The Walking Thread

Happy Monday!!!

Today's walk started out great! I was energetic, I had on show tunes, I was having a full on production out there including some dancy moves with a lot of lip synching (because I don't want to wake the neighborhood)...and then I felt the early signs of some discomfort issues. I got myself home just before mile 3...took some meds...had a quick drink and got back out there. I didn't feel bad but I knew I wouldn't make it if I didn't take some added precautions. I also didn't want to stray as far from home. In any event, got in 6.03 miles. It was not my normal route. In fact, I was just walking anywhere close enough to home to get it done while also being close enough in case I needed to dash back. On the plus side, I got our school's cross country team on my route vs. the other high school in town AND I saw DD17 on her drive to school. She was up late working on her physics project with her team (annual cardboard boat contest that's held in the school's pool), so I know she was probably tired.

This was the first pic I took. Super blurry. Had planned to delete it if I got some good pics down at the lake. It was looking like a great sunrise today, but I didn't want to slow my pace or stop that early in. Sadly...this is the only thing I captured of sunrise today. So, I kept it...blurriness and all.

Happy Monday! We lucked out with a beautiful day! Highs in the mid 70s but pretty breezy. I got my 3 miles in. I wish I had time to walk more some evenings, but time is limited and there are things that must be done. I am NOT a morning person so it is very unlikely that you will get a sunrise picture from me! LOL It's all pasture and fields out here. I'm trying to get some different views. It will be prettier once the crops are in and growing. The baby calf will probably be half grown before it's close enough for me to get a good photo. Baby animals are just so cute!

I don't know if I'm truly a morning person but I know I'm less likely to get it done if I push things to later in the day. I used to be more of a night owl, but now I'm more burning the candle at both ends. Today was a super early totally in the dark day. I was walking out of the driveway at 4:59 am. I got in 6.04 miles. I wanted to go a little farther and get in one of my hill segments, but a crew was out there getting ready to work and I am technically not supposed to be on the trails in the dark. Everyone does it, but you don't want to get called out. Oh, I also scared something big this morning. I've been wearing my Shokz of late (vs. the AirPods), so I can hear a lot more. Whatever this was happened to be right off the trail and made a significant amount of noise. More than a squirrel, rabbit, large bird, possum, etc. I immediately engaged my pepper spray but thankfully never had to use it...and never saw what it was.

Tomorrow will be another ultra early day. I've debated up and down about Friday as well. I have jury duty at 10:30 am but the juror garage is known to fill up. Usually, when I've been called, it's a Monday and it's an 8:00am session. I was stuck in traffic this morning with a view of the main courthouse, when I got the idea to just arrive a bit early and walk downtown. We'll see.

TiggerTigger, I am definitely burning the candle at both ends too! I am a night owl, but have to get up at 530 🙄 to be at work by 7. 😖😩 It's not a good combo!
I don't know how you drive in that traffic! That looks terrifying to me! I would hate that. And I hate jury duty too. Beautiful pics of the sunrise!

Citruscurtis, I'm glad you stretched your legs and shared that gorgeous blue sky above the mts!

It's back to rain again. Torrential down pour is more accurate at the moment. Had to do laps in the raindrops when the rain eased up. I covered 2.5 miles. The dandelions are spreading their seeds for the next generation to sprout.

5:30am is my normal rise and shine time on days when I'm working from home. That's about when I need to get up to get in my walks. These in office days bump that up by an hour. So, my alarm has been going off bright and early at 4:30am. It also means missing my midday nap (instead of lunch break). I got home yesterday and fell asleep on the couch before dinner and gym time. I have a love/hate relationship with jury duty. I really don't mind it when I've got nothing major going on but getting downtown and dealing with parking isn't enjoyable. This time is weird. 10:30am on a Friday is not normal...not unheard of...but not the standard. I'm really hoping I get released early because I need to make it to College Station, which is about a 2 hour drive (or more, if traffic). I don't love that traffic going in and out of the city but I'm also pretty used to it. It's just a soul draining experience when you've been on the road for an hour and you know the traffic volumes well enough to realize that you're going to be sitting in the car for at least another 30 minutes.

Happy Wednesday!

It was another dark and early morning. Whatever crud I've been fighting involves some congestion. I haven't even bothered trying to run because even pushing my walks feels like it could trigger an attack. So, I've been cautious all around. I went 6.23 miles this morning, so I at least got in my preferred distance. I also don't go as fast in the dark because it's harder to be as certain of your surroundings.

Pics are always more difficult in the dark. This morning, I spotted a number of decent sized fish swimming around the first of the bridges. Blurry...but those are fish. A bit too much for the heron, but there's smaller goodies in there for him too. The sky was clearer today than yesterday, which makes for better sky and moon shots.

I also had a bit of a treat on my return trip along the lake. I've been wearing my old Shokz headphones of late instead of my AirPods, which means I can hear more of my surroundings (even if the sound is kind of meh). I think I've mentioned seeing an owl by the lake of late, but it's always flying...meaning, I can never tell the type. I didn't see it this morning, but I heard it and it was very vocal. I couldn't stick around too long, but you can hear it hooting in this short.

Also, took a pic of the mimosa before heading out this morning. The flowers are really starting to fill in. There's a whole lot more pink on there.

TiggerTigger, that was a cool little video! So pretty to hear and see!
The only thing that gets me out of bed at 4:30 in the morning is a flight to Disney!
Kiddos to you for getting up to walk before that dreadful drive into the city!

No walking in the cards for me today, but tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, dry, and cool.

Happy Thursday!

Another 6.23 miles this morning. Part of me wanted to run but I knew I needed to take it easy today. At least I got a little more sleep and a lot of daylight. Oh… and far away but..ducklings! Cute little duckies!

Also wanted to share some leaf pics from my growing plants…

I also had my biopsy today. Hence why I had to take it easy. Obviously, I’m nervous and will be hoping for the best but readying for the worst, especially since I’m high risk. The procedure was also less than fun. In usual fashion, I needed more lidocaine than the norm. The pain must have triggered a vasovagal response. At first it felt like an intense hot flash. I started sweating profusely and then I became lightheaded. I at least had the ability to tell them, but next thing I remember, I was waking from a deep dreamlike state, on my back with my legs elevated. At least DH drove so I didn’t have to worry about getting myself home. Ugh… but already hating the waiting.

Love the ducklings and leaves! You have a good eye!

I was thinking about your biopsy yesterday and wondering if you had it. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I will pray for good news. The waiting and unknown is hard!!!! In the mean time, take care of yourself and keep living life!

Checking in. Sore, but feeling better today. I decided it was best to take it easy and not putting myself outside walking around just yet. I also don’t trust myself on a treadmill just in case I lose my balance and need upper body strength/control to grip the handrails.

I did do a home workout last night. I put in 30 minutes on my bike (plus 2 minute cool down) and a 30 minute lower body barre routine to work legs, glutes, hips and core. I was surprised with excellent speed on the bike.

IMG_4723.jpeg

I should be good to walk by tomorrow and supposedly my standard compressive undergarments should aid with the soreness. I can’t run, do elliptical or upper body until Monday.

I’m downtown today for jury duty. Between showers in the area and just being cautious, I decided to do nothing. Hopefully I’m out in time to make it to DDs softball game. It’s about 2 hours away in rush hour traffic.
