The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

Re the ornaments - as of this afternoon, both Golden Vine and Starview Station are out. The office here at GC said they only had a couple left. The DH folks seemed to have a few but I didn’t ask how many.

after the meeting, a few of us owners and CMs were talking about how the Murphy bed wall doesn't have any artwork. Pardon my poor iphone finger highlight in the pic. They were listening.
I’d vote to keep it with no artwork- I think adding art would take away from the Craftsman vibe in the rooms, that “balance” Bill mentioned in the meeting.

If they wouldn’t have gone with Bambi then they could have put a nice picture of the forest with a tasteful Chip and Dale…. You know… the actual mascots of the resort….

I’m very happy that this second referb is happening.

I think what they should do is very simple… go look at the hotel rooms and do that… obviously, ours has the Murphy beds and kitchens to consider… but there’s not anything done wrong with the cabinetry in there they don’t need to change that.

But as far as the bathrooms, lighting, USB and televisions go… just do what they did in the hotel rooms. I wouldn’t even mind the Chip and dale wall art, although it would probably have to be done a little differently.

This was a scheduled Full Refurb and not a Refresh. They treated it more like a Refresh & got caught. (It kind of worked at BWV..so maybe they thought why not sneak another through). In California, with fewer DVC properties..VGC is watched like a Hawk by the owners. They really care about their resort quality and maintenance. They are very loyal to the DVC product.

BRV got gutted, most likely because they sneakily delayed it, refreshing instead VGF & PVB first.

IMO only, the association board members became very concerned on how it was poorly budgeted & coordinated. The finished product was not up to DVC standards. They appear to be now falling on their swords & focused on making this right.

BCV received just a Refresh. It got about everything the BWV received in a Refurb! Crazy. BCV got the new carpets, beds, furniture upholstery change, new curtains, flooring, some appliance switch outs like the new style dual coffee makers, and even getting the murphy bed change.

Who really should take the blame for VGC? I feel it lies on the hotel manager. I don’t know who your’s is, not being an owner here. (At VDH, we have Dan Coleman in charge of the Disneyland Hotel resort. He actually cares about the resort & observes every detail during daily operations. Walks the grounds…greets & welcomes the quests. Similar as the Beach Club with John Stafford).

I am not sure a larger than expected increase in VGC dues equates to "falling on their swords". My guess is the significant increase is to fund this 2nd round of refurb.

Be careful what you wish for - you might get it - and then have to pay for it.

One thing is certain. Like it or not. Your association is being managed poorly and not in sych with the resort management.

Please…. let me pay for it….just do it right!

I think they are the same person on the West Coast. From LinkedIn:

Grand Cal: Nicholas Hockman
Disneyland Hotel: Dan Coleman

It is interesting that Dan Coleman was at Grand Cal until May 2024 and then went over to the Disneyland Hotel & Villas.
