I saw the Village and cannot really tell you if I liked it.I was disappointed because with all the hype and secrecy my son told me the ending about a month before . He found it on line. I spent the whole time thinking,"please let the ending be more startling or scary."For those of you who saw it and did not know the ending what did you think? Was it up to par with Signs or Sixth Sense??? I found it slow and really not all that scary but I cannot tell if it was just that I knew what was happening or just that it was actually slow and a little boring>

I felt the same way too and I didn't know the ending ahead of time. I just felt it was a little to sterile and... I dunno it's hard to put a finger on it. I wasn't drawn in to the story like usual and wished I could fast forward through most of it. I'm one that usually enjoys slow moving, powerful stories. I never really felt much suspense or threat.... I was bored and wished I waited till it got to the cheap theaters.

I didn't care for the movie at all. I didn't know the ending before hand. I found the movie boring. One problem was that the twist came out too soon. I think it would have been better not to know the twist before the girl went into the woods.
I think the general idea of the movie was good. It had potental. It could have been really creepy. But this movie missed it's mark.

Well at least I do not feel alone. My son had kept track of that movie since way back in Feb and I was dying to see it. It really missed the mark AND the secrecy did not help, it really created more of a let down. Let's hope M. Night has not lost his knack. He did admit it was a low budget flick on an interview. Also, if they spent more time on the movie and less money on the advertisment and hype it could have been better.

Didn't know the outcome before hand either. Sllllloooooowwwwww is a good word  about middle ways I was thinking "this is a mind control cult" When she jumped the fenced I just busted into laughter :p Then I thought Why oh Why did I sit through it :jester:

Personally, DH and I both hated it - it bothers me to have to use such a strong wrong but I feel cheated, especially after I saw the documentary on Shymalan and the making of this movie prior to its release. We were actually restless, looking at our watches and planning to leave the theatre within an hour (perhaps less) of its start but we were with DH's family so it was not an option.
It was touted to be one of his best and it clearly was not - I don't know about everyone else but I made it a point to tell everyone that I knew how bad it was and the sad thing is that half of those people still went out of curiousity and later told me that they should have listened.
Sixth Sense I believe was a masterpiece with Signs right behind it; Unbreakable didn't do much for me although the concept of the movie was pretty inventive. But this one is in a cateory all its own and when we left the theatre, my PIL, SIL and husband all agreed that it was up there as one of the worse movies ever shown on a screen. Sorry to say but I think Shymalan will have to do everything in his power to coax back his loyal audience .

My DW and I loved this movie. What I hear from people is if they didn't like SIxth or Unbreak or Signs they didn't like Village. I think that Night is a brilliant director and the pacing while slow at points is deliberate. He could direct a Coke commerical and I would stand in line to see it.:bounce: :bounce:

We didn't know the ending either, and we both amost fell asleep during the movie. My sister called it...she said "what if they are some experiment in the woods, and on the other side of the woods is 'normal' civilization. Sure enough. Sixth Sense (had to see it cause Donnie Wahlberg was in it! :p) was the best movie he did...Signs was good too. Unbreakable ok, but this one did not live up to my expectations.

My boyfriend and I really liked this movie even though it didn't live up to our expectations. We both figured it about half out about halfway through, but still thought that it was very imaginative and the scary parts (though few) were pretty scary!! I wish the whole secret had been let out later as the end was kind of like... wait...that's it??

My Dw and my kids 19 22 all loved this movie just wanted to let others know that you need to see it for yourself.

The Village would have been a good made for TV movie, but definetly not worth the $7 admission price! I expected alot more from M. Night Shyamalan.

I did not know the ending ahead of time, except that there was a twist. The movie moved soooo slow! I couldn't believe the ending. I literally thought that can't be it! There must be more to the story. Very dissapointing.

I loved the Sixth Sense, liked Signs, and thought Unbreakable was just alright.

I really didn't like the ending. I was startled to hear myself say outloud "THAT'S IT?" at the ending.
I found the movie too slow. I had the urge to reach for the remote control throughout the movie. I guess that it a natural instict to switch stations when the show is to slow.
A friend told me the theather booed at the end of the movie when she saw it.
One thing you can say for M. Knight's movies is that people talk about them quite a bit.

Do you think if the hype was cut in half that maybe the let down would not be so bad? I think everytime they over hype a movie, that expectations are so high that the let down is even greater. I also think that people's fright levels have risen. After 911, stupid monster flicks just do not make it.

M. Night is one of the most gifted directors, and is so young! Somebody earlier posted that they would wait in line to see his coke commercial if ever made. I totally agree.
I must admit that I had read some things that said "MAYBE" this will be the ending, and of course it was. I was also disappointed. Then I went to see it again (took my sis). SO MUCH BETTER! It was awesome knowing what the truth was, and you are able to pay attention to the characters more, rather than being scared by "those we don't speak of". I highly reccomend seeing it again. And yes, I STILL was scared at parts knowing the truth. LOL.

I told my DH after leaving the theater that if I saw 3 films, I would be able to pick out M Night's with no difficulty. I love his use of cinematography, and making the audience feel tension by not showing everything in the shot and focusing on the characters.

Those are just my opinions ;)
