5 crop factor / DX size), ISO 200 - 6400 with LO (ISO 100 equivalent), H1 and H2 (ISO 12800 / 25600, respectively) , 51 point autofocus system (15 cross sensor). Probably priced... well if you have to ask.

Next the D300, replacement for the D200, DX size 12MP (supposedly the same as the D2X), Live view LCS, 6fps (up to 8fps with power grip), ISO 200 - 3200 with LO (ISO 100 equivalent), H1 (ISO 6400) and 51 point autofocus system (15 cross sensor).

Lenses:
14-24mm f/2.8G AF-S
24-70mm f/2.8G AF-S
400mm f/2.8G AF-S VR
500mm f/4G AF-S VR
600mm f/4G AF-S VR

Looks like some expensive stuff. If I'm reading the D3 stuff correctly it can handle both full frame and DX stuff all in one. This way utilizing all Nikkor lenses, DX and non-DX. WOW!

All this along with a bunch of new Coolpix PnS camera's.

Wow, Canon and Nikon sure know how to make the month of August even hotter!

We'll know for sure by tomorrow.

The ability to work in both full-frame and 1.5 crop is probably a must with the way that many of the manufacturers have been churning out digital-only (ie, crop) lenses and discontinuing full-frame lenses.

That does mean that perhaps some roadmaps will be adjusted if they didn't list full-frame lenses on them....

Has anyone seen if Nikon has posted any test shots with the new camera bodies yet? I am particularly interested in the high-iso performance.

2 of my colleagues in the states just pulled the trigger and placed orders today - one for the D3 & 24-70 and the other a D300 and one of the long VR lenses.

i was really hoping Canon had announced a few more lenses but overall it's been a good month for consumers
