They’ve already noted that bathrooms are getting refurbed late 2026 based on our feedback before Q&A even started!

You beat me to it. Also, electric outlet upgrades are on their radar, but too early for them to make an official announcement yet.

Big news from today’s DVC Condo Association Meeting

DVC confirmed that the Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa will receive a second phase refurbishment starting in late 2026.

Bill Diercksen shared that while the first update aimed to preserve the craftsman style, Member feedback made it clear that some areas especially the bathrooms did not get the attention they needed. The upcoming phase will focus on addressing those concerns, with the full scope still being finalized.

This is a welcome sign that Member voices are being heard and that more meaningful updates are on the way for this fan favorite resort.

They said that the refurb came in under budget without bathroom upgrades, but it was budget related that it wasn't done all at once. So that leftover amount plus some more dues will be used when they do upgrade the bathrooms.

No word yet about the fold down beds under the TVs.

I would imagine that the fold-down single beds is an occupancy issue, no? They may not be allowed to sleep 5 per room.

They already have them in the 1/2 bd villas…. they just weren’t replaced and the hardware is pretty beat up.

I am SO HAPPY to hear they will refurb the bathrooms. My only thought is yes keep the craftsman style but hire competent people to refinish things so they dont get sticky!

If they are bringing in electricians for the outlet upgrades I hope they are going to upgrade the lighting as well.

Yep. I think they thought VGC was somehow desirable enough that we would all just rollover and take what they gave us.

I cant wait to share this with my husband. We were standing on Sunday night looking at Redwood Creek challenge trail, while my son was playing there and I asked my husband who I dont share all my info with that I share here with you all, I asked him "Since we stayed at VGC and VDH back to back which one do you prefer"? I fully expected him to say VGC since we were standing what like 30 feet away from the entrance to the hotel and his knee had been hurting our entire trip and we were about to make that trek back to VDH. He said "it's VDH because I like that the bathroom and stuff isnt run down" I was truly shocked. He knew we had a refurb and the bathrooms were untouched but he doesnt really know a whole lot about the ins and outs of how the refurbs work and the scope of what we were supposed to get.

Anyway this is a huge win for me personally and I am super excited for it. I have always been a groupie for VGC but I was honestly starting to fall out of love a bit.

Glad to hear they are listening to us owners! I’m glad all of us who called and wrote emails were listened to and hopefully my article on dvcfan helped too. I still don’t think it makes sense what they said about the budget, sounds like a CYA to me. But hopefully they keep this in mind for future refurbs.

I was so prepared today for a nothing burger/them to deflect about it or say that it was a cost issue. It is very important that we spoke up otherwise the quality of refurbs would Continue to diminish. Deluxe! Grand! Full Refurb! Dues! . I am very proud of our community for holding their ground and for people like Ryan Chung and DVC Fan doing the hard work. We bought in a few years ago with the expectation of it being returned to an amazing property and were pretty underwhelmed Now I’m excited for refurb 2.0!!! I’m equally elated that DVC Management stepped up.

Add me to the list of people who are thrilled to hear the bathrooms are being redone. I’m not sure why they were skipped in the first round, agree budget seems CYA since they are gonna have to take the rooms out of service again. But regardless, super happy they admitted the mistake, listened to the owners, and are fixing it. Thank you so much to those of you who were able to go rep us!
