The default could possible be due To The Void not paying an agreed monthly dollar amount for the rights to use Disney IP. Disney probably had safe guards in the license agreement that if the venture ever failed due to default they could take control over the developed VR experiences that involved their IP.

Interesting. That's not good news for the current owner, but if Disney re-opens them "under new management" (their own), we still get to experience this great attraction!
